This course is brought to you through a collaboration with City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga Community College *textbook costs $50 Roots of Success is an empowering environmental literacy and job readiness curriculum that connects adults from communities with high rates of poverty and unemployment to become college and career ready. The curriculum strengthens core academic skills, increases knowledge about environmental problems and solutions, inspires behavioral change, and prepares people for environmental careers in multiple sectors of the economy. By doing this, Roots of Success addresses two of the most pressing issues of our time – the workforce demands of a 21 st century economy and providing relevant education and preparedness. Roots of Success is an innovative, multimedia curriculum that integrates classroom discussion with videos, visuals, group work, oral presentations, academic exercises, and activities that stimulate student engagement and retention. The focus is on student success, making learning relevant, building on student’s prior experience, and connecting education to employment. The curriculum works because it is engaging, adaptable, affordable, easy to teach, and works well for students with different learning styles. Roots of Success can be offered at the community college towards continuing education credits and complements other stackable certificates. It consists of 10 modules: Fundamentals of Environmental Literacy Water Waste Transportation Energy Building Food, Health, & Agriculture Civic Engagement & Leadership Application & Practice Financial Literacy & Social Entrepreneurship Training and Professional Development for Instructors: Focus on Student Success and Academic Achievement: Train-the-Instructor Training: Instructors go through one-day training, are provided with materials and resources to teach the course, and receive ongoing technical support. Student Resources: Textbook Includes glossary of terms, handouts, exercises, activities, quizzes, notes section, and resource materials for students.
