Dear Community, As we come to the conclusion of our third term together we have much to celebrate.

I sincerely thank everyone, students and teachers, for their dedication and hard work.

I thank all parents who have involved themselves in the life of the school. Your support in classrooms, on committees, in the canteen and in any other manner is most appreciated.

Highlights of this term include, but are not limited to:

Wakakirri Senior Girls qualifying for State Final in Rugby League Year 5 Boys won a Regional Rugby League title (a first time for us) 8 students qualified for Regional Athletics 100 days of Prep Year 1: Star Gazing Night Year 2: From the Past Day Year 3 Expo: My Marvellous History Year 4: Excursion to Melb. Museum and Koori Heritage Trust Year 5: Hoddle Waddle (visit to the city) Year 6: Canberra/Sydney Experience and our NAPLAN results, where we are at State Mean for Reading in Year 3 and significantly above the State Mean in Writing in Year 3. Grade 5 and around the State Mean in Reading and above the State Mean in Writing. Our Growth Targets in Maths at both levels is on an upward trend. We must remember though NAPLAN is a very narrow snapshot that must always be read in conjunction with local testing and teacher evaluation. However NAPLAN tells us something about how we are travelling.

Couple these experiences and results with loads of individual achievements and we have much to celebrate.

We offer congratulations to Jordan Rawson (Year 1R teacher) as we celebrate her forthcoming wedding in Bali. We wish Jordan and Sharma a lifetime of blessings and happiness.

I trust everyone has a good time as a family over the holidays and stays safe.

SCHOOL CLOSURE: We are steadily working on our School Wide Positive

Behaviour Framework, which we hope to launch at the beginning of the 2015 School Year. To this end;

TERM FOUR WILL START ON TUESDAY 7 OCTOBER (NOT MONDAY).

On the Monday, we will continue working on this framework with the whole staff. The leading team is meeting over the school holidays with ‘experts’ to continue training and planning to ensure the successful development and implementation of this framework. Our framework aims to support student behaviour, lays out rewards and consequences which are very clear and consistent and set the model of expectations for all members of our community.

If your child has an allergy and you are ordering from the canteen, could you please tick on the Allergy Alert button and then it flags a message to the canteen that your child has an allergy. Also, if your child is away and you have ordered a lunch from the canteen, please call us at the office before 9.00 am to advise and it can be made on another day. If we are not notified and your child’s lunch is made, there will be NO refund given.

Fees & Levies – Final Payment is OVERDUE.

Please pay by this Friday 19th September.

There are a number of Families who have not made a Fee Payment this year. Would you please do so immediately.

Families other than those who have a payment plan in place are reminded that payment of the balance of 2014 Fees & Levies should have been made by 11 September

2014.

GIRLS SOFTBALL REPORT

On 12/9/14, the Girls Softball Team played against MacKeller Primary School. It was a very close game with the final scores being 10 runs for us and 8 runs for them. The pitchers, Jessica Shay and Jennifer Vo Ho, were very good this week and our fielding was exceptional with Jess Hrzic catching a ball and getting one of the opposition players out. Well done team!

On Friday 12th of September, Saint Mary Mackillop Primary School played Kanga 8’s Cricket against Mackellar Primary School at their home ground. We won the toss and decided to field first. This paid off as we scored twelve wickets. The final score was 322 runs for our school and 75 runs for them. This is the highest score that we have achieved this season. Everyone played really well, but there were two stand out players. They were Luke Denny, and Brock Jacobsen.

Parent Association - What’s On This Term

SPORT’S DRESS UP DAY: THIS FRIDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER.

This Friday all students are asked to dress up in their favourite sports gear for a Gold Coin Donation.

We are appealing to any family that has their own business/direct selling party plan. If you are able to donate a product or gift certificate for our annual raffle, your generosity would be greatly appreciated. Our Marvellous History Expo.

Did you know that Croatia invented the necktie? Did you know that Poland’s national symbol is the white-tailed Eagle? These are just some of the many interesting facts Year Three learnt through their Inquiry unit ‘My Marvellous History.’ From interviewing their Parents and Grandparents, children were able to discover how and when their families immigrated to Australia. Children spent Term 3 collecting various artefacts that their grandparents had saved and writing factual reports about their home country. On Friday 12th September, it was time for all the children to present their fantastic work to their Parents, Grandparents and the rest of the school. The hall was abuzz with cultural stories, information and food being shared. All the children did an exceptional job with their Expo and should be extremely proud of all their work. We had our Marvellous History Day at school on Friday 12th September. It took about 1 month to complete all our work. We had to do a country report on the population, traditional food, and environment. We also had to print pictures and label them. The Expo was about sharing our suitcases and reports and telling everyone about where our families had come from. Lots of Parents and Grandparents came to see our Expo. It was interesting to see and learn all about the different foods and items from different countries. By Evan Karlusic 3B

On Friday the Year Threes’ participated in ‘The Marvellous History Expo’. We started off by painting our suitcases. (I painted mine pink!) Then we started the process of filling our suitcases with different items. After that we started our report. We completed our front cover and a few other things. Then we started writing our subheadings and paragraphs. We all wrote about 9 pages. It took a very long time. We finally got it finished and then it was Expo time! By Tiana Bilos, 3B

On Friday 12th September all the Year Three’s had an EXPO! It took us nearly 1 month to complete all of our work for the Expo. All of St Mary Mackillop Primary School came to the Expo as well as our Parents and Grandparents. I learnt that Malta is the 3rd smallest country in the Europe. I found that getting the items for my suitcase was easy, but finidng out some information about my country was a bit more challenging. I thought Friday was a great day and that everyone did a fantastic job. By Miah Attard 3B


Our Marvellous History Expo was all about finding where our families had come from and how they migrated to Australia. I completed my suitcase on my Grandma’s journey to Australia. She came from Italy so I had to find out information about that country. All of the Year Three’s were very excited about sharing all their work at the Expo. I found it a bit challenging to talk to so many people at once on the day of the Expo, but making my suitcase was easier. By Michael Gerace 3B

On Friday it was Year Three’s marvellous history expo. There were lots of suitcases. We were learning about countries. Lots of people came to me. We were at the hall. I saw lots of food. My country was Germany. By Luke Taylor 3R

The day of the Marvellous History Expo had finally come. I was excited and nervous. I was nervous because I was going to present my Marvellous History Expo to children and parents I didn’t know. I worked really hard to plan and organise my Marvellous History Expo. Once I completed my suitcase for my Marvellous History Expo, I started to place articles and photos in it. One article I brought was a guitar called a Bouzouki. I also brought photos of my grandpa in front of some landmarks in Greece. As soon as lunchtime arrived, my class started to head over to the hall to set up. When we got to the hall, classes started to arrive. First were the year fives and then the 1’s, 2’s, 4’s and Preps. Once the second lunch break was over, it was time for the parents to arrive. My food that I brought was called Koulourakia. By the end of the expo, the food that I brought for tasting was all gone.
