Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
Pastoral Reflection “May it be done to me according to your word.” Last week, the Church celebrated a pivotal moment in the story of our salvation, the Annunciation. Its title comes from the announcement that the Arch-angel Gabriel made to the Blessed Virgin Mary, that she was called to be the Mother of God’s Son, the long-promised Messiah and Savior. It is a Marian Feast, because this necessary step in God’s plan for our redemption depended on her fiat, her “yes” to the Angel’s invita-tion. The Church has always taught that Mary had a free will; she an-swered with freedom, choosing to embrace God’s plan despite the many unknowns, challenges, and possible difficulties she would face.
But this Feast is also about the Lord Jesus, who, as St. John says, “became flesh, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.” This Feast celebrates that precise mo-ment, nine months before His birth, in which the Eternal Son of God “emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the like-ness of men.” No other religion dared consider that its object of wor-ship would be anything so radical, but as adherents of the one true Faith, we know that this is exactly what happened: Jesus Christ, the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity, set forth on a mission to save and redeem us, precisely by becoming a man like us in all things but sin.
The Lord’s only motivation for this must be only one thing: His love. As a member of the Blessed Trinity in heaven, there is nothing He could have lacked. But He chose to set out on a mission of love, to empty Himself, in order to free those held captive by sin. During these chal-lenging times, let’s pause to reflect on the Divine Love that lay behind the Lord’s Incarnation, and also on how we can join in the Blessed Vir-gin in saying “yes” to whatever God asks of us. And let’s be sure to use this Lenten Season well. Staying at home for these days can be a blessed opportunity to grow in holiness and dependence on Him, if we choose to make it such.
Please know of the constant prayers of Msgr. Francis, Fr. Hawkins and myself for each and every one of you and for your families!

This week’s Puzzle Piece:
Veiling the Statues On this Sunday, it is customary to veil statues and sacred images; we are en-tering the season of “Passiontide” lead-ing up to the most solemn moment of the liturgical year. It is said that we cover the statues because Our Lord concealed His divinity when He permit-ted Himself to be crucified. It can also signify the fact that much of the mean-ing of the Scriptures was hidden up un-til the Passion and death of Christ. On Holy Saturday, the veils are removed!
You can make a visual reminder of this season, even at home, by covering the sacred images in your house (purple is customary, but you can use any nice material you might have).
Formation updates from this past week…

Upcoming elementary ses-sions will be held online. More information coming soon! SPY Updates We had HS Prayer Group and SPY MS live online last week! We also posted a video update and sent the link through email. If you missed it, the video is posted on our parish’s YouTube channel. Growing in Grace Lenten Journey to Transformation
Prayer for the Week: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! (Matt 21:9)
“Be patient with everyone, but above all with yourself… ...do not be disheartened by your imperfections, but always rise up with fresh courage.” – St. Frances de Sales
Next week we celebrate Palm Sunday, which commemorates the trium-phant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. Growing in Grace will cover the Passion of Christ next Sunday, so this week we are focused on Palm Sunday.
Using your imagination, consider that you are a bystander in the crowd as Jesus enters into Jerusalem. Everyone around you is humbly placing palms on the ground before Him as He rides on the donkey. You stare in disbelief, who is this man? Is it possible? Could this be? The man called the Christ, the King of the Jews?! As He draws near, you kneel to the ground and place your palm leaves on the ground before him. This simple act, kneeling before Our King, is an act of humility. Micah 6:8 says,
“You have been told, O mortal, what is good, and what the L"#$ requires of you: Only to do justice and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God.”
Walk humbly with your God. Walk humbly with Jesus through this final week of Lent, and through His Passion, Death and Resurrection. Take a moment to truly read and reflect on Matthew 21:1-11 as we head into our last week of Lent. If you have attended the Good Life on Monday nights, you will be familiar with prayer using the Lectio Divina format: Reading (Lectio): Read the passage. Read the passage again, slowly. Listen to the words and let a word or phrase rise to the surface. Meditation (Meditatio): Consider what the Lord is saying to you. How does this scripture reflect in your own life? Prayer (Oratio): Dialogue with the Lord, pray and listen to the Lord. Contemplation (Contemplatio): Rest in His word. Allow yourself to dwell in the moment and experience God’s love and mercy for you. Jesus begins the week of His Passion, Death and Resurrection. Each day is a new opportunity to grow in holiness. If you haven’t prepared well during this Lent, make a new decision today to walk humbly with Jesus in a new way. Take small steps to follow Him, to open your heart and pray to Him for guidance on how best to follow Him. Ask Jesus for the grace to cooperate with His grace that you may walk humbly with Him. Take courage and pray!

Help Keep the Light On A Message from Fr. Raymond McDaniel, Pastor
The work of our mission is ongoing, despite the changes and challenges of our times. Although we have no public Masses at this time, we con-tinue to celebrate Mass for your intentions (hopefully, you have been able to watch one of our broadcasts online). Our staff continues to work, but from home, and we are making concerted efforts to stay in touch with you and especially with our seniors and those in most need. We’re adapting our many ministries through calling, emailing, and sending cards; delivering magazines to nursing homes, and continuing to support the growing number of requests for financial assistance in these troubled economic times. We’re also planning our Holy Week lit-urgies as best as we can, aspiring to celebrate the saving mysteries of our Redemption in Christ in a worthy manner, even if by livestream.
In the meantime, now more than ever as we face this health crisis to-gether, I need to ask you for your continued generous financial support. Please help us keep our mission going through these challenges, until we are able to open our doors again and greet you all at Mass. With no public Masses, the collections are significantly down, even though the work goes on. There are a number of ways you can give:
· Donate securely online at stphilipcc.weshareonline.org · Mail a check to 1897 W. Main Street, Lewisville, TX 75067
However you can give, your generosity is very much needed, and very much appreciated.
Entrusting you all to the care of the same God who accomplishes great things even in times of difficulty and to the prayers of the Blessed Vir-gin Mary, St. Joseph, St. Philip, and all the Saints, and in Christ our Savior and Redeemer, Fr. Raymond McDaniel
St. Philip Fall Craft Fair Calling all crafters and artists! Do you have some extra time on your hands now? How about using this unique time to create some of your specialties for the 2020 St. Philip Craft Fair, to be held this Fall!
This year we will expand our craft offerings beyond religious crafts, (but religious crafts are still encouraged). More information will be provided in time, but we wanted to invite you to get started at this time when many of us are in our homes. We will also seek the in-volvement of other ministries as we did in 2019.
Remember, all crafts are donated, and all funds raised are for the Church Building Fund. In 2019 we raised $10,000. Let's see how much better we can do this year! Happy creating!
