Human errorsWhat causes the
problem?
Individual road usersResponsibility?
People don’t want safety Peoples demand
for road safety?
Optimum number of fatalities
and serious injuriesWhat is the
appropriate goal?
Fatalities and serious injuries
Humans make mistakes
Humans are fragile
System designers
People want safety
Eliminate fatalities and
serious injuries
Effects of Vision Zero (examples)
• Median barriers, 2+1-lane roads
• Road safety cameras
• Urban safety – Active speed humps
• In-depth studies on fatal collisions
