DEVELOPMENT - SEPTEMBER

Welcome to our December newsletter. We are very

happy to share information about our school via

newsletter, web-page and Facebook. The staff,

parents, scholars, Board Members have set a great

tone for SVCS for the following years to come.

We opened a new building, six classrooms, office

and Multi-purpose room. In four month we have

demonstrated teaching and learning according to

Common Core Content Standards. Students are

celebrated for their success via Scholars Award

assemblies. Parents have established an active,

effective PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) to

improve daily school activities and enhance learning.

Student Council was established in October and

students have leadership roles and responsibilities.

Stay tuned for next semester!

.

Student Council elections were held in October,

2014. Many students competed for the positions of

president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer

and prepared posters and speeches to present

during an assembly.

The flag salute is led daily by the student council on

the playground before class begins. Student

council meets every week with advisors Mr.

Stevenson and Mrs. Sioukas. Student presented

Spelling Bee awards this month, sold candles for

Diwali, participated in the Ribbon Cutting

ceremony, collected can goods, jackets and clothes

for the homeless. We are proud of the Student

Council leaders and their excellent modeling for all

scholars to emulate.

Teachers are scholars too. All teachers continue to

learn after college to help students learn. SVCS

provides time for teachers to learn grade level

materials, how to work with English learners,

students with disabilities and students below grade

level. This year six of our teachers are participating

PTO MOVIE NIGHT!

SVCS has awesome parents. The school site has

been supported by parents over the years who

have always responded to classroom needs of

teachers. Parents continue to support SVCS by

attending field trips, volunteering in classrooms,

attending school events and sending us wonderful

scholars to teach. Our school attendance this

semester reached 95% daily attendance. This is

truly OUTSTANDING! Thank you for getting your

scholar to school. Many students were recognized

for perfect attendance.

In October parents established a Parent Teacher

Organization (PTO). Officers were elected that

included: President, Manjot Singh, Vice President,

Manpreeet Narwal, Secretary Sarah Diwan and

Treasurer, Gurpreet Gidda. We are proud of our

parents serving the SVCS community. The goals

of the PTO include: PE equipment, library books,

music program, technology support and school

recruitment to increase numbers.

The PTO held its first fundraiser on December 10,

2014! MOVIE NIGHT was a big event.

Congratulations PTO for organizing a very

successful evening! It is all due to your hard work,

planning and organization. This is indeed a great

time in the life of our scholars.

SVCS is happy to have Dads involved. Help us

connect more Dads in our school. Listed are few

programs just for Dads’. Visit A Place for Dads,

Sacramento Valley Charter School was

established in 2011 above Langar Hall at 2301

Evergreen Ave. This year our new building

supports six new classrooms, a multi-purpose

room and offices. Our new address is 2399

Sellers Way.

Since 2011 SVCS has grown to a student body of

235 scholars. Our Grand Opening of our new

facility was celebrated by Board of Directors,

teachers, students, parents, community members

and local politicians. Our Board of Directors in

partnership with our staff and community work as a

team to provide a safe learning environment for

our scholars. As principal, I am proud to have the

opportunity to work with a Board that values

education and the community not only in words but

in practice. Board members visit the school and

attend PTO meetings and make sure our essential

support personnel and teachers feel valued.

Board meetings are held every second

Wednesday of each month at 6:00 pm in the

school library. We invite you to join us.
