Air Barrier Paper
•Air Barrier Paper - Controls air leakage into and out of the building.
•Air barrier paper functions as a weather resistant barrier, preventing rain from getting into the wall assembly while allowing water vapor to pass to the exterior.

Concrete Joints
Control Joint – Joints installed in concrete slabs and structures to direct and control cracks .
Concrete Joints contd…
•Isolation Joints – Joints embedded at the bottom of columns and walls to separate columns and walls from slabs.
•Isolation is a column from a slab
Concrete Masonry Unit Concrete Masonry Unit- A
concrete masonry unit is a rectangular concrete block used in construction which is made out of Portland cement and aggregate. In the US, the most common size is 8 in × 8 in × 16 in. In residential construction it primarily serves in foundations, retaining walls, and fireplaces.
Three courses of laid brick is roughly one CMU block.

Exterior Flush Door
Sidelight: a window, usually with a vertical emphasis, that flanks a door.
Transom: A transverse beam or bar in a frame, or to the crosspiece separating a door or the like from a window or fanlight above
Electrical Components
Electrical MeterTransformer
Service Head
transfers electrical energy from one circuit to another through inductively coupled conductors
measures the amount of electrical energy supplied to or produced by a residence
Duplex Receptacle
electrical connectors that have slots or holes which accept and deliver current to the prongs of inserted plugs
weatherproof entry point for above-ground electrical wiring or telephone lines into a home or business

Front End Loader
Front End Loader- A machine that is primarily used to load material into or onto another type of machinery. Differs from a backhoe because it doesn’t excavate dirt and differs from a bulldozer because it doesn’t clear and grade land
Gypsum Board
Gypsum Board- Drywall, gypsum board, construction is used globally for the finish construction of interior walls and ceilings.
Heat PumpWhat its doing: a machine or device that moves heat from one location (the 'source') to another location (the 'sink' or 'heat sink') using mechanical work
Advantage: Heat pumps are one of the most efficient systems you can buy to heat your home. It saves energy.
Disadvantage: If you live in an area that is frequently below freezing in winter, a back up system may be required to provide enough heat for the entire home
Compressor/Condenser
Air Handling Unit
What its doing: a device used to condition and circulate air as part of a heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system

Rigid Insulation
LintelLintel: A horizontal beam used in the construction of buildings that supports the masonry above a window or door opening

Plumbing
PlywoodPlywood: A type of Manufactured Wood made from thin sheets of wood, called plies or wood veneers. The layers are glued together so that adjacent plies have their wood grain at right angles to each other for greater strength. There are usually an odd number of plies, as the symmetry makes the board less prone to warping
Veneer: refers to thin slices of wood, usually thinner than 1/8 inch, that are typically glued onto core panels to produce flat panels such as doors, tops and panels for cabinets.
Radiant Barrier
Rebar•This rebar was a #3 with it being 3/8’’. •The purpose of the deformations in this rebar is to connect the slab when poured.
Steep Roof Drainage
Downspout: is a pipe attached to the side of a building, through which water flows from the roof into a drain
Splash block: directs water away to protect your foundation and soil from damaging rainwater erosion.
Gutter: A narrow channel which collects rainwater from the roof of a building and diverts it away from the structure, typically into a drain.
Steep Roof Materials
Metal Shingle Roof
Shingle: A shingle is flat covering element for a roof consisting of individual overlapping elements.
Galvanized Steel Metal Panel Roof
Clay Tile Roof
Roofing Underlayment
Underlayment: Roof underlayments are designed to protect the roof sheathing and structure from moisture and penetration What its doing: Roof underlayment performs as a secondary weather resistant barrier under roof cladding.

Gambrel
Mansard
Hip Gable
Steep Roof Terms1. Valley: is formed
where two roofs join at an angle
2. Ridge: The uppermost, horizontal external angle formed by the intersection of two sloping roof planes
3. Eave: The projecting overhang at the lower edge of a roof
4. Rake: The inclined edge of a sloped roof over a wall
5. Soffit: The finished underside of the eaves
6. Fascia: A flat horizontal band around a roof's perimeter.
7. Building without a fascia: A building with no horizontal band around a roof's perimeter

Vapor Retarder
WaterproofingWhat its doing: The conventional system of waterproofing involves membranes. This relies on the application of one or more layers of membrane, with this one being bitumen, that act as a barrier between the water and the building structure, preventing the passage of water to create a watertight structure.
Liquid Applied Waterproofing
Weep HoleWeep Hole: Are small openings left in the outer wall of masonry construction What its doing: It is an outlet for water inside a building to move outside the wall and evaporate.
Welded Wire Fabric
Windows
1. Sliding – Sliding windows move on top and bottom tracks.
2. Single hung -The window consists of a sash that move up and down
3. Awning – Awning windows are similar to casement windows but are hinged horizontally
