3 Glory to you in the splendor of your temple;on the throne of your majesty, glory to you.

4 Glory to you, seated between the Cherubim;we will praise you and highly exalt you for ever.

5 Glory to you, beholding the depths;in the high vault of heaven, glory to you.

The Collect of the Day BCP 215The Celebrant says to the people: The Lord be with you.People: And also with you Celebrant: Let us pray. Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light of the world: Grant that your people, illumined by your Word and Sacraments, may shine with the radiance of Christ's glory, that he may be known, worshipped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and for ever. Amen.(The people may be seated.)A Reading from 1 Samuel (3:1-10)Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the LORD under Eli. The word of the LORD was rare in those days; visions were not widespread. At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see, was lying down in his room; the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was. Then the LORD called, “Samuel! Samuel!” and he said, “Here I am!” and ran to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” So he went and lay down. The LORD called

4

again, “Samuel!” Samuel got up and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.” Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, and the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him. The LORD called Samuel again, a third time. And he got up and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli perceived that the LORD was calling the boy. Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down; and if he calls you, you shall say, ‘Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. Now the LORD came and stood there, calling as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” Reader The Word of the Lord.People Thanks be to God.(Silence for reflection upon the reading.)Psalm 139:1-5, 12-17 BCP 794

ANTIPHON1 LORD, you have searched me

outand known me; you know my sitting down and my rising up;you discern my thoughts from afar.

2 You trace my journeys

and my resting-places and are acquainted with all my ways.

3 Indeed, there is not a word on my lips, but you, O LORD, know it altogether.

5

(Antiphon: choir and congregation, verses of the Psalm

4 You press upon me behind and before and lay your hand upon me.ANTIPHON

5 Such knowledge is toowonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain to it.

12 For you yourself created myinmost parts; you knit me togetherin my mother's womb.

13 I will thank you because I am marvelously made; your works are wonderful, and I know it well.

14 My body was not hidden from you, while I was being made in secret

and woven in the depths of the earth.ANTIPHON

15 Your eyes beheld my limbs, yet unfinished in the womb;all of them were written in your book;they were fashioned day by day, when as yet there was none of them.

16 How deep I find your thoughts,O God! how great is the sum of them!

17 If I were to count them, they would be more in number than the sand;to count them all, my life span would need to be like yours.ANTIPHON

A Reading from 1 Corinthians (6:12-20) “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are beneficial. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything. “Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food,” and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is meant not for fornication but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And God raised the Lord and will also raise us by his power. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Should I therefore take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that whoever is united to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For it is said, “The two shall be one flesh.” But anyone united to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. Shun fornication! Every

6

sin that a person commits is outside the body; but the fornicator sins against the body itself. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.Reader The Word of the Lord.People Thanks be to God.Hymn to Announce the Gospel Blessed Jesus, at thy word

Hymnal 440The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ According to John (1:43-51)People: Glory to you, Lord Christ.Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him about whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus son of Joseph from Nazareth.” Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, he said of him, “Here is truly an Israelite in whom there is no deceit!” Nathanael asked him, “Where did you get to know me?” Jesus answered, “I saw you under the fig tree before Philip called you.” Nathanael replied, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” Jesus answered, “Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than these.” And he said to him, “Very truly, I tell you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.”Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord.People: Praise to you, Lord Christ. The Sermon The Rev. The Nicene Creed BCP 358

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. The Prayers of the People (Form V) BCP 389In peace, let us offer our prayers, saying, Christ, have mercy. For the Church of God in every place, that it may be a faithful witness to the Gospel, we pray to you...Christ, have mercy. For all who minister in your Church, especially Michael our Presiding Bishop, Rob our Bishop, Dena our Rector, Kay our Deacon, and Richard our Priest Associate, and for St. Thomas, Bath, the Rev. Diane Tomlinson, Rector, we pray to you…Christ, have mercy.

8

For all who believe in you, O Christ, that our divisions may cease, and that all may be one as you and the Father are one, we pray to you…Christ, have mercy. For the peace of the world, that a spirit of respect may grow among nations and peoples, we pray to you…Christ, have mercy. For those in positions of public trust, especially Donald our President and Roy our Governor, that they may serve justice, and promote the dignity and freedom of every person, we pray to you…Christ, have mercy. For the poor, the persecuted, the sick, and all who suffer; for refugees, prisoners, and all who are in danger; that they may be relieved and protected, we pray to you…Christ, have mercy. For all who have commended themselves to our prayers, especially Ed, John, Earl, Karen, Curtis, Bob, Margaret, Jackie, Audrey, Jere, Eleanor, Barbara, Barb, Bob and Pat; for our families, friends, and neighbors; that being freed from anxiety, they may live in joy, peace, and health, we pray to you…Christ, have mercy. For the Ormond Center as we at St. Paul’s dedicate ourselves to the development of relational ministries with our neighbors and the community, we pray to you…Christ, have mercy. For all who have died in the hope of the resurrection and for those whose faith is known to you alone, we pray to you…Christ, have mercy. In the communion of all the saints, let us commend ourselves, and one another, and all our life, to Christ our God… to you, O Christ our God.The celebrant concludesFor yours is the majesty, O Triune God; yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, now and for ever. Amen.Confession of Sin and Absolution BCP 360

9

(The people stand or kneel)Celebrant Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.People Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole hearts; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.Celebrant Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen. The Peace

If you do not wish to receive the wine, indicate by crossing your arms. After you have received the bread and the wine, it is appropriate to say “AMEN.” Gluten free communion bread is available. Cleve Callison and Royster Hedgepeth guide us on a three-week exploration into the Book of Common Prayer – an ever-old, ever-new foundation of our lives as Episcopal followers of God’s Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. If you are a new Episcopalian, you will discover a road map for becoming spiritually stronger. If you are a life-long Episcopalian, you will discover a fresh, new approach to an old friend. If you are somewhere in between, all the better because the Book of Common Prayer should be an intimate friend as we worship and live our lives, individually and collectively, as members of the Body of Christ at St. Paul’s.Today: Setting Out: History. (cont.)The Gentlemen of Noble Poverty Renewal Fund has been established to give each of us a chance to help GNP with their efforts.
