From the Pastor & LiturgyFrom the Pastor & Liturgy
FROM THE PASTOR OPENING OUR HEARTS TO THE POOR AND THOSE IN NEED—Advent, the season of joyous hope, gives us an opportunity to be grateful for what we have been given while also reaching out to those who do not have as much. Once again our parish has a Giving Tree to help support people here in the Seattle area and in other parts of the world. Our parish school is once again supporting Treehouse. Treehouse provides youth in foster care in Washington with academic & other essential support they need to graduate from high school & pursue their dreams. Our parish school students buy shoes for these foster youth to help them for Christmas. The students will bring their gifts of shoes to the “Shoe Liturgy” on December 5 as we remember the generosity of St. Nich-olas whose feastday is on December 6. We will also hear from Catholic Community Services next weekend for CCS Sunday. CCS helps thousands of men, women, and children in a variety of ways throughout the year. During Advent we are asked to support their work financially and through prayer. Please be generous in supporting our parish’s efforts during Advent to reach out to others. Let us continue to work together to build up the King-dom of God here at Sacred Heart.
CHRISTMAS CHILDREN’S CHOIR Children 6 years of age and older are welcome to join
the Christmas Children’s Choir for the Christmas Eve
Mass at 4:00 PM. Rehearsals are in the Church from
5:15 – 6:00 PM on: Nov 30th, Dec 7th, Dec 14th, and Dec
21st. There will be reserved seats on Dec 24th in the
Church for family members of Children’s Choir mem-
bers.
For more information or to sign up contact Theresa Gal-
vez at 425-454-9536 or [email protected].
CHRISTMAS MASS SCHEDULE Our Christmas Mass schedule is: Christmas Eve at 4 PM, 7 PM, 10 PM and Christmas Day at 10 AM. All Christmas Masses will be celebrated at Sacred Heart.
ADVENT BEGINS THIS WEEKEND
Sunday, November 27, is the First Sunday of Advent. We will bless the Advent wreath at the Saturday Vigil Mass at 5 PM and light the wreath at all the Masses during Advent. Father Paul Weckert, OSB, a monk at St. Martin’s Abbey in Lacey will be the homilist and presider at all the Masses this weekend. Please save the Advent Season and Christmas at Sacred Heart flyer from last Sunday’s bulletin for referral during the coming weeks; there are extra copies in the narthex, at the side entrance of the church, and in the Parish Office if you need one (it is also posted on the parish website).
FEAST OF ST. ANDREW, APOSTLE “St. Andrew was the first of the Twelve to meet Je-sus. He was one of the two disciples of John the Bap-tist who saw John point out Jesus and say, ’Behold, the Lamb of God’ [John 1:36]. Tradition says that he may have preached in parts of Asia Minor and Greece before being crucified on an X-shaped cross.” (2017 Sourcebook for Sundays, Seasons, and Weekdays, 15)
The feast of St. Andrew is on Wednesday, November 30; he is the patron saint of Scotland and Russia. LITURGY OF THE WORD AND COMMUNION
There will be Liturgy of the Word and Communion
on Monday and Tuesday this week.
FIRST FRIDAY MASSES Since this coming Friday, December 2, is the first Friday of December, we will have Mass at 6:30 AM and 8:45 AM.
LAST 5 PM SUNDAY MASS WAS NOVEMBER 20 Our final 5 PM Sunday Mass was last Sunday, November 20. Thanks to everyone who helped with this Mass since January and to all those who participated.
2017 ST. JOSEPH SUNDAY MISSALS 2017 St. Joseph Sunday Missals are available for purchase
for $3.00 in the narthex or in the Parish Office.
MISSALETTES IN CHURCH There are missalettes in the church for those who need the
printed text of the readings and other Mass prayers in addi-
tion to what is in the worship aid; they are also used during
daily Mass. Please do not remove them from the church.

CATHOLIC COMMUNITY SERVICES

with Home Depot to help Elizabeth, a disabled

day ended with a truly transformed space and
smiles all around.
Each year 12,000 volunteers across Western
Washington roll up their sleeves and join
with CCS to serve their neighbors in need in
a meaningful, impactful way.
A team of CCS Volunteer Service volunteers
from Home Depot came together to revitalize
Elizabeth’s home and pull together in service in
a meaningful impactful way.

community? Do you have a group of friends or

Administration & Stewardship
STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE Now is the time to return your Stewardship of Treasure commitment
card for 2017 for Sacred Heart Parish.
First, reflect upon how God has blessed you with gifts and talents and
financial resources. Then, reflect upon your sense of gratitude for these.
Finally, prayerfully consider your response to God’s generosity and return
your commitment card to Sacred Heart right away.
Return your card through the mail to the parish office (in the envelope
included with Fr. Steve’s letter) or in the offering basket this weekend at Mass
(extra cards are available in the pews). Or you can complete and submit a
commitment card online via the parish website at sacredheart.org.
Your prompt attention to this important matter will save the parish
time and money in following up on your commitment.
Our giving goal is 5% of household income to our parish and an equal
percentage to the many other charities and causes of your choice.
Thank you to all who have returned a card so far and to those who “took a
step“ in their giving percentage goal.
CCS WEEK 2016 AT SACRED HEART Next weekend, December 3-4, we will once again learn about how Cath-
olic Community Services (CCS) and Catholic Housing Services (CHS)
provides care for our poorest and most vulnerable neighbors on behalf of
our local Church. Bill Hallerman, from CCS/CHS, will speak at all
Masses. Your generosity to CCS Week directly supports programs and
services provided in our area. As good stewards of your gifts, 92 cents of every dollar CCS/CHS spends goes directly to
those in need. Please prayerfully consider making a gift during the CCS Week collection. Learn more about their work
or make a donation by visiting their website at www.ccsww.org. Thank you for your generosity and compassion in
bringing light and hope to our neighbors in need.

STEWARDSHIP AND ADVENT
The Advent season is full of irony for the Christian Steward. It is
a time in the Church year to honor and ponder God’s great mys-
tery: the Incarnation and all that it means. Yet somehow, we of-
ten experience Advent as a time of stressful shopping, endless “to
do” lists, strained check books, and guilt over what’s not getting
done. It takes clear values and a conscious choice to protect our
spirits this month from the materialism and even hedonism of the
dominant U.S. culture. Let’s try to remember that the most important gift we
prepare this season is the gift of our hearts offered to the God who wants nothing
else and nothing less this Christmas.
