Saint John XXIII Catholic School Community Friday, July 31, 2020 Dear St. John XXIII Catholic School Community, We have all experienced the setback this week of seeing a moved in-person start date, but I want to thank all of you that have reached out with your support at this time. We want nothing more than to get the kids back, into the classroom, into their routine, and learning in-person. So many of you shared your positivity with the situation and all of the things you are planning until we return again in a few weeks. Whether it is plans to get school uniforms ready to wear for remote learning, or “learning pods” with small groups of kids getting together to remote learn in groups so parent could work, or even the ideas of older high school and college siblings who are learning from home as well helping out, your resilience is a great source of renewed energy here for all of us. Usually, this would be the week that I would send an email home to everyone highlighting new teachers and staff to our community, but that list is thankfully small, but mighty. Being one of the few schools in the diocese with no teacher turnover, we are excited to have our entire faculty back for the start of the school year. We also welcome two new members of our staff, which you will get to meet in the coming weeks both virtually and in-person. Julie Leader is a licensed Nurse Practitioner with over 40 years of experience in the school, hospital, and clinical settings, who will be joining us as our new school nurse. Julie relocated here a few years back from the northeast where she spent much of her career. We are excited to have her on our staff as we soon reopen during this public health crisis so that our kids and parents have a support at school. We are also excited to welcome a local Catholic school elementary and high school product, Marissa Heinley, to our staff as our new Director of Community Development. While many of our events will look different for the start of the year, Marissa brings a fresh perspective to our community that should help to begin building our sense of community, even remotely!

Friday, July 31, 2020

Dear St. John XXIII Catholic School Community, We have all experienced the setback this week of seeing a moved in-person start date, but I want

to thank all of you that have reached out with your support at this time. We want nothing more

than to get the kids back, into the classroom, into their routine, and learning in-person. So many

of you shared your positivity with the situation and all of the things you are planning until we

return again in a few weeks. Whether it is plans to get school uniforms ready to wear for remote

learning, or “learning pods” with small groups of kids getting together to remote learn in groups

so parent could work, or even the ideas of older high school and college siblings who are

learning from home as well helping out, your resilience is a great source of renewed energy here

for all of us. Usually, this would be the week that I would send an email home to everyone highlighting new

teachers and staff to our community, but that list is thankfully small, but mighty. Being one of

the few schools in the diocese with no teacher turnover, we are excited to have our entire faculty

back for the start of the school year. We also welcome two new members of our staff, which you

will get to meet in the coming weeks both virtually and in-person. Julie Leader is a licensed

Nurse Practitioner with over 40 years of experience in the school, hospital, and clinical settings,

who will be joining us as our new school nurse. Julie relocated here a few years back from the

northeast where she spent much of her career. We are excited to have her on our staff as we

soon reopen during this public health crisis so that our kids and parents have a support at

school. We are also excited to welcome a local Catholic school elementary and high school

product, Marissa Heinley, to our staff as our new Director of Community Development. While

many of our events will look different for the start of the year, Marissa brings a fresh perspective

to our community that should help to begin building our sense of community, even remotely!

Next week we welcome back our teachers on Wednesday, August 5th and they will be reaching

out directly to all of you that day with details for the material pick-up days and for the initial

days of school. As we get updates from the Diocese on our in-person return, I will keep all of

you abreast of the situation and any developments. I know we have stated before but, even after

we re-open to in-person learning, we will continue to offer remote learning options for all

students for the remainder of the year with live streaming classes and work portals to submit

assignments. Stay safe and healthy and we will see you all soon! God Bless, Preston Colao Principal
