    Dear Members,

Its interesting how things go in waves. When I look back at last years activities Ithink we were riding the crest of the waveand somehow this year weve slippedinto the trough for a while. Whereas lastyear we had fourteen entries for theCarolyn White Scholarship, close to anall time record, this year with only threeentries we had to cancel the event.Perhaps it is a reflection of the times, themuch flaunted Global Financial Crisis who knows?! I hope next year we canride the crest again and encourage moreof our young players to participate.

In May we enjoyed a very pleasantevening of duets and trios with manystudents and others joining in for whateffectively was an impromptu concert ofa very high standard. Many thanks toall those who performed on the night aswell as Elizabeth Koch for organisingthe event. We are always seeking newideas for our events and welcome anysuggestions from any of you for futureactivities. Our aim as always is toreach out to as broad an audience aspossible.

Perhaps the next important event on thecalendar is the Flute Eisteddfod inAugust. This year we hear there havebeen an excellent number of entries, which is good news for the future of fluteplaying in Adelaide. We wish allcompetitors well in their upcomingperformances.

    From the President

I would now like to take this opportunityto thank Michal Rosiak for his wonderfulcontribution to the Flute Societycommittee, in particular his work in thedesign and layout of this newsletter overthe past couple of years. Finally, I hope you have all registeredfor the Australian Flute Festival, whichis not far away now. If not, there is stilltime, so go online tohttp://www.australianflutefestival.comand read all about it.
