With day to day life there are joys and sorrows, and we are faced with the challenge of not only seeing the face of Jesus in others, but also in presenting the face of Jesus to others. We experience the immense kind- ness of people, and very often this is when we are most in need of help or of support on life's journey, thankfully, we are giv- en opportunities to show kindness to others in their difficulties. St John Chrysostom entreats us to refresh our souls with laughter, and to give glory to God with our joy, while also as we reflect on the commemoration of Our Lady of Sorrows, we acknowledge that all is not always joyful in life, and in our pain and sorrow, we have the company and the shared experience of Our Lady and the Saints. Tis week, I have had the great grace of experiencing the kindness and dedication of the people who make such a difference to the lives of the sick at the Hospital—doctors, nurses, support staff and chaplains—please keep them in your prayers! Our sick are a blessing to us, as they can teach us so much about patient endurance and humility in accepting the help of others, let us pray for them each day. Also, I have met the community of our Parish School, this truly is a community of love, learning and faith, and we are blessed to have them! PRAYER FOR THOSE AFFECTED BY CORONAVIRUS

God our Father, we pray for those who are suffering, for those who are grieving, for those who are anxious, and for those who are working tirelessly to care for the sick. God our Father, your Son Jesus Christ came into our world to heal us of all division and bring us life in abun-dance. By the power of your Spirit help us strive to-gether as one family of many nations to help those in greatest need during this crisis. We ask this in the name of Jesus our Risen Lord, Amen

Intentions of the Holy Father for the Month of September

That we will all make courageous choices for a simple and sustainable lifestyle, rejoicing in our young people who are resolutely committed to this.

The prayer of Spiritual Communion by St Alphonsus

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Holy Sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.

‘But you,’ he asked ‘who do you say I am?’ Peter spoke up and said to him, ‘You are the Christ.’ This week, let us consider our own opinion of who Christ is, and how do we see Christ in others? How do we present the face of Christ to others?

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD THE LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST 24th Sunday

in Ordinary time

Holy, holy, holy Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. C. The mystery of faith. Save us, Saviour of the world, for by your Cross and Res-urrection you have set us free. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread,` and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who tres-pass against us; and lead us not into tempta-tion, but deliver us from evil. P. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mer-cy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mer-cy on us. Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace. C. Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. P. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

Please remain in your place and Holy Commun-ion will be brought to you. Please remove your face covering before receiving Holy Communion, and extend your fully open hands, so the Priest may give you Holy communion without touching your fin-gers. Thank you.

ENTRANCE ANTIPHON

Give peace, O Lord, to those who wait for you, that your prophets be found true. Hear the prayers of your servant, and of your people Israel.

PENITENTIAL ACT I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, (and striking their breast, they say:) through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. The Kyrie eleison (Lord, have mercy) Invocations may follow: C. Lord, have mercy. P. Lord, have mercy. C. Christ have mercy. P. Christ have mercy. C. Lord have mercy. P. Lord have mercy.

THE GLORIA Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. You take away the sins of the world, receive our pray-er; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen

SECOND READING

James 2:14-18 Take the case, my brothers, of someone who has never done a single good act but claims that he has faith. Will that faith save him? If one of the brothers or one of the sisters is in need of clothes and has not enough food to live on, and one of you says to them, ‘I wish you well; keep your-self warm and eat plenty’, without giving them these bare necessities of life, then what good is that? Faith is like that: if good works do not go with it, it is quite dead.

This is the way to talk to people of that kind: ‘You say you have faith and I have good deeds; I will prove to you that I have faith by show-ing you my good deeds – now you prove to me that you have faith without any good deeds to show.’ The Word of the Lord P. Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Alleluia, alleluia! I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, says the Lord; No one can come to the Fa-ther except through me. Alleluia!

GOSPEL

C. The Lord be with you. P. And with your Spirit. C. A reading from the holy Gospel according to N. C. Glory to you, O Lord.

Mark 8:27-35 Jesus and his disciples left for the villages round Caesarea Philippi. On the way he put this question to his disciples, ‘Who do people say I am?’ And they told him. ‘John the Baptist,’ they said ‘others Eli-jah; others again, one of the prophets.’ ‘But you,’ he asked ‘who do you say I am?’ Peter spoke up and said to him, ‘You are the Christ.’ And he gave them strict orders not to tell anyone about him.

And he began to teach them that the Son of Man was des-tined to suffer grievously, to be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and to be put to death, and after three days to rise again; and he said all this quite openly. Then, taking him aside, Peter started to remonstrate with him. But, turning and seeing his

disciples, he rebuked Peter and said to him, ‘Get behind me, Satan! Because the way you think is not God’s way but man’s.’ He called the people and his disciples to him and said, ‘If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross and follow me. For anyone who wants to save his life will lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it.’

C. The Gospel of the Lord. P. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. After the Gospel all sit.

THE HOMILY

NICENO-CONSTANTINOPOLITAN

CREED

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (all bow) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was cruci-fied under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.

Amen

FIRST READING

Isaiah 50:5-9 The Lord has opened my ear. For my part, I made no re-sistance, neither did I turn away. I offered my back to those who struck me, my cheeks to those who tore at my beard; I did not cover my face against insult and spittle. The Lord comes to my help, so that I am untouched by the insults. So, too, I set my face like flint; I know I shall not be shamed. My vindicator is here at hand. Does anyone start proceedings against me? Then let us go to court togeth-er. Who thinks he has a case against me? Let him approach me. The Lord is coming to my help, who will dare to con-demn me? The Word of the Lord

P. Thanks be to God

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

Psalm 114(116):1-6,8-9

I will walk in the presence of the Lord in the land of the living. I love the Lord for he has heard the cry of my appeal; for he turned his ear to me in the day when I called him. I will walk in the presence of the Lord in the land of the living. They surrounded me, the snares of death, with the an-guish of the tomb; they caught me, sorrow and distress. I called on the Lord’s name. O Lord, my God, deliver me! I will walk in the presence of the Lord in the land of the living. How gracious is the Lord, and just; our God has compassion. The Lord protects the simple hearts; I was helpless so he saved me. I will walk in the presence of the Lord in the land of the living. He has kept my soul from death, my eyes from tears and my feet from stumbling. I will walk in the presence of the Lord in the land of the living. I will walk in the presence of the Lord in the land of the living.
