Sacrament of Baptism: The Sacrament of Baptism should be celebrated as soon as possible after birth. Therefore parents should contact the parish office prior to the child’s birth. This will allow adequate time for the necessary preparation of the parents and the Godparents.
Sacrament of Reconciliation: On Wednesday from 6:15-7:00 PM or by appointment.
First Reconciliation and First Communion, Sacrament of Confirmation: Please contact the Coordinator of Religious Education (María Morales) for more information.
Sacrament of Marriage: Requires at least nine months of preparation before the Marriage. Contact the Pastor, through the parish office, to start the process.
Pastoral Care: Please contact the parish office if you are aware a parishioner is sick and desires to receive the Eucharist, Anointing of the Sick or a visit from the Pastor.
Parish Registration forms are available through the office.

Did you know?
How do I make good decisions? What does God really
want from me? Does God care about every little choice I make?
The big question behind all of these questions, of course, is this:
What's God's will for my life?
God cares about what's going on in our hearts. In any
decision we have the opportunity to choose. God desires to be
the highest priority in every part of our lives.
God reveals some of His will in the Ten
Commandments. That’s a clear instruction from God.
As you spend time in prayer—talking to God; your relationship
with Him grows. You will then be in the right place to hear
God's instruction for other areas of your life.
God may call us to do things that don't feel natural to
us at first. But as we listen and respond to the call of God, we
get connected to our deeper desires. After all, the things God
calls us to do are things that he created us to do.
Who knew?

recognized. The Lifetime Achievement Award, Sister Cora
Marie Billings Award and Acacia Tree Award will also be

Dr. Martin Luther King gave his ‘Drum Major Instinct’ speech on February 4, 1968. As Dr. King states, a drum major “wants to be there in love and in justice and in truth and in commitment to others, so that we can make of this old world a new world.”

The Gospel at Home. This Week’s Gospel: John 1:29–34. In this Sunday’s Gospel, John the Baptist announces the beginning of Jesus’ ministry. John gives us a picture of who Jesus is and what he has come to do. The lamb, the animal that symbolizes the Jews’ liberation from Egypt, shows that Jesus’ mission is to give his life for us. The Gospels show us that Jesus is filled with the Spirit of God from the beginning of his ministry. This week, your family will learn to recognize the Spirit of God in your family life and in the life of the Church.Pray Together. Try to join in a morning prayer or an evening prayer together each day for a week. The prayer does not have to be formal or structured, and it certainly does not need to be long. During the prayer, invite the Holy Spirit into your family and ask the Holy Spirit to help you be faithful members of the Church. At the end of the prayer, let every family member mark each other on the forehead with the Sign of the Cross.

Liturgical Prayer Gives Us Ideas and Direction for Our Personal Prayer.
There's something for everyone in the liturgy, and we can always find a treasure that can be applied to our own circumstances. The prayers are packed full of words and phrases that can be the starting point for contemplation. The Scripture readings are the premier source for prayer. Sometimes the whole story of a reading will inspire us, and sometimes just a short phrase from one line in a reading will be enough to make us ponder. The same thing can be said for the homilies that we hear.
Sometimes, we might even find inspiration "accidentally." Perhaps you've heard the story about the priest who was approached after Mass by a man who had a big smile on his face. "Father, your homily changed my life!" he exclaimed. The priest was very proud of himself for his great eloquence and wisdom, and, out of curiosity, asked the man which part of the sermon was so moving. The man responded: "It was when you said, 'That's the end of the first part of my homily. Now I'll move on to the second part.' And it occurred to me just then that I need to put the past behind me and move on to live the rest of my life. That changes everything: thanks, Father!"That's how the Holy Spirit works! God speaks to us in strange ways, and when we're listening for his words, we'll often be surprised. He might speak to us in a phrase of a homily, in a request in one of the petitions, or in the lyrics of a hymn. We can take these inspirations from the Sacred Liturgy with us into our personal prayer, and God's words will continue to grow and bear fruit.
Personal prayer and liturgical prayer should go hand-in-hand, building up the spiritual life and providing opportunities for intercession for others. If we who are catechists can come to appreciate this truth more and more, then we can begin to pass this gift on to our students. When we approach the liturgy and our personal prayer with a readiness to hear the voice of Jesus and to praise him in return, we can be sure that great things are happening through prayer!

LA ORACIÓN LITÚRGICA NOS DA IDEAS Y DIRECCIÓN PARA NUESTRA ORACIÓN PERSONAL
Hay algo para todos en la liturgia, y siempre podemos encontrar un tesoro que se puede aplicar a nuestras propias circunstancias. Las oraciones están llenas de palabras y frases que pueden ser el punto de partida para la contemplación. Las lecturas bíblicas son la fuente primordial de la oración. A veces toda la historia de una lectura nos inspirará, y otras veces sólo una frase corta de una línea en una lectura será suficiente para hacernos reflexionar. Lo mismo puede decirse de las homilías que escuchamos.
A veces, incluso podríamos encontrar inspiración "accidentalmente". Tal vez han oído ustedes la historia del párroco que fue abordado después de Misa por un hombre que tenía una gran sonrisa en el rostro. "¡Padre, su homilía ha cambiado mi vida!", exclamó. El párroco estaba muy orgulloso de sí mismo por su gran elocuencia y sabiduría, y, por curiosidad, le preguntó al hombre qué parte del sermón fue tan conmovedor. El hombre respondió: "Fue cuando usted dijo, 'Ese es el final de la primera parte de mi homilía. Ahora pasaré a la segunda parte'. Y en ese momento se me ocurrió que tengo que dejar atrás el pasado y pasar a vivir el resto de mi vida. Eso lo cambia todo. ¡Gracias, padre!"¡Así es como obra el Espíritu Santo! Dios nos habla de maneras extrañas, y cuando estamos atentos a sus palabras, a menudo nos quedamos sorprendidos. Podría hablarnos en una frase de una homilía, en una solicitud en una de las peticiones, o en la letra de un himno. Podemos llevar estas inspiraciones de la sagrada Liturgia a nuestra oración personal, y las palabras de Dios seguirán creciendo y dando frutos.
La oración personal y la oración litúrgica deben ir de la mano, edificando la vida espiritual y proporcionando oportunidades para interceder por otros. Si los que somos catequistas podemos llegar a apreciar esta verdad cada vez más, entonces podemos empezar a transmitir este don a nuestros estudiantes. Cuando nos acercamos a la liturgia y a nuestra oración personal con la disposición a escuchar la voz de Jesús y a rendirle alabanzas en retribución, ¡podemos estar seguros de que grandes cosas están sucediendo a través de la oración!

SUNDAY, JANUARY 15
Today is the 2017 World Day of Migrants and Refugees. Pope Francis asks us to reflect on the theme, “Child Migrants, the Vulnerable and the Voiceless.” In his message, he seeks “to draw attention to the reality of child migrants, especially the ones who are alone.” The Holy Father urges all people of good will, faith communities, governments, and institutions to “take care of the young, who in a threefold way are defenseless: they are children, they are foreigners, and they have no means to protect themselves. I ask everyone to help those who, for various reasons, are forced to live far from their homeland and are separated from their families.” Action: Visit the USCCB Migration and Refugee Services page on unaccompanied migrant children and consider how your faith community might be called to respond.
MONDAY, JANUARY 16
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke prophetically about eliminating injustice for people who live in poverty and who face prejudice and discrimination. He recognized the need to transform the social structures that enable injustice: “We are called to play the good Samaritan on life's roadside; but that will be only an initial act. One day we must come to see that the whole Jericho road must be transformed so that men and women will not be constantly beaten and robbed as they make their journey on life's highway. True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it is not haphazard and superficial. It comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring” (“Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence,” delivered April 4, 1967). Challenge: Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called attention to unjust structures that plagued society such as racism and poverty and was a great voice for social change. WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 18
During this Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, Christians of many denominations pray together for visible Christian unity, seeking to move towards the fulfillment of Jesus' prayer at the Last Supper "that they all may be one" (cf. John 17:21). Also part of our work for unity are ecumenical efforts for justice. Love challenges us to work together—often across faith lines—to combat the injustices that affect members of the Body of Christ. Economic Justice for All, a statement written by the U.S. Catholic Bishops in 1986, states, “No one can claim the name of Christian and be comfortable in the face of hunger, homelessness, insecurity, and injustice found in this country and the world.” Learn more about encountering and working together with our brothers and sisters of other denominations and faiths. Reflection: If I “claim the name of Christian,” what does this mean about my relationship to those who are poor? What does it mean in regards to my relationship with other Christian denominations and the responsibility we all have to work together on poverty and other issues?

Study this USCCB backgrounder on Racism: Confronting the Poison in Our Common Home and during your prayer time, reflect on one or more of the statements and reflections from the U.S. Catholic bishops on racism. Read about what others are doing and consider how your parish, school or community can get involved. Hoy es la Jornada Mundial del Migrante y del Refugiado 2017. El papa Francisco nos pide reflexionar sobre el tema “Emigrantes menores de edad, vulnerables y sin voz”. En su mensaje, desea “llamar la atenci�n sobre la realidad de los emigrantes menores de edad, especialmente los que est�n solos”. El Santo Padre insta a todas las personas de buena voluntad, comunidades de fe, gobiernos e instituciones “a hacerse cargo de los ni�os, que se encuentran desprotegidos por tres motivos: porque son menores, extranjeros e indefensos; por diversas razones, son forzados a vivir lejos de su tierra natal y separados del afecto de su familia”.

El Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. habl� prof�ticamente sobre eliminar la injusticia que sufren las personas que viven en la pobreza y que enfrentan prejuicios y discriminaci�n. Desafío: El Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. llam� la atenci�n sobre las estructuras injustas que plagaban la sociedad, tales como el racismo y la pobreza, y fue una gran voz para el cambio social. �Qu� estructuras injustas deben cambiarse en su comunidad?

Durante esta Semana de Oraci�n por la Unidad de los Cristianos, cristianos de muchas denominaciones oran juntos por la unidad visible de los cristianos, buscando avanzar hacia la realizaci�n de la oraci�n de Jes�s en la �ltima Cena, “para que todos sean uno” (cf. Juan 17:21). Tambi�n forman parte de nuestro trabajo por la unidad los esfuerzos ecum�nicos por la justicia. El amor nos desaf�a a trabajar juntos —a menudo cruzando l�neas religiosas—para combatir las injusticias que afectan a los miembros del Cuerpo de Cristo. Reflexión: Si “me llamo cristiano”, �qu� significa esto sobre mi relaci�n con los pobres? �Qu� significa con respecto a mi relaci�n con otras denominaciones cristianas y la responsabilidad que todos tenemos de trabajar sobre la pobreza y otras cuestiones?
