HYMNS OF THE DAY
Apolytikion of St Lazaros - Tone 1
O Christ our God, before Your Passion, You raised Lazarus
from the dead to confirm the common Resurrection for all.
Therefore, we carry the symbols of victory as did the youths,
and we cry out to You, the victor over death, "Hosanna in
the highest. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the
Lord. "
Apolytikion of Palm Sunday - Tone 4
O Christ, Our God, we have been Buried with You through
Baptism, and by Your Resurrection made worthy of Life
immortal. Praising You, we cry out, "Hosanna in the highest,
blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord."
Kontakion of Palm Sunday - Tone 6
In Heaven, He is seated upon a Throne and on earth He rides
upon a colt. O Christ our God, accept the praise of the
Angels and the hymn of the Children who cry out to You,
"Blessed are You who comes to recall Adam".

EPISTLE READING
EPISTLE READER..... MICHAEL KRAIOS
Priest: Let Us Attend…
Reader: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord
…give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His mercy
endures forever.
Priest: Wisdom…
Reader: The Reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the
Philippians 4:4-9
Priest: Let us be Attentive...
Reader: BRETHREN, rejoice in the Lord always; again I will
say, Rejoice. Let all men know your forbearance. The
Lord is at hand. Have no anxiety about anything, but in
everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving
let your requests be made known to God. And the
peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep
your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally,
brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable,
whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely,
whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is
anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What
you have learned and received and heard and seen in
me, do; and the God of peace will be with you.

GOSPEL READING
The Gospel of John 12:1-18
Six days before Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where
Lazaros was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.
There they made Him a supper; Martha served, and
Lazaros was one of those at table with Him. Mary took a
pound of costly ointment of pure nard and anointed the
feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the
house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment. But
Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was to betray
him), said "Why was this ointment not sold for three
hundred denarii and given to the poor?" This he said, not
that he cared for the poor but because he was a thief,
and as he had the money box he used to take what was
put into it. Jesus said, "Let her alone, let her keep it for
the day of my burial. The poor you always have with you,
but you do not always have me." When the great crowd
of the Jews learned that He was there, they came, not
only on account of Jesus but also to see Lazaros, whom
He had raised from the dead. So the chief priests
planned to put Lazaros also to death, because on
account of him many of the Jews were going away and
believing in Jesus. The next day a great crowd who had
come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to
Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and
went out to meet Him, crying, "Hosanna! Blessed is He
who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of
Israel!" And Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it;
as it is written, "Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your
king is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt!" His disciples
did not understand this at first; but when Jesus was
glorified, then they remembered that this had been
written of Him and had been done to Him. The crowd
that had been with Him when He called Lazaros out of
the tomb and raised him from the dead bore witness.
The reason why the crowd went to meet Him was that
they heard He had done this sign.

MINISTRY NEWS
PHILOPTOHOS NEWS Our Mother’s Day Luncheon and Fashion Show will be held on
Saturday, May 11 at the Universal Sheraton Hotel. We will be
honoring the Philoptohos Mother of the Year, Susan Giokaris
Patzakis. Invitations have been mailed. If you do not receive an
invitation, please leave a message at the church office and we will
mail one to you. The work of Philoptohos is often emotionally
difficult but also rewarding. Please join us and support our
outreach efforts.
*Don’t forget today is the last day of our SEE’S candy sale after
church. All proceeds will go to our Kids ‘n Cancer Camps. Be sure
you stop by our table in the coffee hour! The Kids ‘n Cancer
camps are located in California, Arizona and Washington. Please
give these children and their families a little enjoyment.
Do you like to bake or have a little time on your hands? If anyone
would like to bake some koulourakia, or other Greek cookies, we
would like to send a ‘care package’ to our newly ‘adopted
seminarian’ at Holy Cross. His name is Kevin Edgecomb, and he
has taken the name “Nektarios”. We will be his ‘adopted’
Philoptohos chapter until he graduates in 2015.
The mission of Philoptohos is to help the poor, the needy and the
sick. We are joining in a food drive for our ‘neighborhood’ around
the Cathedral door. Bags need to be returned to the Sunday
school director Eleni Yokas no later than Good Friday. Presvytera
Danita has a table at coffee hour if you wish to donate to this
worthy project.
Also, we are almost done collecting undergarments and socks for
the women and children in the safe houses that are run by the
Domestic Violence Agency. As the Earth undergoes a renewal of
life from the dormant, we must give these victims hope that their
lives will be ‘renewed’. No longer is domestic violence confined to
husbands and wives – now it’s our daughters and granddaughters
in high school and college. Please help donate some of these
items when you see them on ‘sale’ or ‘special’ in the stores.
May we all have a beautiful journey through Holy Week as we
attend church and wait for Easter Sunday.
Kali Anastasi.
With love in Christ’s service,
Virginia Noyes and the Philoptohos Board of Directors

Chapel on Holy Thursday. This will be an hour by hour prayer for

Someone once asked Mother Theresa, “When you pray, what do
you say to God?” Her answer startled the interviewer. She said, “I
don’t say anything. I listen.” Fumbling around for some reply, he
finally blurted, “Okay! When you pray, what does God say to
you?” Mother Theresa answered, “He doesn’t say anything. He
listens.”

As we enter this Lent, participating in prayer and fasting, make
it joyful by feasting on showing “Love of neighbor” through
almsgiving. Once again, the AMNOS Ministry will make an effort
to fill a 5 ton truck with your donation of quality clothing to be
distributed to those less fortunate.
The Old Testament Prophet Isaiah suggests this bit of wisdom,
...the fast that I have chosen...is when I see the naked, to cover
him with clothing... Make this Lent even more joyful by
conducting your own clothing drive at school, work or in your
neighborhood.
St. Sophia's 10th annual, 5 TONS OF LOVE clothing drive will take
place over the next seven weeks. (Drop off location
TBD) Please contact Fr. Allan Boyd or Dean & Christina

HUGGING IS HEALTHY It helps the body’s immune system. It keeps you healthier, it
cures depression, it reduces stress, it induces sleep, it’s
invigorating, it’s rejuvenating, it has no unpleasant side effects,
and hugging is nothing less than a miracle drug.
Hugging is all natural: It is organic, naturally sweet, has no
pesticides, no preservatives, no artificial ingredients, and is 100
percent wholesome.
Hugging is practically perfect: There are no movable parts, no
batteries to wear out, no periodic checkups, low-energy
consumption, high-energy yield, inflation-proof, non-fattening,
no monthly payments, no insurance requirements, theft-proof,
nontaxable, nonpolluting and, of course, fully returnable. Kathleen Keating, The Hug Therapy Book

For those who are sick or suffering…
St. James advises us, “If anyone among you is sick, let him call for
the elders of the Church, and let them pray over him, anointing
him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will
save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has
committed sins, he will be forgiven.” (James 5:13-14)
Ensuring that St Sophia’s parishioners continue to be cared-for and
prayed-for, please list names below of those in our midst that need
prayer. Feel free to request the personal prayer of one of our
priests after services, or to schedule this with one our priests during
St Sophia Cathedral’s office hours.
As you request prayer, you may also wish to make an offering to
Saint Sophia’s Altar Fund. Label: “For the health of…”
