It was a beautiful Mass where Father ST, Father Brian Sullivan, Father Peter Filipkowski, Father Daniel Murphy, Father Thomas Fallone, Deacon Thomas Zayac, Deacon Alfred Kucinksi, Deacon Gerald Hanifan, our Trustees and many of our parish family and friends were present. What a wonderful sign of our faith and familial support for one of our own. Thank you for your prayers and presence!

The “truth” about Islam continued...
One very important way to know the character of a man is how they treat their wives and other women. According to the Quran:
“Men are the protectors and maintainers of wom-en, because Allah has given the one more than the other, and because they support them from their means. Therefore, the righteous women are de-voutly obedient, and guard in [the husband's] ab-sence what Allah would have them guard. As to those women on whose part you fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them [first], [next], refuse to share their beds, [and last] beat them” (sura 4:34).
Yes, “beat them” is what the “holy book” of the Islamic faith dictates. Need I say any more? Muhammad’s said that he was a “great man” and alt-hough he believed in wife beating it was only “as a last resort” (how comforting). More interesting is the list of his wives and their ages: Year Age Wife’s name 595 40 Khadija (supposedly Christian) 620 30 Sawda 623 9 Aishah 625 18 Hafsah 626 29 Um Salarna 626 30 Zaynab 627 20 Juweiriyeh 627 38 Zaynab bint Jahsh 627 (?) Rayhana (Jewish) 628 (?) Maryam (Christian) 628 35 Urn Habeeba 628 17 Sufia 629 27 Mairnoona" The most blearing fact about Muhammad’s wives is found in Aishah, who was nine (9) years old, yes, nine (9) years old! How does a “Prophet” of God ever find it proper, acceptable or even imaginable to have a wife that is only a child? Another interesting note is that while Muhammad was married to Khadija (who was supposedly a Christian woman) he never had any other concubines or other wives for twenty-five years. It seemed that this was the only woman (who was older than he) who had some control over her husband. In total, Muhammad married eleven women and took two others as concubines. Although this “Prophet” had marital ethics that were greater than those of his time, they can hardly be set next to what we consid-er today’s proper marital ethics. Even though polygamy is mentioned in the Jewish Scriptures, it is never promot-ed like the Quran which specifically states that a man “May take more than one wife.”
According to Unveiling Islam, the Caner brothers ask the question:
"What view did Muhammad have of his wives? He once expressed the thought, "Be kind to wom-en sprung from your rib. If you try to straighten out a rib, you will break it. Accept women as they are, with all their curvatures." Muhammad en-joyed spending time with his wives: "I love little children and women and sweet scent." But, he explained, "None of these can give me the happi-ness I find in prayer." This explains why Muham-mad spent many nights standing in prayer with swollen feet instead of in bed with one of his nu-merous wives. maintained a simple lifestyle, even after he was successful financially. He built mud brick apartments for his wives and once told Aishah that she should not discard any clothes that could be patched. After a jealous dispute among the wives, Muhammad abandoned them for one month in order to meditate. He pondered whether he should divorce any or all of them be-cause of their attitudes. From his lonesome jour-ney, he brought back a revelation from Allah: Prophet, say to thy wives: if you desire the life of this world and its vanities, come-I will provide for you generously, and send you out into the world splendidly arrayed. But if you desire God and the Prophet and Paradise, then conduct your-selves as you should. For those who do, God has prepared a mighty reward."
The more I read and learn about Muhammad and Islam, the more I am left with the burning question, “Is this truly a ‘religion’ and how can one ever hope to be a better person by following the example of such a leader of this ‘faith?’” I think that is a serious problem for us Americans who feel because of the “Lady in the harbor” who allows all to come to America freely and without question as to race, creed or way of life, that “Islam” should be treated like any other religion. I personally believe that is a fatal mistake. As we will see from reading the Quran itself, from the history of its founder and those who followed that this “religion” is always uniquely and completely entwined with a political agenda. I am sure that some of you reading this find it to be offensive and that is the problem with our “all are equal” mentality. Unfortunately, we lose sight of the real “truth of Islam” and I hope that as I continue this series of articles, we will be able to make up our own informed minds about this ongoing question and dilemma.
