Religious Education This Sunday during classtime, there is a gathering in the Family Center hall for the parents of those children preparing for First Reconciliation: “Helping your child learn about reconciliation and forgiveness.” Please be sure to attend, we are using a wonderful series from Dynamic Catholic and there are lots of “extras” for you to share with your children at home. Emmanuel Dining Room Friday, October 11 Our next date to deliver our meal for Emmanuel Dining Room is Friday, October 11. Please have your cooked chicken and desserts at the Family Center by 9 A.M. on that day. If you would like to assist in making the stuffing, we meet at the Family Center at 8 A.M. to do that. We can always use more chicken cookers. Peg Janes (302) 656-3635. Calling All Current & Interested Altar Servers Fr. Coffiey will be hosting two training sessions for current and newly interested Altar Servers on Sunday, October 6th at 11:45 a.m. and Wednesday, October 9th at 7 p.m. in the Church. These sessions will last approximately one hour. Altar serving is a special privilege and is open to responsible, astute, and mature young boys and girls who have AT LEAST made their First Holy Communion. It is also recommended that if you are a current Altar Server to attend, so you may brush up on your skills and be an example for the new servers. Lord God, Almighty Father, creator of mankind and author of peace, as we are ever mindful of the cost paid for the liberty we possess, we ask you to bless the members of our armed forces. Give them courage, hope and strength. May they experience your firm support, gentle love and compassionate healing. Be their power and protector, leading them from darkness to light. Amen.
Pastor’s Column A LITTLE FAITH
Today our readings are about faith, frustration, and how much is enough. Habakkuk is a complainer having an argument with God. Timothy is encouraging a community challenged by cowardice and the apostles want more faith than they have. Things aren’t happening fast enough for any of them or for us. All of them and we want God to do something sooner rather than later and we want God to give us a reason to believe that it will all work out. What does God do? God puts it back on them—and us—telling Habakkuk to describe the world he wants; telling the apostles to do more than the expected. Doing more with less is a familiar phrase today and a reminder that a little faith may be enough even for the most difficult times.
World Mission Sunday, Oct. 20th The second collection for World Mission Sunday will be held on October 19th & 20th. This collection will help build churches throughout the Mission in remote areas across the world. Please give generously to the second collection. Father Chris Coffiey, Director of Mission Office for the Diocese of Wilmington will discuss the Extraordinary Missionary Month, on the Oct. 5th edition of Catholic Forum.

It is time once again for the October Mass Count, which is submitted to the Diocese of Wilmington for the four weekends of October. Thank you to the Ushers for taking the numbers and for all those willing to be part of the annual headcount.
The Month of the Holy Rosary is the time when we are reminded of the importance of uniting our prayers with the Mother of God and conforming ourselves to Christ as revealed in the mysteries of His life. Pope

Basket for Babies Let’s fill the bottles and basket for babies during the month of October. Birthright is a non-profit charitable organization that has been providing love and support for over 45 years to women facing unplanned pregnancies. Birthright is supported by devoted volunteers and private donations.

Members of the St. Joseph on the Brandywine Respect Life Committee will be providing transportation to the 40 Days of Life at 8:30 a.m. after the 8 a.m. Mass on the following Saturdays:

Adult Faith Formation Committee After the 10:30am Sunday Mass on October 13th, Father Connolly will briefly lead us through the highlights of the book “Letter to a Suffering Church,” and act as our facilitator to help address the major issues. More details will follow. Just as importantly he will help us focus on what we can do as individuals and a Parish.
Looking Ahead: The St. Joseph on the Brandywine Book Club will discuss The Return of the Prodigal Son: A Story of Homecoming by Henri J. M. Nouwen, a spiritual adventure story in which Nouwen meditates on the parable as depicted by Rembrandt; a powerful drama of forgiveness and its enduring lessons for Christianity. Meet in the parish center after the 12:05 Mass on Monday, November 18.
