he cowboy statesmanWill Rogers once calledSan Antonio one of the four

unique cities in America. Like theother three—Boston, New Orleansand San Francisco—its individualityis so complete, it exudes a vitalityand excitement all its own.

San Antonio’s appeal has beenshaped by its history and confluenceof cultures. From its beginningwith the establishment of MissionSan Antonio de Valera in 1718 to thefight for Mexican independencefrom Spain in 1821 and Texas’independence from Mexico in1836, it has been a crossroadsof history.

When settlers from the southernU.S. arrived in the 1820s and awave of German immigrantsbegan moving here in the 1840s,their influences added rich layersto the cultural mix, creating a cityblessed with an astonishinglydiverse heritage.

Today, San Antonio offers ablend of Spanish colonial andGerman-influenced architecture, unique interpretations of music andTex-Mex cuisine, winding streetsand public plazas suggesting thecharm of Mexico, and unbelievablenatural beauty. No wonder readersof Condé Nast Traveler rate itamong the top destinations inthe U.S. and the world.

Hyatt Vacation ClubResorts Points Chart

It is never too soon to start planning your vacation. The pointsassociated with your fixed week actually become available one yearprior to your fixed week. And the HVC reservation system is so flexible, that if you cannot make plans that far out, you still have several optionsthat allow you to reserve accommodations right up to the last minute.

How to make reservationsand use your points

Step #1 Many members find thatreserving their unit and week ofpurchase becomes a tradition. So each year they call during theirHome Resort Preference Period(HRPP) to let us know they will bereturning to their home resort on theirweek of purchase.Remember, while theHRPP window lets ushold your fixed weekexclusively for you, HVCdoes not make thereservation for you. Your HRPPalso expires six months prior toyour fixed week.

To make any other type of reservation, you will be converting your fixed weekto points. In doing so, here are a fewthings to consider:

Step #2 When do you want to travel?Consult the reservation calendars atright, which reflect the dates for Friday,Saturday and Sunday arrivals. Be sureto confirm the day and date of arrival foryour selected week, because each yearthe calendar varies by a few days.

Step #3 How many points are inyour account? As you pass througheach reservation window, a statementis mailed explaining the reservationwindow and number of points in youraccount. To determine point values, locate the destination of choice on the“Season Week” chart, look to the weekyou intend to travel, then go to the“Point Values” chart for the unit size. This will tell you how many points areneeded for a reservation. If you travelin off seasons, you can often make

two or more reservations from oneallotment of points.

Options outside HVC Beyond HVCresorts, Interval International is an optionduring your HRPP or your Club UsePeriod. This allows you to use all or any

portion of points towardexchanges at any of 2,000Interval resorts worldwide.Every day, Intervalmembers exchangetravel weeks, which

means availabilities change daily. (Call1-800-GO HYATT for updates.)

Unsure of your travel plans and considering destinations outside HVC?You have the option of utilizing theExtended External Exchange Program(EEEP). Members may commit all orany portion of their FIXED week pointsto the EEEP for the purpose of exchangethrough Interval International to non-HVC Resorts for two years. Points mustbe converted into the program 4 monthsbefore their deeded week commences.Once the points are transferred to theEEEP you cannot bring them back toyour HVC account. The EEEP does notapply to floating points.

The Gold Passport ExchangeProgram (GPEP) is another option avail-able every other year during your HomeResort Preference Period. This requiresthat you move your entire point balanceto the GPEP. You can make as manyreservations or redeem as many GoldPassport Awards as your points will allowat Hyatt Hotels and Resorts worldwide.

For reservations or informationabout reservation windows and bookingprocedures, call 1-800-GO HYATT.

ahoe is so much more thanthe world famous blue lake.Lush green forests surround

the basin, and there are few sightsmore soothing than watching thewind stir the branches, rustling thelong needles of a nearby pine tree.

The gray granite peaks that rimthe valley are like brooding sentinels, keeping the outside world at bay.Summer is a glorious time, with so much to do…boating, biking, hiking, golf, to name a few activities. But when winter comes and the skies fill with whitesnowflakes the size of goose feathers, the basin istransformed into a winter playground.

Hyatt High Sierra Lodge is located in Incline

Village, Nev., where locals are usedto seeing two kinds of stars. The crisp, clean night air makes those aboveseem close enough to touch. And theother sort, the celebrities who visit, area common sight also. Here, they canrelax knowing that everyone is treatedwith the same gracious hospitality. So even if you were Employee of theMonth back home, don’t worry,

you won’t be pestered for your autograph. The lodge is adjacent to Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe

Resort & Casino, so gaming, dining, shopping andrelaxing spa treatments are just steps away. And theNorth Shore of Lake Tahoe offers a great variety ofwinter activities within a short drive.

andy Wagda loves theflexibility of multiple-weekownership at Hyatt

Vacation Clubs so much, thequestion about buying anotherweek isn’t if, but when.

Wagda, of Danville, Calif.,owns three weeks at Hyatt HighSierra Lodge in Incline Village,Nev., and two weeks at HighlandsInn in Carmel, Calif.

“Less than five years ago,we got an invite from High Sierra, fell in love with the place and gotstarted,” says Wagda, who’s sincebeen dubbed “The TimeshareQueen” by her husband. “We likedthe resort so much, we soonbought a second and third week. Then, Highlands Inn opened acouple years of ago ... Once youhave one, it’s hard to stop.”

Exchanges allow owners tostay in the luxurious residential-style condo of their choice, withthe option to convert unused timeinto points that can used toexplore other HVC locationsthroughout North America—

and worldwide through exchangeswith Interval International.

So far, the Wagdas have visitednine Hyatt Vacation Club resorts.

“We convert our weeks anduse the extra time to try otherlocations,” Wagda says. “The pointsystem is terrific. We try to getaround, mix it up and really useall of the resorts.”

Wagda’s entire family flies to aresort of choice for Thanksgiving—so far the holiday festivities havebeen held twice at Hyatt MountainLodge in Beaver Creek, Colo., andin 2004 the family headed for HyattHacienda del Mar in Puerto Rico.

GREAT MEMORIESWagda and her family also

recall plenty of great memories atlocations such as Hyatt CoconutPlantation in Bonita Springs, Fla.She adds that HVC’s Key Westproperties are “terrific for fishing, boating or anything,” and she’seager to see the new Hyatt PiñonPointe in Arizona. “I hear Sedonais beautiful!”

Overall, Wagda believes HyattVacation Club’s greatest featuresare value and flexibility.

“It’s well priced, especially ifyou consider the costs of typicalhotel rooms,” she says. “I usedto dislike timeshares, but they’vecome a long way. With Hyatt, you have options to move around, trade or sell. The longer you own,the more you can use the cluband make the most of your invest-ment. Also, the one-time purchaseprice combats inflation, andmembership is transferable toowners’ children and grandkids.”

Proximity has been anotherfactor in Wagda’s purchases.

“If we didn’t fly, we could easilydrive to either of our resorts,”Wagda says. “Carmel is closer, but Tahoe is less than two hoursaway, so it’s perfect for a getaway. We just split weeks and week-ends. The flexibility is great for athree-day weekend or a four-daymidweek trip.”

With new resorts in Texas andArizona, more people than evercan take advantage of such quickgetaways with their HVC points.

For the Wagdas and theirfamily, another key benefit is thespaciousness of HVC’s large, fullyappointed condo units.

“We need room to stretch out,”

Wagda says. “Hyatt has a lot of room, with the living room, kitchen, one tothree bedrooms, whatever we want. We’ve booked a three-bedroom atBeaver Creek for the whole familyduring Thanksgiving. We ski, go out, cook turkey. It’s fun to get away andtake everyone with us.”

When visiting a resort, the Wagdasoften venture everywhere they can, even if they must rely on their feet.At Hyatt Hacienda del Mar, the familyopted to not book a rental car.

“Instead we explored Puerto Rico indetail hiking and biking,” Wagda says.“There was a lot more than you think—including a beautiful beach for the kids.”

‘STORE THE REST AS POINTS’Wagda family excursions aren’t

exclusive to holidays. While they oftenvary their bookings from one year tothe next, the week after Labor Day isreserved for Lake Tahoe.

“After the tourists leave, it’s niceand quiet. Every year we take out aboat to cruise on the lake. We knowand love our penthouse unit, but weuse only that one week at InclineVillage. We store the rest as points.”

Sandy and her husband, Joe, both work, so they must juggle theirschedules to use all five weeks. Butthey won’t be doing so for long.

“We’re close to retirement age—then we’ll travel more and spendlots of time with our grandchildren,”Wagda says. “These resorts are goodfor young families with small children.I only wish we had started buyingwhen our kids were younger.”

‘Second career’in full bloom in desert

Resort manager Logan takes his expertise west to Hyatt Piñon Pointe.

10 11

etirement is an important life goal formany people. But one Hyatt VacationClub employee found it was simply a

brief stop on the way to a fulfilling career assistingHVC owners—from Key West and Puerto Ricoall the way to Sedona, Ariz.

“I thought that when I retired, my wife and Iwould live on a boat and spend a lot of timewith family,” says Connie Logan, resort managerat Hyatt Piñon Pointe. “Little did I know, I wouldfind a role with HVC that fit me much betterthan retirement.”

After a 29-yearcareer as an executivewith the AmericanAutomobile Association(AAA), Logan movedin 1997 to Key West, where restlessnessprompted him to take aposition at Hyatt BeachHouse. Longtime HVCowners will recall Loganas a helpful presencebehind the front deskat the resort. Soon, histalent for understandingtravelers’ needs wasrecognized as anuntapped resource—and thus beganLogan’s “second career.”

Logan moved first to another Key Westproperty, Hyatt Sunset Harbor, and then toHyatt Hacienda del Mar in Puerto Rico, wherehe served as resort manager. In 2003,he headed west to Hyatt Piñon Pointe in Arizonafor that property’s grand opening. Along theway, he has come to appreciate each HVCresort and its surroundings.

EVERY RESORT IS UNIQUE“All the locations are outstanding,”

Logan says, adding that he still speaks withowners he first met in Key West and PuertoRico. “Hyatt builds beautiful resorts, and eachone is unique, with its own individual specialties.”

As his latest stop with HVC, Hyatt PiñonPointe is quite naturally Logan’s current favorite.

“As a native of the East Coast, moving to the

desert was a drastic change,” Logan says.“Not to mention, my wife and I love the water. But we also knew that Sedona was ranked asone of the most beautiful spots in America. We’ve found that to be true, and we’ve fallenin love with the place, as most everyone does.”

Sedona is a thriving artist colony withgalleries, shops and fine dining. “Everythingis close by, and owners have plenty from whichto choose,” Logan says.

Natural beauty is a top attraction, too.“When you drive

into Sedona, the pictur-esque scenery is aweinspiring,” Logan says.“Suddenly, the redrocks rise straight upand give you chills. The beauty and energyof the desert has thateffect on everybody.”

Beyond reveling inthe red rocks and thearea’s famous sunsets,a variety of activitieskeep visitors busy.

Logan recommendshiking for its scenicviews and wildlife toobserve. Anotheroption is to fly above it

all on one of the popular hot-air balloon tours.“But the Jeep tours driving into the rocks are

a big highlight,” Logan says. “You can learn thehistory of the ancient ruins, visit the highest peakand see the layers formed through the centuries.”

Logan also is proud of being part of theteam that opened Hyatt Piñon Pointe. Currently,75 luxury condominium units are open at the resort, with the final phase due for completion in 2005.

“At Piñon Pointe, we have kids and familyactivities, a pool and spa, and even our ownretail area,” Logan says “Old Town (withSedona’s collection of distinctive shops) is outour back door, and more fun stuff is in the front.”

All of that—plus Logan and his dedicatedstaff—are there for the satisfaction of HVC owners.

“This is their home away from home, andwe’re here to help,” Logan says. “It’s importantfor them to enjoy their vacation.”

hen you speak, we atHyatt Vacation Clublisten. That’s why

we’re currently poring over theresults of a survey of HVC ownersconducted in summer 2004.

The survey, conducted via

email and the Internet, askedowners to rate on a five-point scaletheir satisfaction with HVC in suchclub benefits as the quality andlocation of resorts, affordability, and the ease of using HVC’s pointssystem to make exchanges.

“These days, it’s essential toconduct research via the Internet, because we can compile theresults much more quickly,”says Ed Crovo, vice presidentof operations, Hyatt VacationOwnership, Inc. “That way, we canuse the information to implementchanges and enhancements whilethe data is still highly relevant.”

And because Hyatt VacationClub will continue to conduct emailsurveys of its owners, it’s moreimportant than ever to send your

Because 2004 was a leap year, which added a29th day in February, it will shift calendar dates for2005 club occupancies. Because many ownerspurchase vacations around birthdays andholidays, the shift may change dates they wouldnormally expect to arrive at their home resorts.

For example, if you own Week 7 (PresidentsDay Week) in 2005, you would need to make a

Club Use reservation for Week 8. HVC recommends double-checking all 2005

arrival dates to be sure the calendar and yourreservation are in sync. Also, verify the timing offestivals and events with the visitors bureau orchamber of commerce. For information about 2005arrival dates or changing your reservation, pleasecontact member services at 1-800-GO-HYATT.
