Walking for reconciliation with our indigenous

brothers and sisters

Last Monday I had the privilege of accompanying

several of our students in a walk through Echuca that

the Shire of Campaspe and the Njernda Aboriginal

Corporation had organised as part of National

Reconciliation Day. The National Reconciliation

website states that “At the heart of reconciliation is the

relationship between the broader Australian

community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander

peoples. To foster positive race relations, our

relationship must be grounded in a foundation of truth.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have long

called for a comprehensive process of truth-telling

about Australia’s colonial history. Our nation’s past is

reflected in the present, and will continue to play out

in the future unless we heal historical wounds.

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and

actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating

a nation strengthened by respectful relationships

between the wider Australian community, and

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.”

Being part of this walk and listening to people talk of

their personal stories growing up here in Echuca was

certainly insightful, helping me better understand and

rightly value my neighbours and community.

One of those people telling part of their story was

Neva Atkinson, the Grandma of one of our students

and a real friend of River City Christian College. Once

again this year, Neva gave a strong testimony to her

faith in Christ and that it is only through Him that true

reconciliation can be achieved. She also traced the roots

of this reconciliation journey to faithful Christians

praying together - Neva continued that prayer over the

assembled gathering of more than 1000. Once again I

was proud to be there with my bold and faithful sister

in Christ, Neva. I was also proud to be walking with

our Year 9 student Kingsley McGrath who designed

and painted the banner pictured here.

Prayer Points

In the movement toward reconciliation with the indigenous peoples of Australia, may the call to

reconciliation of all Australians to God through Christ be ever more clearly heard.

Wisdom and peace for the RCCC staff team as they contend with a range of matters in these final four

weeks of the Semester.

Continue to uphold those amongst our school community who are unwell.

For our Primary students as they participate in swimming lessons this week, some of them for the first time.

Parents and friends are welcome to a time of prayer for the school each Monday during the

school term, 9am to 9.30am, in the meeting room off the front office.

Working Bee last Saturday

Thanks for the various people who came and lent a hand to

do a range of tasks around the school buildings and grounds

last Saturday. Some came for a short time, some for a long

time. Some came early and some later but altogether, many

things were achieved that would otherwise have taken

Alister a lot longer to achieve, so thanks very much for your

valued assistance. If you missed out on being with us and

would like to assist at another time before our Term 3

working bee, please see Peter Nelson.

Robot Men Visit to RCCC

Last week at RCCC, Allen and Steve graciously visited our

school once again and introduced an amazing display of

robotic devices that teachers and students could use in their

classrooms to both supplement and complement their

learning in various subjects. Allen and Steve were here for

the whole day and ran several separate sessions for both

Primary and Secondary students.

The first session in the multi-purpose hall comprised of

robotic cubes that were magnetically assembled; these

‘cubes’ each had their own unique robotic abilities ranging

from flashing lights, sounds, moving parts and sensory alarms

(the students appeared to be using their Lego assembling

abilities to good advantage). Other sessions were held in the

ICT Lab with what may be described as tiny robots with

wheels and moving heads (anyone remember the movie

Short Circuit from 1984?); students used an iPad as a remote

control to circumnavigate various tracks and circuits around

the classroom using their mathematical skills and digital

literacy knowledge.

Both Allen and Steve generously offered their expertise and

knowledge and are freelance consultants in digital literacy.

Both Steve and Allen are qualified Christian teachers who

recognise the importance of digital literacy in modern

schooling and assist both Christian and government schools

develop their digital literacy resources and learning

programs.

Both the students and staff of RCCC thoroughly enjoyed the

Robotics program and are very grateful for the generosity of

both Allen and Steve for their time, expertise and ultimately

their Christian conduct in helping others as engaged disciples

of Christ. Article written by Peter Schuller.

RCCC Inc. Board Members

Two of our RCCC Inc. Board members’ term on the Board

was expiring but both were unanimously returned at our

recent AGM. Therefore the school Board continues to

comprise of Peter Costello (Chairman), Ruth Broad, Glenn

Mackenzie, Chris Smith and Greg Jasper with Peter Nelson

in his role as Principal, an ex officio member.

Last Wednesday’s Futures Dinner

This was a lovely family evening together for our Year 9’s

and 10’s as we enjoyed a lovely meal prepared by the class

with Mr Jeff Bassett’s support. In between courses the

discussion continued with a focus on preparing for life

beyond RCCC and making ready for a smooth transition,

looking to God for His leading into what He may be calling

us into.

BEACON INTERVIEW AND RESUME WRITING SESSION

On Tuesday last week the Year 9 and 10 students enjoyed a

resume writing and interview technique session with Jacq

Campbell and Cheryl Sweeney from Beacon. They

participated in some activities to highlight their

employability skills and also learnt some of the finer points

about how to be interviewed.
