SACRIFICIAL GIVING—Sepember 16, 2018……….$ 7,872 Online Giving—September 16, 2018…………………..$ 830 Our weekly goal …………………………………….…..$ 10,500 Parking Lot Collection—Sepember 16, 2018………….$ 3,750 Online Giving—September 16, 2018…………………..$ 870 Thank you for your support. Father Mecca

Please remember St. Peter Parish when preparing your will. A legacy to the church eases your tax bur-den and helps continue the good works of our parish.

The Adult Choir returns to the 10:30 Mass beginning this weekend. We welcome them back and look forward to the many ways in

which the choir enhances our worship at that Mass. With the return of the choir, the 10:30 Mass will resume its char-acter as the “high,” that is, sung Mass with incense. The summer hiatus for the choir members is over, and they have a longer season this coming liturgical year as Easter is later, making the final Sunday, Corpus Christi, towards the end of the month of June. Glen informs me that our choir has a couple of new members for which we are very grateful. But, we are also saying goodbye to two of our cantors and choir section leaders, Andrew Gadwah and Alex Petrie. After several years of faithful service, today marks An-drew’s last Sunday as tenor section leader and cantor. An-drew, who is also a high school music teacher, has decided to focus his energies on his teaching career. The choir will miss Andrew, and all of us as well, but we understand the demands upon a young teacher’s time. Please feel free to come up front after Mass to wish Andrew well. He is the cantor at all the Masses. Alex gave up singing with us dur-ing the summer when he took a job with a church in Fair-field as its youth choir director. Alex teaches music in school as well at St. Aloysius in New Canaan. We are sorry that we do not have an opportunity to say goodbye and thank you to him, but in an email I told him that we wish him and his career well. I want to look backward to last week’s Catechetical Sunday Mass. We had an excellent turnout of families, which is always gratifying to see. I thank all the families who attended and again thank all of our dedicated catechists and aids who are serving to bring knowledge of Jesus to the young and to inspire in them faith. We are praying a sec-ond time for our catechists and children today as they begin class. Today is, in fact, an orientation day, something Bar-bara has introduced as a way to help foster more parental awareness of the curriculum and involvement in their child’s religious formation. The schedule of when classes meet is the first item in the Religious Education column. Last Saturday the priests of the house attended the Mass of Reparation celebrated by Bishop Caggiano at the cathedral. As you can imagine, it was poignant and mov-ing. Our bishop spoke directly and openly about the pain and suffering that the sins and crimes of priests and bishops have inflicted on the survivors, the Church, the Faithful, and the clergy. The Mass of Reparation was an acknowl-edgement and expression of sorrow for past sins and errors. It was a means, also, for seeking renewal and healing of what has been broken. The Bishop has asked each parish to offer a Mass of Reparation before the end of October. Our parish will invoke the help of God to repair what sin has broken on Monday, October 22 at 7 p.m.

I want to draw your attention to our advertisement for the RCIA which has appeared in the bulleting for sever-al weeks. I would ask you to spread the word to family members or friends who have either not completed their

Interested in becoming a Catholic?

Are you a Catholic who has not received all your Sacraments?

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the normative way in which non-Catholics – those un-baptized as well as those baptized into other Christian denominations – enter the Church. It is also the way baptized Catholics who never received any catechesis and didn’t receive Eucharist and Confirmation complete their Sacraments of Initiation. The Inquiry Period begins on September 27 when we will begin weekly Thursday evening sessions for those who want to explore the process. To express interest or to learn more, please call the office (203-743-2707).

Music Notes: A New Mass Setting!

This week we are introducing a new Mass setting at St. Peter Church! It has been some time since a new Mass setting was introduced. After re-viewing several different musical settings of the new translation, Fr. Mecca and I have concluded that one of the stronger settings is Mass of the Angels, composed by Richard Clark. Richard Clark is a composer, conductor, and organist who resides and works in Boston, MA. Mass of the Angels draws heavily on the Gregorian Missa de Angelis, so much of the setting will be me-lodically familiar to us. It is not always easy to adapt Gregorian Chant to the English language. Clark, however, accomplishes this task with great elegance. Of course we will continue to sing the Latin Missa de Angelis from time to time; this new setting, however, is a beautiful composition that successfully blends the old with the new. Throughout the fall, we will be alternating Mass of the Angels with the familiar Heritage Mass.

COMUNIDAD HISPANA SAN PEDRO
