Rules

1.Enrolmentsforselection

Enrolments for the choirs selection for the Liviu Borlan International Choir Festival and

Competition,Romania,mustbe postmarkedbyregisteredmailbefore the30April2014atthe

latest.Enrolmentsandtheotherrequesteddocumentsmaybesentbye-mailtoo.

Thechoralchoirswillhaveto:

1. Payadepositof25Eurostowardstheregistrationfeestothefollowingaccount:RO60WBAN2511022025506553,BancaComercialaINTESASANPAOLOBANK,Romania,Baia

Mare;

2. Sendnot later than the 30April2014 the Repertoire Formand a CD,DVD,Mp3withsomepiecesrecordedbythechoir;

2.Selection

Enrolmentswillberegisteredintheorderofarrival.TheywillbesubjecttoapprovalbytheArtistic

Committee,whose decisionwill be announced to both selected and non-selected choirs, by e-

mailorfax,nolaterthan15May2014.

TheArtisticCommitteewillselectamaximumoftenchoirsfortheCompetition.

3.EnrolmentsfortheCompetition

The selectedchoirswillhave toconfirm theirparticipationbye-mail to [email protected]

byfaxto+40262227723nolaterthanthe25May2014.

The participation confirmation of the selected choirsmust beaccompaniedby the Competition

EnrolmentApplicationFormandbychosenrepertoire(piecen.1hastobechosenamongthose

in the list of the compulsory repertoire dedicated to Liviu Borlan), a short bio (max. 1200

characters,spacesincluded)andahighqualitydigitalpictureof theChoir(theOrganiserreserves

therighttousethatpictureinpromotingandlateradvertisingthefestival).

The selected choirs will have to pay a 75 Euros non-refundable fee by 10 June 2014. The

4.Classes

Liviu Borlan International Choir Festival and Competition is open to allmixed voice amateur

choirs. Ninety per cent ofallmembers ofa choir, except the conductor,mustbeamateurs (i.e.

peoplewhodonotearntheirmainlivelihoodassingers).

5. CompetitionRepertoire

Eachselectedchoirwillpresentfour(4)piecesasfollow:

a) AcompulsorypiecebyLiviuBorlanwhichhastobechosenfromalistofpiecesselectedbytheFestivalCommittee.b) One piece, sacred or secular, by a composer of the Renaissance, Baroque or Classical

period,performedacappella.TheJurywillevaluateespeciallythefidelitytostyle.

c) Onepiece,sacredorsecular,writtenafter1900,performedacappella.d) A folk or traditional song from the choirs native Country. Accompaniment may be

provided by specific traditional instruments if required for authenticity. Recorded

accompanimentisnotallowed.AnEnglishtranslationofthelyricsorasummaryofeach

scoremustbesent.

The total presenting time is 11-17 minutes of pure singing time (that is, the duration of the

performedpiecesexcludingapplauseandgoingontoorleavingthestage).

Choirswillbepenalizedtwopointsfornotrespectingthetimelimitssetoutintheaboverules.

Subsequenttorepertoireentryachoirmaynotchangeitsrepertoirenortheorderinwhichitwill

besung.

6.AssessmentCriteria

Choirswillbejudgedaccordingthefollowingcriteria:

1.INTONATION(weight40%ofthetotal)

2.FIDELITYTOTHESCORE(weight15%ofthetotal)

3.SOUNDQUALITY(weight20%ofthetotal)

4.PROGRAMMECHOICE(weight15%ofthetotal)

5.OVERALLARTISTICIMPRESSION(weight10%ofthetotal)

Thejurymayawardamaximumof100pointsforeachchoir,asfollows:

95,01-100,00:Outstanding

85,01-95,00:Excellent80,01-85,00:VeryGood

75,01-80,00:Good

65,01-75,00:Moderate

Accordingtothemarkachieved,Bronze,SilverandGoldDiplomaswillbeawarded.Ifthechoirdoes

notachieveaDiploma(markunder65,01)itwillreceiveacertificateofparticipation.Eachmember

oftheJurywillwriteareportcontainingreviewsandimpressionsabouttheperformedrepertoireof

thechoirs.Thereports,inEnglishorinRomanianlanguage,willbesenttothechoirsbyemailaftertheendoftheCompetition.

7. Prizes

Theawardedprizesareasfollows:

- LiviuBorlanTrophy:1.000EurosTheLiviuBorlanTrophywillbegivenforthebest

performanceoftheBorlancompulsorypiece

Otherawardswillbegivenbythecompetitionsponsorsandbythemedia.

All participant choir groups will be awarded Diplomas and Certificates of Participation in

accordancewiththeirresults.

8. ThecompetitionJury

The assessment will be made by a jury made up of 7members, nationally and internationally

acknowledgedasfollows:

-threemembersfromthemusicacademiesinBucharest,Cluj-Napocaand Iasi(specialists

inconductingacademicchoirs);

-threeinternationalspecialists;

-onespecialistsfromBaia-Mare(theArtHighSchoolrepresentative)

Awrittenadjudication(withartisticandtechnicalimpression)willbegiventoeverychoirbyeach

memberoftheJury.

The members of the jury will lead shorts workshop regarding various aspects of the choral

conducting,historyofchoralmusic,interpretationofastyleaccordingwiththetimetablethatwillbe

publishedwithinthe15July2014.

9. General- ThedetailedprogrammeoftheLiviuBorlanInternationalChoirFestivalandCompetition,

Romaniawillbepostedonthesite30dayspriortothecompetition;

- ReadtheRegulationscarefullybecausetheycontainallthedetailsconcerningthechoice

oftheprogrammeandassessmentcriteriaaswellastheenrolmentprocedures;

- Allthechoirgroupsmustbefamiliarisedwiththeserules;

- Pleasespecifythenumberofrequiredmusicstands;

- Duringthecompetitioneachchoirgroupwillprofitbysuitablespacesforchanging

orfordepositingpersonaleffectsandwarmup(theroomswillbemadeavailable30min

priortothebeginningofthecompetition);

- Theorderofappearanceinthetwoassessmentserieswillbetheonechosenbythedraw

madebytheArtisticDirectorofthefestival;

- 5choirgroupswilltakepartinoneassessmentserieswhiletheotherfivewillhavereserved

seatsintheconcerthall;

- TheArtisticDirectorofthefestivalreservestherighttoaddoralterthepresentregulations;

- TheJury'sdecisionisfinalandnocorrespondencewillbeenteredintoregardinganyaspect

ofitsdecision;

- In no circumstances will any person (other than authorised officials) be allowed on the

stageorbackstageduringthecompetition;- Itiscontrarytolawtoperformmusicifthescorehasbeenreproducedillegally.Shoulda

choirdosotheFestivalacceptsnoresponsibilityforanyactiontakenbypublishers;

- The Festival Organisers and the Musical Director accept no legal responsibility

whatsoever inrespectofanythingpertainingtoachoirsparticipationintheFestival;

- SubmissionofanentryformandparticipationintheFestivalimpliesacceptanceof

alltheCompetitionRulesandRegulations;

- The participants (through their representative) may be asked to take part in press

conferences,roundtablesandinterviews;

- DuringtheFestival,eachchoirwillgivea30minutesrecitalinBaiaMareaccordingtotheprogrammeandlocationsagreeduponbytheorganiserswithafree-choicerepertoire;

10.BroadcastingandRecordingRights

Itisaconditionofparticipationthatanychoirmustagree:

that any performance it gives during the Festival may be broadcast live and/orrecordedforsubsequentbroadcastonradioand/or televisionwithoutpaymentto

thechoir.AllbroadcastingrightstoanyperformanceattheFestivalshallbelongto

theFestivalwhichwillbefreetodisposeofthemasitseesfit.

that any performance it gives during the Festival may, without payment, berecordedandtheFestivalshallbeentitledtopossessionofanysuchrecordingand

shallfurtherbeentitledtoreproduceanysuchrecordingandtosell,hire,offeror

display for sale or hire, distribute or otherwise dispose of any recording or

reproductionofrecordingofanysuchperformanceinanymannerthatitseesfit.

11. FestivalFees

Theselectedchoirs,soonaftertheacceptanceoftheiradmissionbytheOrganisation,mustpaya

depositof75Euros(non-refundable)towardstheregistrationfeesby10June2014.Choirs which have confirmed participation will be requested to pay by the 10 July 2014, as a

balance, 20.00 Euros for each member of the choir, including the director and the

pianist/musicians. The individual fee of 20 Euros includes 3 nights full board accommodation

(breakfast,lunchanddinner)ina3starshotel.IfaChoirdecidesnottoparticipateaftersendingthebalance,theOrganisationwillkeep30%ofthat

amountpaid. Ifthecancellationby thechoirwillcomeafterthe20August2014theOrganisation

will keep 70% of the amount paid. Cancellation: in the unlikely event of cancellation of the

Competition,feeswillberefundedinfull(depositof100Eurosandbalance).
