OCTOBER 2019 NEWSLETTER
ROBIN HOOD PRIMARY
Dear Parents / Carers,
As ever, the Autumn Term has begun in a busy manner with trips, exciting learning and visitors into school. Thank you to so many parents who have supported us in building great relationships between staff, pupils and parents by attending Parents Open Afternoons and Learner Reviews. These continue to be a very positive chance for parents, pupils and teachers to work together.
We had a super day at the start of October to celebrate our STEAM day! We hope your child enjoyed it! We will—as part of our school vision—continue to work to ensure that all children at Robin Hood “Aim High to Excel and Exceed” and we will be talking to children about STEAM subjects throughout the year. There will be the chance for over 60 children to go on STEAM related trips out during 2019-20 just as a result of being in school on our STEAM day. They were incredibly excited about it and letters will be out this week. We also had a super Arts week where every child across school created their self-portrait. These will be on display this Tuesday from 3pm to parents. The Arts are very important at Robin Hood and Mrs Whiting continues to drive us forward on our Artsmark Gold journey!

Our Ambassador Scheme has been running for a few years now and develops pupil responsibility through-out the school. Children are nominated to be “ambassadors” in a variety of areas—see the list on the next page! We are incredibly proud of these pupils who support others in developing a love of certain subject are-as and who are role models to their peers. We also have a School Council who have meetings with Mrs White.
Congratulations to our Ambassadors and School Council!
Our Curriculum
There will be lots going on this year—we will continue to be an RSC Associate school so do look out for some inspiring opportunities taking place for your child! We believe we have a super curriculum at Robin Hood enriched with Music, Arts, developing a love of books and we hope to excite children in their learning involving trips out of school and opportunities to learn outdoors.

Book Loving School
We are still loving Reading at Robin Hood and it is great to hear how so many children are visiting the Library. We are also developing another Library Area in KS1 and still have other spaces designed to being used by pupils for a cosy Reading session! We hope to inspire your child to read a range of texts and will keep the library stocked with new titles! Our Ambassadors will be visiting Water-stones in town with Mrs Habgood and Ms Hanson this November.
Please do work with us and aim that your child reads at least FIVE times a week and gets their learning log signed! Thank you for taking the time to help us in aim-ing high so that every child at our school develops a love of books!
PARKING:
We have had quite a few parents complain about parked cars causing congestion outside our school gates and on Mountfield Drive. Please do be aware that local PCSO’s are frequently patrolling these areas and will fine cars which are parked illegally. Please also do consider walking where you can to school to try and relieve congestion in the local area at these very busy times of the school day.

Ambassadors 2019-20
Mrs Andrews welcomed a baby boy over the half term. He is called Teddy and doing very well. Congratulations too to Mrs Forbes-Ritte (Robin Y3 Class Teacher) who was married over the half term and will return as Mrs McDonald!
We had a super day on Friday 4th October celebrating our STEAM focus for the year. Children rotated around a variety of activities and we ended the day with a whole school rocket launch. Many thanks to the parents who came to watch this on the school field!
We know that learners of STEAM subjects will be in high demand in the future. Our STEAM focus builds on the work we did last year to get every child thinking about their future aspiration may be and what they may like to become when they are older.
Huge thanks to Mr Allen who worked very hard to organise the day!
School Gardens: We hope you will have noticed children and staff alike very busy towards the end of the half term turfing an area which is to become stage 1 of our school gar-dens. It was great to watch so many children getting involved in this project and please do drop off any 2 litre plastic bottles in the wooden crate provided so we can construct our eco-greenhouse over the next few months. Thanks to all staff who have worked so hard to get the project up and running!
You may also have noticed the development of a Nursery natural stepping stone area. We are always considering how to develop our school grounds and you will—I hope—continue to see developments in our environment to ensure our school is the very best we can make it.
Children have deigned Christmas cards and you will again be able to purchase their child’s cards. More information will follow in November. These were a great quality last year and we hope you will enjoy the chance to buy your child’s cards and gifts again for Christmas! All monies made will go to our school funds.

Key Dates for Parents
We continue to use a peg system to reflect the behaviours shown by all children in their classrooms. Children all start the day on “green” (Aiming High). They can then move up the peg chart (Excel / Ex-ceed) or down the peg chart (Reflect / Time Out) dependent on the behaviours they show in the class-room.
We value parental input and believe that parents are key to ensuring school is suc-cessful in supporting every child makes great progress. If your child moves down the peg chart we will be sending them home with an orange or red slip explaining why they have been asked to go to paired class or why they have spent time in the office. Please do look at our behaviour policy on our website (or ask a staff member) if you would like more information.
