PRID David Linett Chairman’s Annual Message

As RLI has expanded further around the world, it has been heartening to see how a

Rotary project transcends governmental and political tensions, cultural and religious

differences and everything else that seem to divide peoples of the world. RLI now has

member districts and clubs in Rotary countries that cover every spectrum of world so-

ciety and yet, RLI leaders work together effectively with good will, harmony, friend-

ship and warmth.

At the International Assembly in January, President-Elect John Kenny emphasized the

importance of the club in Rotary and grassroots approaches to Rotary activities. RLI

has become a great example of a grassroots, voluntary, multi-district project designed

and implemented by Rotarians in the field in all parts of the world. Rotary Clubs can-

not succeed very long to further the Object of Rotary without excellent leadership and

RLI seeks to help in the effort to prepare potential leaders of our clubs. Today, RLI

has 192 member districts that cover 94 countries and territories and is continually

growing. Many thousands of Rotarians have taken RLI courses and thousands of past

governors and past club presidents have been able to keep active by working with RLI

divisions. As the saying goes, teachers learn more than their students. Most RLI fac-

ulty members also participate in Rotary as facilitators for other RI training events,

project leaders, Foundation activists, etc.

We are grateful for the chairs and other leaders of our 45 RLI divisions, the faculty

members who motivate the potential club leaders and the international officers and

trainers who travel to countries in all parts of the world to work with local RLI leaders

and forge warm relationships. We are grateful to the nine past R.I. presidents and 61

current, past and incoming RI directors who support RLI through membership on our

International Senior Leaders Advisory Board.

We look forward to constantly working to improve the RLI program and to help

strengthen Rotary Clubs through a quality leadership development program.

Respectfully submitted,

David Linett, International Chair
