I remember the sand under my feet and the sun bursting its

powerfully humbling light down on me as the wheels in my head turned on Miami’s South Beach. I remember all the boundless goals I was setting in my mind for the potential Ritmo Revolution that I just became a part of. I remember being excited for my new journey of building my dreams and those of the family of professionals around me into remarkable realities. There is something freeing about a beautiful beach and all too often I get glimpse of exactly that from the statements I hear others proclaim while having the pleasure to vacation. Perhaps its the view of a seemingly limitless sea inviting you to step into its possibilities. Perhaps it’s the feeling of seeing the metaphor of a new beginning at the sands’ end. Perhaps it’s the feeling of being humbled by the suns powerful rays almost weighing you down by their brightness and heat. Perhaps for a simple mind it’s even just a common escape from the same troubles they already chose to bear with them. However for me there is one thing that happens every time I am blessed to feel sand beneath my feet...I dream...I dream with my eyes open. So, in this month’s edition of Ritmo, you will see we have brought the beach to you. For our team is made of exactly that...dreamers. What you are holding in your hand is the substance of us turning the dream and vision of Ritmo Magazine into a reality. The beauty in it is it doesn’t end there...it goes much deeper. Turn these pages and realize with every page there is a story behind it. From our creative team of writers, photographers, stylists, makeup artists, hair stylists, graphic designers

and countless others living the dream of painting on the canvas of life. From our family of DJs, musicians, composers, hosts, dancers and countless others putting together the addictive “Ritmo” that gives us no choice but to move. From our valued advertisers seeing what the impact of being involved in our Latin community has done for their businesses which they have poured their hearts out into building. These are the dreamers that make up the Ritmo family. That is what you are holding in your hand right now...hundreds of dreams turned into reality. So I invite you... Dream with us.

ENTREVISTA ESPECIALRITMOM A G A Z I N E

Buena suerte! That piece of paper does not define you, or your talent, but shows others your drive and discipline. Be a go getter. Also, no matter how hard it is, how much pressure there is, to maintain their respect, their class, and their composure. It is so important for a female to portray a role of intelligence as well as being saavy and street. There is going to be a lot of odds against you because you are a female in a male dominated business, as well as being a latina. You will constantly be tested and hated on. Prove them all wrong. Try to stay focused in everything you do. Be open minded and take constructive critisism, but never change who you are. Never depend on a man! and never let any distractions interfere with your goals! echa pa’lante y no mires patra!

1. Your Hair: Hair is definitely something that tells a lot about a woman and how she portrays herself. This end of summer, it’s so” in” to have that soft, sexy hair that men just can’t resist touching! We can ALL have this great hair day by finding the correct products that help prevent frizz/fly-aways. I myself, have the common semi-curly hair that easily frizz’ up on a hot humid day. My secret? Towel dry hair, a bit of Herbal Essences’ Tousle Me Softly and let it air dry. 2. Your Make-Up: It is no secret girls! Makeup is here to enhance our beauty NOT to make us look like circus clowns. So be easy with how and what you put on your delicate face. For great beauty tips on what is appropriate for daytime, evening or special occasions, check out our beauty section on page 39! 3. Accessories: A girl can never have too many accessories but it doesn’t mean you have to wear them all at once. No matter what you are wearing, a pair of

medium sized hoops or pearl studs, always looks sexy. For instance if you wear hoops, skip the necklace but definitely sport some sexy bangles or if you wear the studs…try a long necklace that can enhance the look you are going for. Don’t forget the bag! (I will be sharing tips on great bags that are popular on our next edition) 4. The Threads: This end of summer prints are really in style; floral, animal, etc. You can easily combine your favorite tank top with comfy skinny jeans, floral shorts/skirt and a wide belt that accentuates your curves. If you are looking for a sexy club look, try a black corset and an animal print mini skirt. You will surely be turning heads ladies! 5. Shoes: Shoes are everything! No matter if you are wearing a pair of jeans, shorts or a skirt as mentioned above, a sexy pair of heels will always do the trick! So be proud to strut your style as if the sidewalk was your own personal runway.

I nspiration is the spark needed to ignite the fire within each of us that causes us to take action. To inspire

another is to fill that person with enlivening or exulting emotions. Inspiration is the spark for motivation where motivation leads to action. Leaders motivate others for a common purpose and inspire others to do something for themselves. I have six ways to help motivate others, or help motivate yourself. 1. Use positive words: Positive words inspire positive emotions. Encourage others by reminding them of their talents, skills, and gifts. Focus on what they have done and not what they have not done. 2. Project a positive personality: Show others that you care. People don’t care about how much you know until they know how much you care. Take a genuine interest in other people.

3. Be a role model: People are inspired by those who “walk the walk”. Do not be afraid to share your own stories of accomplishment. Leaders who inspire practice what they preach and lead by example. 4. Challenge others: Those leaders who we love to hate are the ones who challenge us to do our best. A properly executed challenge can both motivate and inspire. 5. Share stories: People need to believe in what is possible. Stories that people can relate too can be very inspiring. Choose stories that convey the same message you are trying to get across. 6. Be enthusiastic: There is no better way to inspire others than by being filled with enthusiasm yourself. This enthusiasm is energy that easily spreads from one person to the next. To be effective, enthusiasm must be genuine; there is no faking enthusiasm.

Pools can be huge energy wasters-contributing to global warming and

boosting your energy costs. Fortunately, there are several ways to cut down on pool energy waste and still enjoy all the fun and refreshing benefits of pool ownership.

Pump Less: Many people run their pool pumps for much longer than is necessary. More use of the pump does not necessarily mean cleaner water. Try to reduce your pump time to a maximum of six hours per day. If you want to achieve even more dramatic savings, shoot for even less. Most people in a Department of Energy study in Florida were still satisfied with their water quality after using their pump for 3 hours per day. This saved them an average of 60% off their energy bill from pumping.

Efficient Heating Options: Heating can be one of the most costly elements of pool ownership-both financially and in wasted energy usage. Instead of a gas heater, consider investing in an energy efficient heater, such as a heat

pump pool heater. The best choice is a solar pool heater, which is by far the most cost-efficient option due to its low operating costs. No matter what kind of heater you have, be sure to turn the temperature down or off when you won’t be swimming for a few days. Keeping the temperature down, even just a couple degrees, will make a big difference. The Department of Energy estimates that each single degree rise in temperature will cost an additional 10%-30% more in heating costs, depending on your climate. Of course, you could always brave the colder temperatures and go without a heater at all.

Cover It: Buying a pool cover is one of the best ways to reduce pool energy usage. Heating costs can go down by as much as 70% when a cover is used. During the rest of the summer season in the Northeast, for example, this could mean savings of over $600 for the year.

1.Swear by leave-in conditioner. Don’t leave

home without it. Use it on every morning before going outside, to combat dryness. Here at Don’s & Diva’s we love Racioppi Suavita Cream by RR line.

2.Protect your tresses from the sun. This is especially

important if you color your hair! Use a spray-on UV protectent over your leave-in conditioner to prevent the sun’s rays from turning your hair a brassy shade. Racioppi Suavita Cream by RR line does the trick & fits right in your beach bag, too.

1.Add an accessory. A simple chic accessory like

a summer style pony holder gives flair and style to the simplest swimsuit. We highly recommend our Racioppi Gel by RR line to control those baby hairs.

4.Use the salt as your styling aid. Saltwater

gives hair texture and allows it to better hold a style. Take advantage by skipping the shampoo after the beach, then scrunching as you dry hair with a diffuser to get that beachy look.

5.Trim before summer. Summer tends to make

hair dry, so dead ends will really be in need of a cut. Trimming before the summer minimizes damage by removing unhealthy ends before you hit the sun. Call us today 610-432-1860 to schedule your appointment.

6.When in doubt...try a braid. Braided pigtails

look fresh and sexy at the beach. Simply part hair down the middle, braid each side, and secure.

-Judy Rodriguez

7.Apply styling

paste to short hair. A paste will give short cuts hold and definition, plus protect them from the sun and chlorine. We love & recommend Rusk being warped smoothed onto dry hair before going outside.

8.Sport a scarf.

That Jackie O. feel is always fabulous and protects hair at the same time: Tie a long headscarf over hair, letting the ends dangle.

9.Reduce blow-drying.

While you’re at the beach, vow to air-

dry your hair. Using a blowdryer after a day

in the sun can make your hair doubtly damaged.

10. Don’t leave home without

a wide-tooth comb. While saltwater is a good styling aid, it can leave hair knotted and clumpy. Spritz a bit of your Racioppi Suavita Cream by RR line UV protectant onto the comb’s teeth and run

it through strands after every swim to prevent those knots.

I t’s beach season & we all want to look divalicious at the beach. Not only is it essential to look good in that bathing suit

but how about those sexy tresses? If you want to look stunning when you hit the sand I have 10 easy ways to make it work this summer:

1. Red Fox tell the readers of

Ritmo Magazine a little bit about your artist career, what is your nationality and how long have you been a reggae singer? Started out from the tender age of 11 out of Jamaica.Migrated to NY at 16 years old where I started my professional career putting out songs like “Come Boggie Down”, “Down in Jamaica”, “Pose off” and “Bashment Party”. I was signed to Electra Warner Bros. where I made my debut album “As a Matter of Fox”. Co- founder of the dancehall group “Ruff Entry” which included “Shaggy, Ravon, Bajja Jed, Nikey Fungus, Screechy Dan and Mr. Easy. The first Dancehall Rapper based out of New York to sign a major deal and to appear on the Jay Leno show. Featured on the “In God we Trust” album with hip hop group “Bran Nubien”(spell check) and toured with Reggae Vocalist “Maxi Priest” for ten years. Known for bridging the gap between Hip Hop and Dancehall Reggae. Been going for 24

years strong.

2. Which was that hit that

opened up doors to you? When I did “Pose Off”. It crossed into the Hip Hop and Latino markets getting the attention of the major record companies.

3. Can you tell us what are you

working on currently? I have been putting out a lot of singles on independent labels from Jamaica and New York. Releases such as “So High” which I also did a video for, “Wanna love you” featuring young and upcoming sensation, Ishawna. “Money Bell” produced by New York’s popular Disc Jock Max Glazer, Meet me at the parkway on the (Lion Face) label and come back tonight by Ateam production. They will be a lot more releases this coming winter, which I will be doing videos for also.

5. What’s your opinion on

reggaeton? Do you see yourself doing a duet with a reggaeton singer and if so who would that artist be?

Well I love Reggaeton! I am quite open to do something with a Reggaeton artist one of these days. I am not sure who yet but we’ll see what happens in the future God spare.

6. What do you think about our

bilingual magazine bridging the gap? I think it’s great as it gives the Latinos a chance to learn more about what Reggae and Hip Hop artists are doing. Latinos have been great supporters of my music so this is a great opportunity for them to connect in what Red Fox is doing now.

ENTREPRENEUR OF THE MONTH RITMOM A G A Z I N E

ENTERTAINMENT RITMOM A G A Z I N E

I t is an honor for me to interview a very special and giving person like

Mr. Ozzie Rivera Sr., owner of A North Star Agency, as our “Entrepreneur Of The Month.” Mr Rivera came from Brooklyn, NY in 1976 with his wife and five children. His first job was as a project director for the Department of Labor. He also served as a counselor and job developer for the Community Action Committee of the LV. After several years of service and the strong need of an office who could serve minorities, he decided to go on his own in early 1989 by opening an insurance firm called “Rivera Insurance Services.” Mr. Rivera had to go through very tough obstacles as a hispanic because of so few opportunities available at that time. However, he felt that when you set your mind to help your community, anything was possible. His agency not only provides auto insurance and notary services, but also life insurance and products for your well-being. Mr Rivera has also received the Lifetime Literacy Achievement Award for being an inspiration to others by helping them improve their literacy. He is also currently involved in a few projects including an informative tv program, radio

show, and providing products that improve your health that is available through his website: www.anorthstarglobal.com. On a personal level, Mr. Rivera confesses that his passion has always been to become a singer. And even though he has not had the time to reach this dream, he does have his own record label. He also expresses how important it was to make time for his family and make them his priority in any situation. He is thankful for being blessed for having a wonderful wife and companion for almost 42 years. He feels that all the blessings from having several businesses and succeeding in them as well, are from God for always helping others before himself. He insists that with God, all things are possible. Mr. Rivera has not only told others of the importance of this, but also taught it to his own children whom are also successful. Because of his desire and willingness to help his community, he has reached to where others still aim. And I am very proud to say I am a friend of this good, humble and hard working “Entrepreneur.” As he said once before, “If I cannot jump over the wall, I will find a way around it..”

Alexander Emmanuel “Alex” Rodriguez (born July 27, 1975) is an American professional baseball third

baseman with the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball. Known popularly by his nickname A-Rod, he previously played shortstop for the Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers. Rodriguez is considered one of the best all-around baseball players of all time. He is the youngest player ever to hit 500 home runs, breaking the record Jimmie Foxx set in 1939, and the youngest to hit 600, besting Babe Ruth’s record by over a year. Rodriguez has fourteen 100-RBI seasons in his career, more than any player in history. On September 24, 2010, Rodriguez hit two home runs, surpassing Sammy Sosa’s mark of 609 HRs, and became the all-time leader in home runs by a player of Hispanic descent. In December 2007, Rodriguez and the Yankees agreed to a 10-year, $275 million contract. This contract was the richest contract in baseball history (breaking his previous record of $252 million)

Ray:If you want to have a great time with your friends, and need an elegant and spacious place to just enjoy, great music, the right place is Starters Riverport in the City of Bethlehen, PA . I was amazed when I first visited this vivid establishement, because its not just a huge night club it is also a restaurant, and if you need to have a V.I.P. section the second floor is the spot for you, where you can see everything that is happening at a glance, Saturday night is a “must go” I highly recommend it to all my partygoers, you will have a great time.

Peter:I took a trip to 809 Sangria Bar & Grill located at 112 Dyckman st. and I was very impressed with how nice the restaurant & club were. The Security was super tight at the door but the staff took good care of us directing us to our table upstairs. The club upstairs is rich and flavorful with a great sound and lighting system. Great place to have a night to remember. But don’t let it fool you just because is in Washington Heights doesn’t mean is a cheap spot, drinking at 809 can get a bit pricey when it comes to bottle service. Other than that I recommend anyone visiting Washington Heights to pay a visit try their Sangria specialties. And of course the cozy dining that transforms into a very seductive and chic lounge.

Ben Affleck (born Benjamin Géza Affleck-Boldt; August 15, 1972) is an American actor, film director, writer, and producer. Affleck was born in Berkeley, California. Affleck has been married to Jennifer Garner since June 2005. They have two daughters, Violet Anne, born December 2005, and Seraphina Rose Elizabeth, born January 2009.

Leo - August, 15thBenAffleckHOROSCOPERITMO

M A G A I N E

Aries - March 21 → April 20Although you are able to charge forward into the unknown, it would be wise to consider your options before you find yourself in over your head. Your usual way of overcoming fear is to jump into a situation as you feel the adrenaline building. However, the Moon’s shift into your sign today allows you to be uncharacteristically sensitive, making you more aware of the potential problems ahead. You can quickly change your plans along the way, but a bit of forethought is still advised.

Taurus - April 21 → May 21You could be so energetic today that you think you must hide your enthusiasm or you might upset the delicate balance that’s holding everything together. However, denying your feelings will probably increase the intensity of what’s happening, rather than alleviating it. It’s true that a total lack of self-restraint may exacerbate a problem, but your response isn’t limited to all or nothing. Be smart; revealing your emotions gradually will prevent others from being overwhelmed.

Gemini - May 22 → June 21You Twins are quite capable of following two tracks at the same time. You want your friends to be open and honest as they tell you what they need from you today. But simultaneously, you are afraid that their words are hiding unexpressed feelings. You might even be tempted to act foolishly as you try to expose someone’s hidden agenda. However, there’s no reason to force anything now since the truth will become apparent without your panicky reaction.

Cancer - June 22 → July 22You want others to see your courage in action today, motivating you to bury your feelings and push beyond your usual limitations. Your satisfaction is dependent on your public appearance, leading you to hide your anxiety so effectively that others think that you are fearless. But there’s no need to trick anyone into believing that you’re a superhero. Just quietly do your very best, and the results will speak for themselves.

Leo - July 23 → August 22You are excited about all the possibilities for growth and adventure, yet you are also aware that you will have to make sacrifices to accomplish your goals. Thankfully, you’re not concerned now about anything that could get in the way of your success. In fact, you might be so sure of yourself that you assume you’ll be able to overcome obstacles as they appear. Be wise and improve your chances by planning carefully and following through methodically.

Virgo - August 23 → September 23You face an uphill battle today as you try to figure out why your recent plan went wrong. You may be struggling to unravel the complex factors playing out in the present moment, but it’s apparent that you must make a mid-course correction or you won’t reach your destination. Nevertheless, it’s not wise to make changes too quickly. Overreacting may be even less helpful than doing nothing.

Libra - September 24 → October 23A relationship creates stress today as someone rebels against your plan. A close friend or partner might surprise you by expressing a position that is very different from yours. Although you may choose not to argue, just letting others do what they want isn’t in your best interest. It’s much smarter to directly confront small problems now so they won’t grow into major ones later.

Scorpio - October 24 → November 22You aren’t satisfied by simply doing good work today; you want others to acknowledge your brilliance. Attacking an old project in a new and different way isn’t enough to hide your insecurity. But there’s no need to put so much effort into seeking recognition, especially if your desire for the spotlight allows you to forget that your initial purpose was to get the job done. Creating a detailed plan can be quite helpful, but too much analysis might get in the way of your productivity.

Sagittarius - November 23 → December 2You are overly self-expressive today with the enterprising Aries Moon now moving through your 5th House of Spontaneity. However, your exuberant feelings of creativity may be too much for those around you. Being less demonstrative is not a sensible solution, but it helps to allow time for others to show off their talents, too. Encouraging friends and co-workers to embark on an adventure with you may be much more rewarding than just doing it by yourself.

Capricorn - December 22 → January 21You may be stepping onto unfamiliar ground today as you struggle to balance your desire to engage someone you love and your need to withdraw into your own world. Fortunately, you can play both extremes now. Keep your heart open while also being mindful of setting your boundaries and respecting the needs of others. It doesn’t matter if you’re feeling a bit uncomfortable, because it’s at these awkward spots that the real magic happens.

Aquarius - January 22 → February 19You are an intense bundle of erratic thoughts today as familiar ideas combine to create ingenious plans. Luckily, you can showcase your talents without too much effort. However, there is a huge difference between an adequate job and an awesome one. Putting extra time into your preparation pays off now, so don’t take any unnecessary shortcuts.

Pisces - February 20 → March 20It’s scary to push forward so far that you must scramble your way back to safe ground. There’s no need to throw out your sensible plans just because you momentarily forgot about them and then moved too fast. Risk-taking isn’t necessary now; just slow down and stay on the current path. Don’t let the increasing pressure trick you into reacting impulsively.
