Through a national Schools’ Competition to design Save Water stickers, the Club aims to raise the level of awareness amongst the population about the limited supply of water and why it should be used judiciously. Our per capita consumption is currently running far ahead of the UK and France. report on distribution ceremonies taking place in September.

A British citizen of Punjabi origin. Mr Fauja Singh, whose passport states he was born on 1 April 1911, is famed as a marathon runner, a sport he took up in 1989. He is a Paul Harris Fellow, awarded by the Rotary Club of Gants Hill, and the oldest member of Sikhs in the City, a London group promoting racial harmony through sport. Whilst here, President Uday called on him at his hotel. He (Mr Singh not President Uday) ran 10 kilometers in the Mauritius Marathon, raising funds for SOS Children's Village and Link to Life (a society providing support and counseling to cancer patients and their families). Anyone in the Club waking up with the odd twinge in the morning might take heart from this 101-year-old!

Inducting Divij

Divij Chuttoorgoon was inducted as this year’s Rotaract President on 7 July at Le Clos St Louis, in the presence of President Uday and other Rotarians, and special guest, Shirin Aumeeruddy-Cziffra. Rekha (Preety) Callichurn is the Secretary.

Moments of sharing

Rotaractors decided to share some food with residents of the Mauritian Muslim Orphanage, during Iftar (breaking of the fast) one evening during Ramadhan.

Health for All

Moved by the concern that all children should be able to enjoy good health, our Rotaractors decided to organize a health-screening day in August for 110 children aged between 3 and 15, in association with the Pailles Civic Action Team, with the support of volunteer doctors, nurses and dentists, as well as a psychologist and students from the BSSR Medical School. President Uday Gujadhur dropped in on the event, as did Rtn Raj Dassaye and PP Ujjval Desai and wife Simla. Three Rotarians also supported the event with donations.
