why do we exist?

RugbyTel was founded in 2012 by Gareth Hardy, Leigh Hinton, both

ex-professional players, and Steve Dunn, a life long supporter of

the game, after experiencing first hand the issues caused by the

reliance on sponsorship, goodwill funding, and seasonal takings in

rugby at all levels, but especially at its grass roots.

Following the disappearance of a number of high profile clubs due to insolvency,

and the confirmation that this was a national, if not international, issue in the

sport through MBA academic research, RugbyTel was incepted to create ongoing sustainable revenue streams for rugby clubs, in order that

they could grow in a stable financial environment, and develop the players

of the future.

how we do it - rugby people helping rugby people

RugbyTel engages with the clubs, in order to identify

the businesses that are associated to them.

We also count numerous non-rugby affiliated businesses as our

clients. In these cases, any revenue generated using the

RugbyTel model is split between rugby causes, and other

charities supported by the business.

how is funding generated for the club?

By engaging with the businesses, RugbyTel offers a complete

communications package to them. This includes fixed line, internet, and

mobile communications, plus physical phone systems, VoIP, SIP, and a

multitude of specialist additional services.

We analyse the business’ current spend on these services using historic billing, and

aim to match, if not better it, but uniquely we then give 50% of our profit back to the club that they support. As communications is usually a contracted service,

the club can be assured of income each and every month. The business, in return,

bears no additional cost, but gets to support its club in the best way possible on an

ongoing basis!

Andy Gommersall, ex-England international, and world cup winning international

scrum-half said about RugbyTel:

“...If your club needs additional revenue streams, then RugbyTel’s innovative concepts really are something that you need to explore.”
