This is to help children settle into a new routine and meet their class ready for September. We are still completing some transition activities this year to support children moving to new classes. We would love to have children in school with face-to-face contact with new teachers, however, this is not possible. Children will be sent a letter from their new teachers on Tuesday 7th July between 3 pm and 4 pm via class DoJo. Your child will be expected to write back to tell their new teacher all about themselves. Support for this will be sent out via class DoJo. There will be Zoom meetings be held next week by your child’s new teacher and we expect that all children will want to join these. Details will follow. From Wednesday 15th July , Class DoJo will be updated and children will be put into their new classes with their new teachers. Home learning for the summer will then be sent out before the last day of term. This will be a small selection of activities to help children familiarise themselves with new topics in September. Children in already accessing school can continue to do so and teachers will be checking in with children who are in their classes next year. Children will remain in their current bubbles until the end of the term. Thank you for your ongoing support through this difficult time. 3rd July 2020 Transition

As you will know from previous years we always complete a two-week transition at the end of term where children go to their new classes to meet their new teachers and complete transition activities. This is to help children settle into a new routine and meet their class ready for September. We are still completing some transition activities this year to support children moving to new classes. We would love to have children in school with face-to-face contact with new teachers, however, this is not possible.

● Children will be sent a letter from their new teachers on Tuesday 7th July between 3 pm and 4 pm via class DoJo.

● Your child will be expected to write back to tell their new teacher all about themselves. Support for this will be sent out via class DoJo.

● There will be Zoom meetings be held next week by your child’s new teacher and we expect that all children will want to join these. Details will follow.

● From Wednesday 15th July, Class DoJo will be updated and children will be put into their new classes with their new teachers.

It has been a tough 13 weeks and we have tried our best to serve the community in the best way we can. Everyone is doing a fantastic job with home learning and children in school have settled in extremely well. The transition for Y6 to their secondary schools has already begun and staff from receiving schools have been able to speak with children in school We are also completing a transition book to support with the big change in September. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions and we ask that you support us by telling us immediately if anyone in your household has symptoms of COVID-19.

Free School Meals

We are currently providing hampers to families eligible for Free School Meals through the benefits system. As you

may be aware, the Government had announced that Free School meals will continue to be provided through the

6-weeks holidays. Roughwood will move back to the voucher system for the 6-week holiday period. Families who

are eligible will receive vouchers in instalments every 2 weeks starting the week beginning 20th July.

If you feel your circumstances

have changed and that you may

be eligible for FSM through the

benefits system, you can check

by returning a simple for to

school or apply online. In order

to receive vouchers school must

have a valid email address which

you can access to download

them.

As a reminder, if parents go to this website, they can still apply for FSM under the benefits entitlement scheme.

Our school website also has a form which can be completed and returned to school.

Yr Persuasive Writing

Miss Sare was blown away by the Y5’s pieces of writing. The children decided they wanted to write a persuasive

letter to Mr Whitehouse in the hope that he would choose to entertain us all in this years “Roughwood’s Got

Talent.’ We then used our oracy and persuasion skills to create our closing argument. Well done!

Stunning Art in Year 5

Since being back at school Y5 have been learning about the Solar System. Year 5 created some stunning pastel

artwork using colour mixing and techniques to create different tones.

Orienteering

Children have been using their knowledge of coordinates and map reading skills to complete our orienteering

challenge in school this week.

Foundation Welly Walks

In Foundation today we have started as we mean to go on. Children have been out on welly walks and have been

creating collages for their first day back. It’s wonderful to see more children in school.

Zoom Check-ins

It was absolutely wonderful to speak

to and hear from many of our Year 5

children from class 7 and 8 this while

children were distance learning. The

staff were delighted to hear about

experiences during the school closure

period. We are still conducting Zoom

Calls with classes who are unable to

access school at this moment.

Family Trees

In Year 1 over the last few weeks, we have been learning about our family tree. We have created some

watercolour trees to then add our family members. They will look magnificent when they are complete.
