• Red… Daily Take Home folder- goes home every night, it contains work that needs to be completed and sent back the next day, and any important papers/forms from the office or teacher.

• PLANNER- Parents need to SIGN every day

How will my child keep track of their daily work?• Folders- All folders except red and blue (Math

Games) are used in class for assignments. Please do not clean out, move, or attempt to organize these folders.

• Journals and Spirals- The majority of these are used in class and should only be used by the students to complete their own assignment/homework. One journal is used for Poetry and should be completed by the student.

learners.

The Learning Portrait

As you may or may not know, Coppell ISD is one of 20 districts across the state belonging to the High Performing Schools Consortium. As part of that group, we have been working very closely with the visioning document called The New Vision for Public Schools in Texas.

CISD has developed The Learning Framework where educators empower learners to own their educational journey. They partner with and for their learners as they design experiences, provide feedback, and offer multiple pathways for individual success.

At Pinkerton, our strategic initiative is to achieve our guiding purpose through inquiry-based instruction and international mindedness. We are continuing to research and learn about the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program this year. All of our educators have attended inquiry-training this summer and are eager to continue their journey of transformation with our learners.

IB Mission Statement:The International Baccalaureate (IB) aims to develop

What is International Baccalaureate (IB)?

The IB philosophy focuses on the development of the whole child: academic, social, physical and emotional. It focuses on the Learner Profile, encouraging young people to become inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers, knowledgeable, principled, caring, open-minded, balanced and reflective. Through the inquiry based approach to teaching and learning, the curriculum addresses three inter-related questions:What do we want to learn?How best will we learn?How will we know what we have learned?

How will I know what is going on in my child’s classroom?

Weekly Newsletter–Will be emailed at the beginning of the week– Teacher webpage on Pinkerton website– Paper copy will be sent home only at request

The weekly newsletter will include dates to remember, our week in review, test information, class

supplies needed, websites that correlate with our lessons, and other communications that you need to

be aware of.

What if I want to volunteer in my child’s classroom?

• Please sign in at the office

• Please get a visitors pass from the office

• All volunteers have to fill out a Criminal Background check prior to volunteering (this form can be found on Pinkerton website. This has to be filled out each year, it does not carry over from year to year).

What if my child is absent or tardy?

• Students have one day for every day absent to return their missed work

• Please notify the teacher by 10:00 a.m. if you want work sent home that day. All work may be picked up in the office at the end of the day.

• Your child’s absence is unexcused until a written note is turned in within 5 days of the absence

• Please have your child at school by 7:50!

How will I celebrate my child’s birthday?

• Please email your child's teacher prior to date to plan accordingly

• Treats are eaten after lunch (12:30) outside at the red tables
