RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS Our office is closed for the summer.

We will re-open in August.

From the Pastor's Desk… This weekend we are thanking and honoring our for-mer Religious Education Director, Mrs. Heidi Reale for her long-dedicated service to our parish faith formation program. Code of Canon Law. 776 states, “By virtue of his function, a pastor is bound to take care of the cate-chetical formation of adults, youth, and children, to which purpose he is to use the help of the clerics attached to the parish, of members of institutes of con-secrated life and of societies of apostolic life, taking into account the character of each institute, and of lay members of the Christian faithful, especially of cate-chists. None of these are to refuse to offer their help willingly unless they are legitimately impeded. The pas-tor is to promote and foster the function of parents in the family catechesis mentioned in can. 774, §2." As a pastor I consider the catechetical program as my right arm to serve the parish in the work of evange-lization and faith formation to our children, youngsters and families. Mrs. Reale took over from Mrs. Mary Bi-asotti when she retired in 2012. For 8 long years she directed the program with the assistance of Mrs. Diane McCoach until February this year. I am not sure how many of our parishioners are aware that our parish reli-gious education program is the largest one in the whole of Dutchess County, with nearly 800 children serving 600 families. Every year nearly hundred or above hun-dred children receive First Holy Communion and anoth-er ninety to hundred ninth graders receive the Sacra-ment of Confirmation. Mrs. Reale has special love for children and families. I have been observing her love and care for every child in the class rooms and during the Joyful Noise she holds at Sunday Masses since I came in August. What a blessing Mrs. Reale is to our Parish! She is still part of our Faith Formation team and helps out in all possible ways. I wish and pray for God’s choicest blessings on her. May the Lord bless her with success and happiness in everything she undertakes. This program is so successful only because with Mrs. Reale there are more than 75 dedicated volunteer Cate-chists from our parish who offer their time and talents to teach our children. Children come after spending the whole day in school classrooms. Understanding this fac-tor, our catechists make it fun to learn and impart faith formation. I am truly grateful to all of them. I also wish to express my special gratitude to Mrs. DeBellis for her assistance at the Faith Formation Office on a daily basis and all others who help. Deacon John McCormack has taken over as our new Director of Religious Education Program. Congratulations Deacon McCormack!

Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Church The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) June 23, 2019 “Brothers and sisters: I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said ‘This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” Words so familiar, accompanied by the gestures of looking up, thanking, breaking and giving. Every Eucharist the words of Paul, and of Jesus at the last supper echo in our ears. We might be surprised to know that Paul’s teaching of the Corinthians, predates the last supper accounts in the gos-pels. It was already known, repeated and celebrated. How interesting, we call that a ‘tradition’, a handing over. Paul uses the word twice in a different way. He hands the story to his disciples, and describes the handing over of Jesus for the passion. The great gift of the Eucharist brings us together with the Lord, forming a relationship with Him, making us one with each other and permits us to acknowledge a living Presence among us. At every mass, in every tabernacle, the Lord is present to be praised, adored, and loved with grateful affec-tion. Remember the person who met Philip and said ‘Sir, we would like to see Jesus?’ He is here.

THE MOST HOLY BODY & BLOOD OF CHRIST (CORPUS CHRISTI)

First Reading: Genesis 14:18-20 Melchizedek, a priest of God, prayed that Abram would be blessed by God. He also praised God for delivering Abram's foes into his hands. Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 Paul describes Jesus' actions during the last supper. Jesus broke bread and said it was his body given for us, asking that we do the same in remembrance of him. He then passed the cup and called it his blood. Jesus then asked us to break bread in this manner to remember his death until he returns. Gospel: Luke 9:11b-17 Jesus spoke to a large crowd when his disciples asked that he dismiss the people to give them a chance to find food and lodging. Jesus asked the disciples to give the crowd some-thing to eat, but they had only five loaves of bread and two fish. Jesus then blessed and distributed the food, which fed about 5,000 people. Twelve baskets were then collected from what was left over.
