SACRAMENTAL INFORMATION Sacrament of Reconciliation: Saturday from 8:30am to 9am and 4pm to 4:45pm. Other times by appointment. Sacrament of Baptism: The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated Sundays after the 11am Mass. Parents desiring to sched-ule a Baptism are asked to call the Parish Center to schedule an appointment to speak with a priest. Parents and godpar-ents are expected to participate in a pre-baptismal formation session. Sacrament of Marriage: Couples planning to be married should contact the Church at least 6 months in advance of the planned wedding date. No other arrangements should be made until the couple meets with a parish priest and the date and time are reserved. Attendance at a Marriage Preparation program is required in accord with Archdiocesan policy. Further information will be provided at the time of the meeting with a priest. Annulments: Archbishop Charles Chaput of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, following the directive of Pope Francis, has determined that annulments will now be offered without cost to petitioners. There are additional changes which would make annulments easier to obtain. Contact the Parish Center to speak to a priest for more information on the annulment process.

Dear friends / Estimados amigos, Whenever Christians make the sign of the cross, they are identifying themselves to the world. With the words “In the Name of the Father, of the Son and of His Holy Spirit” we mark over our bodies with God’s logo. At baptisms, the sign of the cross is our identification tag of sorts, reminding us that we are children of God and members of His King-dom. In a like way the crucifixes or crosses we wear on chains around our neck are not jewelry. They are our logos, the outward sign of our faith, telling everyone to whom we belong. In these Sundays after Pentecost, as spring moves into full flowering (if it would ever stop raining!!), we begin a new season of the Church year called Ordinary Time. The season is introduced on its first two Sundays by two feast of dogma: that of the Trinity and of the Holy Eucharist. The Church defines dogma as a doctrine promulgated with the highest authority and solemnity. Since doctrine is all that the Church teaches in regard to faith and morals, dogma is more narrowly defined as that part of doctrine which has been divinely revealed and which the Church has formally de-fined and declared – through its magisterium or teaching arm – to be believed as revealed. Dogma may not be under-stood completely, but because of the way it is taught and the rootedness of the teaching in Divine Revelation, it obliges the Christian people to an adherence of faith. This weekend as a praying assembly we celebrate the dogma of the Trinity and are invited to pass through its mystery so as to be fully and freely immersed in it. Throughout the Church’s history many have tried to explain the dog-mas and explain the mystery of Trinity in a variety of ways. Images like an equilateral triangle, three interwoven circles, a shamrock, and three fish forming a circle have at one time or other been offered as ways to understand the three-in-oneness of God. Still others have taken a more rational approach, expounding in long and complex theological writing to uncover the mystery from a left-brain perspective. At least eight Church Councils1, beginning with the Council of Nicea in 325 AD have contributed significantly to the philosophical and religious underpinnings of the Trinity. Debate and de-fenses of the belief have been discussed excessively. Many of the Fathers of the Faith made significant contributions to the understanding of the inner workings of God in the Trinity. It took four centuries before the word Trinity (ok, the Latin root of the word) would express the meaning of the dogma: “Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are consubstantial, one God-head, one power, one substance, of equal dignity and majesty, but in three perfect hypostases or Persons.” Only a fool would claim the ability to exhaust the mystery of God’s being in words or symbols. Our worthy re-sponse on this Trinity Sunday is to contemplate the mystery of the Trinity. We do not know anything about the subject on our own; God made it possible to know Him as Father/Son/Holy Spirit. As Father, God has brought forth the crea-tion of the Universe and of our very lives; as Son, Jesus came among us in human history to make known a God who hears our cries, knows our struggles, suffers for our sins, and who died that we might live; and as Spirit, God remains with believers, helping us to understand the revelations of Jesus about God. Perhaps today it will not be the wordy expla-nations which move us, but a quiet waiting and watching that will prepare us for welcoming the gift of God’s triune self-revelation and open for us the path to contemplation. We are not used to becoming mystics, but in the face of mystery, it is one of the few responses we can adequately try to make. Start somewhere. + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + One of the hardest parts of parenting is introducing a child to society. Humans were created to be social beings, not isolated and ego-centric. So we made sure that children understood there were consequences to breaking the rules. At the same time, parents encouraged them to be themselves as they sought to develop and form them into good citizens. In the games children play and their interaction with one another, the rules were applied to everyone equally, with no special treatment for some at the expense of others. That was the fair and just thing; to do otherwise, was targeting some-one or some group punitively. At times the nature of the offense against the rules was unimaginably cruel and absolutely prohibited, and punishment was meted out to the offenders. But as far as possible, children were introduced to a system of equal application of laws which governed the common good of society, enabling it to reach its highest level of being. In the next few weeks, the Senate of the Commonwealth of PA will be considering the merits of a House Bill that, as written, targets many unsuspecting persons without subjecting everyone to the same standards of compliance. House Bill 1947 will be reported on extensively, I suspect, in the Philadelphia Inquirer and other information sources. It is a bill that all Pennsylvanians, especially Catholics and people involved with non-governmental entities, need to under-stand. Its implications are serious. The principal elements of the bill relate to the statutes of limitations of criminal and civil laws related to acts of childhood sexual abuse.

Part-time Custodian/Maintenance Worker Needed Mater Dei Catholic School is looking for a part-time custodian/maintenance worker. This is a part-time position (20 hours per week). The nature of this job requires a great deal of diversi-ty of experience. The person performing this job must be in good health and have a good per-sonality to handle all of the challenges and various requests being made. This position is labor intensive and involves physical labor. A lot of lifting, climbing and other movement is required; must be in good physical condition. This person works with another part-time maintenance worker; performs and assists with preventive mainte-nance/routine/normal upkeep of the buildings and grounds, as well as custodial and janitorial work; works with outside contractors, and serves as 1st response person for building alarm & security systems and more. Skills required: familiar with HVAC systems, mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems; good communication skills; reliable, honest and hardworking. Bereavement Ministry The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. (Ps. 34:18) When there is a death in the family, there are often grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and even young daughters and sons who are affected by the loss. Adults may feel overwhelmed by their own grief and feel inad-equate to help these young ones deal with their feelings. On June 9, the Bereavement Group will discuss how caring adults can help children cope with their grief. There will be a morning session at Mary Mother of the Redeemer from 10 am to 11:30 am in the Parish con-ference room and an evening session at St. Stanislaus from 7 pm to 8:30 pm in the Parish Center. Pastor’s Message continued from Page 2 These include:

• The elimination of a prospective statute of limitations for the sexual crimes of various types involving victims under age 18;

• Extending the existing statute of limitations for endangering the welfare of children until the victim reaches age 50 (from the current age of 30 in existing law). In other words, for past offenses, a victim has until he/she reaches age 50 to seek remedies;

• Allowing a “window” for civil claims that are currently time-barred for victims to take legal action; The expansion of the statute of limitations for claims currently time-barred would not be allowed for

public entities which would continue to be protected by something called “sovereign immunity” for claims that arose prior to the date which this House Bill – if it is passed – would be effective.

The bill only prospectively allows for civil litigation against public entities (like School Districts) if the public entity did something “grossly negligent.” This term is obscure and never defined in the bill. It also is a higher standard than for private entities.

• Private organizations can be sued retroactively for unlimited damages, including punitive damages. Public entities are subject to substantially lower caps on damages which the courts can award victims and are not subject to punitive damages.

No one denies the horrific nature of childhood sexual abuse. It has been a source of scandal and shame in our local Church for more than ten years now. Terrible things done in the past have been the impetus in this Archdiocese and nationally for the institution of training to recognize the signs of abuse; of background checking to ensure that no one works with children who has a tainted past; and of attempts to help victims which may or may not have previously gone to the extent that they do now. Changing the rules to target a particular group for past actions and not holding everyone to the same standards of compliance is flawed. House Bill 1947 treats childhood sexual abuse victims from public entities differently than those from private entities. As kids ourselves, is that how we were taught the rules were played? If the State and State legislators are concerned for ALL victims of childhood sexual abuse, then start with a “level playing field,” and not protect governmental institutions where the same atrocities were committed and soft pedaled for decades as well. Why are victims in governmental settings prevented from the same remedies which the bill provides for victims in private entities? There will be more said of this issue in upcoming bulletins. PLEASE do not just read the headlines related to this issue when you see them in the papers or your news sources. I would ask that you make sure you know the provisions of the bill for yourself, even if that means going to other sources to find out. This proposed legislation will have profound impacts on victims and perpetrators. It is not about victims; it is not about fairness. BE WELL AND GOD’S BLESSINGS TO ALL! HAVE A GOOD WEEK EVERYONE,

Reflexión El misterio de la Santísima Trinidad no consiste en números. Es el misterio de un Dios viviente y personal, cuya infinita riqueza se nos escapa, nos desborda por completo. Por eso, el único guía que nos introduce eficazmente en ese misterio y nos lo ilumina es el Espíritu Santo, que “ha sido derramado en nuestros corazones”. Él es quien nos conduce a la verdad plena del conocimiento y trato familiar con Cristo y con el Padre. Él es el que, viniendo en ayuda de nuestra de-bilidad, “intercede por nosotros con gemidos inefables”, pues “nosotros no sabemos orar como conviene”. Dios no nos puede resultar extraño. Por el bautismo estamos famil-iarizados y connaturalizados con el misterio de la Trinidad, pues hemos sido bautizados precisamente “en el nombre del Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo”. Tenemos la capacidad de relacionarnos con las Personas divinas. Más aún, tenemos el impulso y hasta la nece-sidad. Para eso hemos sido creados. Vivimos en Cristo, hemos sido hechos hijos del Padre, somos templo del Espíritu. No, no somos ex-traños ni forasteros, sino “conciudadanos de los santos y miembros de la familia de Dios” (Ef. 2,19). Con este misterio de la Trinidad, entramos en comunión sobre todo por la Eucaristía. En ella nos hacemos una sola cosa con Cristo. En ella Cristo derrama sobre nosotros su Espíritu. En ella nos hacemos más hijos del Padre al recibir al Hijo en la comunión y al acoger al Espíritu que nos hace clamar “Abba, Padre”. En la Eucaristía tocamos el misterio y participamos de él.
