Kick‐off meeting for CPV demonstration project by India’s NTPC
Freiburg, Jan 27th‐28th, 2016
On January 27th and 28th, 2016, the Kick‐Off Meeting of the Indo‐German cooperation action on solar energies research took place in Freiburg at the Fraunhofer ISE headquarters.
This cooperation results from KfW, the German government‐owned development bank, and NTPC the Indian national electric utility, having signed a financing agreement for the establishment of laboratories to undertake research on CSP and CPV. For this purpose, NTPC will get the support from two reputed German Institutions DLR (German National Space Center) and Fraunhofer ISE for undertaking the research work and technology transfer in the areas of CSP and CPV respectively.
Fraunhofer ISE has selected BSQ for the supply of a 50kW plant of HCPV systems, and the technical support for its installation in New Delhi at facilities owned by NTPC. Once completed this demonstration plant will have monitoring instrumentation by Fraunhofer ISE that will carry
out a monitoring campaign to assess jointly with NTPC the performance of this strong potential technology, and pave the ground for larger future deployments in India, a thriving economy powered by a gradually greener energy mix. Construction of this demo project is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.
Delegations of NTPC, Fraunhofer ISE, Suntrace the German technical consultancy firm, and BSQ held a two‐days meeting, to explain the project’s schedule and coordinate the cooperation details between the different parties involved.
Mr. Srivastava, CEO of NTPC, received at Fraunhofer by its deputy director, Dr. Andreas Bett, led the Indian delegation. Dr. Ignacio Luque Heredia, CEO, Goulven Quéméré, COO, and Daniel Gómez, PM, attended the meeting from BSQ’s side.

First RML and MAL implemented at BSQ’s factory
Toledo, Mar 4th 2016

A BSQ Solar Initiative
BSQ Solar has completed the first Module Assembly Line (MAL) to manufacture the new 1000X HCPV modules in our factory sited in Yeles, Toledo. In addition to this, the Receiver Manufacturing Line (RML) has been also completed and starts to serve receivers to the MAL.
The completion of both lines follows the roadmap of REPHLECT’s project and serves us as a local test bench where we can test how a production line is transferred to third parties.
To do so, we are staring a small production in the next months to test and simulate real conditions where we can refine our procedures and prove the exactness of the documentation. The know‐how acquired in this experience will be then applied to our SPC in Morocco.

Collaboration with the Universidad Europea de Madrid
Madrid, April 4th 2016
We are pleased to announce that BSQ has signed a collaboration agreement with the Centro Profesional Europeo de Madrid, an entity of the Universidad Europea de Madrid which belongs to Laureate International Universities, a leading international network of higher education institutions.
The agreement, based on an internship program, will allow students from the referred centre to be recruited and trained within the framework of an international project such as the REPHLECT project, as well as to provide them with a first industrial experience.
As part of this internship program, BSQ welcomes Mario Gonzalez, who is currently studying Business Administration and Finance at the “Centro Profesional Europeo de Madrid”, to its team, as the first Intern to strengthen his academic background with regards to the
operational aspects of the company, by providing him an overview of the real problems before his incorporation in the labor market and by involving him in an international and innovative project.
He will collaborate with a variety of tasks related to the organization of the company and will also support our Management team, being involved in several business development activities related to the REPHLECT project: indeed, he will perform several market analysis by carrying out initial studies of market’s potential, policies and preliminary financial analysis, prior to a further market penetration.
We hope those two months internship will help him to gain useful insight while gaining personal and professional experience in an international and multidisciplinary environment

The European Commission’s booth and its SME Instrument champion companies, raised lots of interest among the visitors, many of them representing investment funds operating in the Middle East.
Visitors were especially attracted to BSQ’s CPV technology samples displayed at the booth, and to the REPHLECT manufacturing model as well as its application and market entry in the Middle East countries.
Among the eminent visitors to the Commission’s booth was His Excellency Abdul Baset Al Janahi, CEO of the Mohammed bin Rashid Establishment for SME Development of the Government of Dubai. H E Abdul Baset Al Janahi, expressed his interest in increasing the relationship with the European Commission and creating tools for co‐investing in EU technology focused SMEs, that are strategically interesting for Dubai. SME Development Dubai will follow up on this objective with EC’s EASME.
Dr. Ignacio Luque‐Heredia attended the event on behalf of BSQ and during his stay took the opportunity to meet his colleague Dr. Pedro Banda, former director of ISFOC (Instituto de SistemasFotovoltaicos de Concentracion based in Puertollano, Spain) and today collaborating with DEWA, Dubai’s national electric utility, on the establishment of an R&D center for renewable energies.

BSQ Solar & REPHLECT sponsor CPV ‐12
Freiburg am Breisgau, April 25th‐27th, 2016
CPV‐12, the international conference that supported by the CPV Consortium, which has become the yearly meeting point for all researchers contributing to the advancement of CPV technology, was held this time in Freiburg am Breisgau. This beautiful German town in Baden‐Württemberg acknowledged as the capital of the Black Forest and the sunniest and warmest in Germany, hosts the headquarters of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy, traditionally very active in CPV research and development that organized the event on this occasion.
The conference was held at the beautiful 16thcentury building of the HistorischesKaufhaus, in the Main Market Square just by the impressive gothic Freiburger Münster. The event counted this year with 250 attendees from 26 countries, mostly researchers but also company executives and businesspersons wanting to know more about the possibilities and potential of CPV.
BSQ Solar was one of the three sponsors of the conference along with the German multi‐ junction cell maker Azur Space, and the Japanese trading company Sumitomo Electric, and displayed a booth where it showed its products and explained its technology and the REPHLECT initiative. The REPHLECT project was accepted by visitors to the BSQ booth as radically new in the present landscape of the photovoltaics market, and with the potential to even challenge, if it successfully chooses its market entry segment, the present day Chinese centered industry.
Dr. Ignacio Luque Heredia provided a presentation on BSQ Solar during the Sponsors Session.

Probably the technical presentations that raised the highest interest were those related to the new high‐efficiency cell architectures (wafer bonded, lattice matched dilute nitride and inverted metamorphic) that hold the promise to break the 50% conversion efficiency barrier in the near term and boost the competitiveness of CPV even at low volumes. At the end of the conference, it was announced that CPV‐13 will be held in May 2017 in Ottawa, Canada. BSQ Solar is looking forward to being there again as an active member of the CPV community.
