Jefferies, is responsible for formulatingandcommunicating rulesandpolicies. Following canon law, the pastor of Saint Andrew Parish, Reverend Marco Lopez,overseesallministriesoftheparishincludingtheparishministry.Mayhecontinuetoguideusformanyyears.SAINTANDREWCATHOLICSCHOOLHISTORYSaintAndrewCatholicSchoolisoneof12CatholicelementaryschoolslocatedinUtahandispartoftheDioceseofSaltLakeCityCatholicschoolsystem.Itislocatedinthesouthwestquadrantofthevalley,inthecityofRiverton,Utah,oneoftwoCatholicschoolsonthewestsideofthevalley.SaintAndrewCatholic Schoolopened itsdoors inAugust,2008withgradesPre-Kindergartenthroughfiveandastudentbodyof110.Asstudentswerepromoted,theschoolgrewtoincludegradesPK3througheight.TheschoolisaparochialschoolandaministryofSaintAndrewCatholicParish. The beautiful modern building was the generous gift to the diocese by the ALSamFoundation. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on September 1, 2007, with TheMostReverendBishopJohnC.Westerblessingtheground.ReverendFranciscoPires,foundingPastorofSaintAndrewCatholicParishpresidedwithlocalcivicanddiocesanrepresentativespresenttoturnthesoil.Childrenofthevicinitywillbenefitfromthisdonationformanyyearstocome.SisterKarlaMcKinnie,CSC,wasappointedinAugustof2007,toprepareandopentheschool,asthe founding principal. The Most Reverend Bishop John C. Wester and the parish/schoolcommunityproudlydedicatedthebuildingonSeptember13,2008.

ACCREDITATIONSaintAndrewCatholicSchoolisincompliancewiththeregulationsandpoliciesoftheOfficeofCatholicSchoolsoftheDioceseofSaltLakeCity.ThesearetheregulationsandpoliciesthatarepublishedintheAdministrativeHandbookaswellasthosethatmaybesubsequentlydeterminedbytheSuperintendentofSchools.TheWesternCatholicEducationalAssociationandtheUtahStateDepartmentofEducationalsoaccreditSaintAndrewCatholicSchool.ADMISSIONREQUIREMENTSAt Saint Andrew Catholic School, new students, applying for admission to grades 1-8, mustpresentcurrentreportcardsandstudentsapplyingtogrades4-8,willbetestedforplacementinaddition to presenting previous and current report cards. New students are accepted on aprobationary basis. In individual cases, some studentsmay be accepted only after signing acontract detailing academic and behavioral expectations. If probationary students do notperformatacceptablelevelsbothacademicallyandsocially,theymaybeaskedtowithdraw.SaintAndrewCatholicSchoolpolicyforadmissionisasfollows:

1st-Siblingsofpresentlyenrolledstudents2nd-SaintAndrewCatholicparishmembers3rd-OtherCatholics4th-Non-Catholics

APPOINTMENTSANDMESSAGESWearealwayshappytotalkwithyouaboutyourchildandtoassurethatthereisadequatetimetomeetwithyouandtoensurethesmoothoperationoftheschoolday,weaskthatyoupleasemakeanappointmenttomeetwithus.Appointmentswiththeprincipalmaybemadebyemailingarequest,orcallingtheschoolofficeduringschoolofficehours.Emailingteachersdirectlyisthebestwayset-upappointments.However,sinceclasstimeissovaluable and important, appointmentswith teachersmay only be scheduled before or afterschool.Innowaymayateacherbedisturbedfromhis/herprimarydutiesoncetheschooldaybeginsunlesstheinterruptionisapprovedbytheprincipal.Telephonemessagestostudentsduringschoolhoursarestronglydiscouraged.Onlymessagesofvitalimportancewillberelayedtostudentsduringschoolhourssinceitisimpossibletodelivermessageswithoutdisruptingclasses.Thesecurityofourstudents isvitally important. If, throughurgentnecessity,aparentcomespersonallytoschooltodeliveramessageortobringsomethingtoastudent,theparentmustcometotheschooloffice.Undernocircumstancesistheparenttogodirectlytothestudent’sclassroom.

Studentsarepermittedtousethetelephoneintheofficeonlyincasesofextremeneed,andthenonlywithpermissionfromateacher.ATTENDANCE/ABSENCEResearchandpractical experience showusa connectionbetween learningandachievement.Promptandregularattendanceatschoolisessentialforacademicsuccess.Parentsareurged,tonotkeeptheirchildrenoutofschoolexceptforillnessoremergencies.Medical,dental,andothersuchappointmentsshouldnotbescheduledduringschoolhoursunlessabsolutelynecessary.TheschooldayforPreschool-8thgradeisfrom8:15amto3:30pmMondaythroughThursday.DismissaltimeonFridayisat1:00pmforallstudents.Theschoolcalendarwillindicateanyotherearlydismissaldays.Studentsshouldnotarriveonschoolgroundsbefore7:45amandshouldleavetheschoolgroundsbefore3:30pmoratthetimeofearlydismissal.Studentswhoarrivebefore 7:45 amor have not been picked up by 3:45 pmwill be placed in the ExtendedDayProgram(EDP)andtheappropriatefeesmaybebilledtotheparent.SaintAndrewisaclosedcampus.Onceatschool,studentsarenotpermittedtoleavethecampuswithoutdirectadultsupervisionduringschoolhours.Studentsmaynotshopatlocalconveniencestores before or after schoolwithout parental/guardian supervision. Studentswho leave theschoolgroundswithoutpermissionaresubjecttosuspensionand/orexpulsion.Inordertoprovidecontinuityinyourchild’sschoolday,weurgeyoutoavoidhavingtotakeyourchildoutofclassbeforetheregulardismissaltime.However,shoulditbecomenecessary,pleasesendanotetotheofficeinthemorningstatingboththereasonforandthetimeofthestudent’sdeparture.Ifyourchildistobepickedupbysomeoneotherthantheparentorguardian,thisshould be specified in the note. That person also needs to be listed on the emergencyinformationformthatparentsfillouteachyearaswelltheauthorizedpick-uplistinPowerSchool.Identificationwillalsobechecked.Ineveryinstancestudentsmustbepickedupattheofficeandcheckedoutbythesecretaryordesignee.Achildisconsideredabsentforhalfoftheschooldayifhe/shearrivesafter10:30amorleavesschoolbefore1:30pm.If a child is absent, a parent is required to notify the school office by phone or email([email protected])before9:00am.Ifyouwanttopickupschoolworkforyourchildat4:00pm,pleaselettheofficeknowwhenyoucallthatmorning.Uponthechild’sreturntoschool,awrittennoteshouldbesenttothemainofficeinciatingthereasonfortheabsence.Thenoteshouldbedatedandsignedbyaparent.Astudentisresponsibleformaterialscoveredduringhis/herabsence.Teachersarenotobligedtoadministermake-upteststoastudentunlesshis/herabsencewasduetoanillnessoranothergravereason.Responsibilityrestsuponthestudenttomakearrangementswiththeteacherforthe administration of themake-up test at a time convenient to both and to get anymissedassignments.

AtSaintAndrewCatholicSchool,areportcardmaynotbeissuedifachildisabsentfor10ormoredaysinaquarter.ForastudenttocontinuetoattendSaintAndrewCatholicSchool,theymust:

• Maintainregularattendance(punctualandconsistent)• Reflecteffortandmotivationtoachieveacademicprogresssuitabletohisorhercapacity• Followthebehaviorstandardsoftheschool• Reflectmaturityinsocialbehaviorappropriatetohisorherage

Theparent/guardianmust:

• Besupportiveoftheschool’smissionandphilosophy• Cooperatewithteachersandadministration

TardyPolicyBeingontimetoschoolisimportant.Itallowseachstudenttogetofftoagoodstarteachday,bybeingapartofthecommunitymeetingandensuresthattheydonotmissanyvaluableclassinstruction. It isanimportantlifeskillthatwillbenefityourstudentthroughouttheirlives.Inaddition, entering the classroom after school has begun is disruptive to the entire class andinterfereswiththeteacher’slessons.Achildistardywhenhe/shearrivesafter8:15am.Studentswhoaretardymustgototheofficetoatardyslipbeforegoingtoclass.Studentswillnotbeadmittedintheclassroomwithoutatardyslipformtheoffice.Ifastudentistardyeightormoretimesinanyquarter,thatstudentwillnotreceivemorethananS-incitizenshiponthereportcard.**Weunderstandthatparentshavethegreatestroleinarrivaltimeofourstudents.Tohonorthatrole,parentswillbegivencreditfor.25servicehourswhentheirstudentshavenotardiesinaquarter.**CELLPHONESANDDIGITALDEVICESDigitaldevicesincludebutarenotlimitedtocellphones,smartphones,tabletcomputers,iPads,iPod Touches and similar items. We recognize the utility of these items in the educationalenvironment.Teacherswillindicatewhenstudentsmayusetheminaneducationallyappropriatemanner.Theprincipalordesignate,reservestherighttoinspectanydeviceoncampusforthepurposes forsafetyandorderregardlessof themanner inwhichthedevice isaccessingdataservicesoruse.Theprincipalisfinalarbiteronwhatqualifiesasadigitaldevice.CHANGEOFADDRESS/PHONE/EMAILInorder tomaintain student records current,weaskparents toplease reportany changeofresidence, phone numbers, or email address to the office as soon as it occurs. Changes in

Ourprogramofstudiesreflectsthemission,philosophy,goalsandobjectivesoftheDioceseofSaltLakeCity,inkeepingwiththeprimarygoalofprovidingaquality,accessible,andaffordableCatholic education. Diocesan curriculum provides the framework from which we build ourprogram. Saint Andrew Catholic school students are provided opportunities in the followingareas:Religious/Moral:

• CourseexplorationinthebeliefsandtraditionsoftheCatholicChurch• Participationinprayerandworship• KnowledgeofthepersonandmessageofJesusChristandanunderstandingofHisChurch• Development of moral and spiritual values, ethical standards of conduct and basic

integrity• Personalinteractionthatrespectstherightsofallindividuals,groups,nations,racesand

cultures

Religiousinstructioniscentraltotheprogramofstudies,whichisdesignednotonlytopresentawell-organized exposition of subject matter, but also to bring each student to a personalexperienceofhis/herfaithandadeeperknowledgeofandloveforJesusChrist.Weaccomplishthisthroughdailyprayer,weeklyattendanceatMass,monthlySundayliturgies,prayerservices,opportunitiesfortheSacramentofPenance,andspecialobservancesoftheChurchyear.

ChristianteachingspromotethebuildingofcommunitythroughservicetoGod,theChurch,andneighbors.Thespirituallifeofthestudentsisandmustbeaparamountconcernofourpastor,principal, faculty/staff, and school parents. Since parents are the primary teachers of theirchildren, theeffortsofstudentsandstaff shouldbesupportedathomeby familyprayerandSundayworship.Students in second grade prepare to receive the Sacraments of First Penance and First HolyCommunion.InordertoreceivethesesacramentsastudentmustbeabaptizedCatholicandthebaptismalcertificatemustbeonfile intheschooloffice. Theparentsorguardiansmustalsoattendthepreparationsessions.Students in the eighth grade prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. In order toreceivethissacrament,thestudentmusthavereceivedthesacramentsofBaptism,Penance,andFirstHolyCommunion.Theparentsorguardiansmustalsoattendthepreparationsession.Religionistaughteverydayineverygrade.

Preschool-Pre-Kindergarten:Anemphasisisgiventopreparingstudentstobesuccessfulinourprimarygrades(K-2).Studentsexploreliteracy,numeracy,schoolsocialization,andGod’slove.Wewantstudenttodevelopalifelongloveoflearningaswellasdevelopingthedesiretoserveothers.PrimaryGrades(K-2):AstrongemphasisisgiventodevelopingmasteryoffundamentalskillsinEnglish language, literacy,numeracyandmath,aswellas successasa lifelong learner.Othersubjects(e.g.socialstudies,science,art,music,Spanish,physicaleducation,computer,library)arepresentedinwaysthatcontributetothesocialaspectsofthechild’sgrowthintheearlyyearsof development and education. DISCIPLINEPOLICYAtSaintAndrewCatholicSchool,eachstudentisauniqueindividualwithuniquepersonal,social,and educational needs. Closecommunicationbetweenparentsandteacherswillbenefitthechildaswellastherestoftheclass.Teacherswillguidestudentsinusingproblemsolvingstrategies.Whenappropriate,parentswillbenotifiedas tohowtheycansupport thesolutionsput forthbytheirchildandagreedtobytheteacher.Studentsmaybeplacedonprobationbytheschooladministrationafterasingleseriousactionorafterhavingservedrepeateddetentionsorsuspensions.Theprincipalordesigneemayrequirespecializedprofessionalcareforstudentsasaconditionforcontinuedenrollment.Thisisatthediscretionof theprincipal inaccordancewith localdiocesanpolicy. If,aprobationarystudentcontinues to demonstrate inappropriate behavior, he/she may be asked to withdraw. If astudent’s behavior or attitude is detrimental to his/her welfare or to others, probation,suspension, or expulsion are options. Retention:If,intheschool’sjudgment,astudenthasnotmasteredthenecessaryacademicskills,lackstheemotionalmaturitytoadvancetothenextgradelevelorhasmissedmorethan10schooldaysinaquarterandnotreceivedgradesinoneormorequarters,SaintAndrewCatholicSchoolreservestherightofretention.Theprincipalwillmakethefinaldecisionwhenandifretentionisinthebestinterestofastudent.Theprincipalwillconsultwithteachersandparentsinmakingthedecisiontoretain.Parentsareanintegralpartofthisprocess.Wewillworktogethertodecidethebestcourseofactiontomeettheuniqueneedsofeachstudent.SAFEENVIRONMENT&BACKGROUNDCHECKTheDioceseofSaltLakeCityhasastrictSafeEnvironmentPolicyandasaschooldedicatedtoensuringthesafetyandwell-beingofourstudents,weareboundtofollowit. Everyonewhovolunteers could establish a relationshipwith a student during the year and thereforemustcomplete theSafeEnvironmentprocess. TRANSFERStudentstransferringtoSaintAndrewCatholicSchoolforadmissiontoGrades1-8willneedtoapplyforadmission.A studentwho iswithdrawing from Saint AndrewCatholic Schoolmust return all books andschoolpropertybeforerecordswillbereleased.Allfinancialobligationsmustbemetaswell.Notification is required prior to transfer from Saint AndrewCatholic School so thatwe havesufficienttimetopreparethepaperwork.Studentrecordswillbesentdirectlytothereceivingschoolupon request from that school. Information for transfer canonlybe releasedafterallfinancialobligationstoSaintAndrewCatholicSchoolaremet.TUITIONPOLICYTuition for Saint Andrew Catholic School is handled through the FACT TuitionManagementCompany.Tuitionispaidthrough11automaticwithdrawalsfromacheckingorsavingsaccount(beginning in July and ending inMay). EXPECTATIONSOFPARENTVOLUNTEERSAllvolunteersmustcompletetheDiocesanSafeEnvironmentProgramandbackgroundcheckinordertobeallowedtoworkwithstudents.

1. Pleasedressappropriatelyforworkingwithchildren.2. Volunteersmaynot“discipline”anotherparent’sstudent.

a. Ifasituationoccursbetweentwochildrenwhileathome,pleasetalkwiththeparentorchildwhileathome.Rulesforadultsarequitedifferentwhenonschoolgrounds.

b. Ifasituationbetweentwochildrenoccursatschool–whetheritinvolvesyourchildorotherchildren,pleasenotifytheteacherandlettheschoolofficialstakecareofthediscipline.

3. Ifyoucannotmakethepre-arrangedtime,pleaselettheschoolknowassoonaspossiblesoplanscanbechanged.

4. Pleasedonotjustdropintoofferhelpunlesstheteacherneedsyourhelpandisawarethatyouwillbecomingin.Allvolunteeringshouldbepre-arrangedwiththeteacher.Lessonplansarecommonlywrittenaroundvolunteer’savailability.Teacherswillnothavetimetoputtogetherworkforyoutodowithoutnotice.

5. Parentsshouldnotofferridestostudentsunlesstheyhavepriorarrangementswiththatstudent’sparentsandtheparent/guardianofthechildhasnotifiedtheschool.

6. Cellphonesshouldbeoffwhileinschool.Ifyoumustmakeortakeacall,pleasedosobeforeyouarriveorafteryouleaveschool.Talkingonthephoneisverydistractingtostudents,facultyandstaffthatareworkingandtryingtoconcentrate.

7. ParentVolunteersmustmakeotherarrangementsforsiblingsand/orotherchildrenwhilevolunteeringintheclassroom.Youngerchildrenandoldersiblingsaredistractingtotheeducationalenvironment.
