Amy Turner
Athlete Biography
Originally from Tokoroa in New Zealand, Amy Turner represented both the New Zealand Maori
Sevens and the New Zealand Touch Football team before she moved to Brisbane when she was 20
years-old.
In Australia, Turner has tried her hand in rugby league, union and touch football, - even
representing Queensland in the State of Origin. When she was contracted to join the Australian
Sevens unit part-time, she was juggling her love of rugby with her job driving trucks in the Mount
Isa mines.
As the eldest player in the squad (32), Turner accepted a full-time contract with the Australian
Womens Rugby Sevens squad two years out from the Rio Games. She joins a young team for Rio
where rugby sevens makes its rst Olympic appearance.
The utility made her debut for the Australian side during the World Series in Houston in 2013,
winning her rst World Series tournament later that calendar year in Dubai.
Turner was Australias third highest try scorer throughout the historic 2015/16 World Series. Turner
crossed 12 times as the Australian side won their rst World Series to head into Rio as a genuine
gold medal contender.
