AT&T Fleet Operations in compliance with DOT, environmental, health and safety regulations and policies has a mission to reduce AT&T's risk and liability, and contribute to providing a healthy, sustainable safe environment.

AT&T’s Fleet:

One of the largest fleets in the United States of America Technician vehicles are equipped with GPS monitoring devices that

track, provide valuable driver data and monitor driving patterns of our technicians for coaching

With this data, AT&T has the potential to reduce cost related to

ecological impacts such as the reduction of fuel consumption and carbon emissions and improve current safety practices

Ride Safe will use vehicle data to evolve AT&T’s safety practices and strengthen our

ecological commitment

Ride Safe – Program Overview

Ride Safe will enhance our current safety practices using a self correction model to drive awareness and improve : driving behaviors , vehicle MPG , vehicle wear and tear and improve AT&T’s environmental impact of AT&T’s fleet

Through the analysis of historical driver data and a collaborative effort from the GPS Team, Big Data, EH&S, Fleet, Mobile App Team, Network and BI worldwide, we designed a safety focused mobile/desktop application with a Pilot launch date of March 2015.

Harsh Acceleration

Stepping hard on the gas pedal decreases fuel efficiency

Decreases fuel efficiency and increases wear-and-tear on your car’s brake pads

Decreases your fuel efficiency by as much as 33% at highway speeds and 5% in town

Reduces the severity of injury and may prevent

Idling less reduces harmful carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, reduces fuel waste, increases energy sustainability, and reduces company expenses

Driving Behaviors

Behavior(s) Definition Contributing Factors Prevention

Harsh Braking

• Hard braking occurs if the driver decelerates at greater than 8 mph/s. o Example: If you are traveling at 40 mph and come to a stop in 5 seconds (40/5 = 8).

• Driving aggressively • Tailgating ;driving to close to

other drivers • Going too fast • Not paying attention

• Proper eye lead • Drive at a steady speed. • Maintain adequate “Eye Lead

Time • Maintain constant eye movement • Maintain a safe space cushion

Harsh Acceleration

• Harsh acceleration occurs if you accelerate at greater than 6.8 mph/second. o Example: If you accelerate from being stopped to 34 mph in less than 5 seconds (34/5 = 6.8)

• Driving aggressively. • Not looking for obstacles or other

vehicles before entering an intersection or highway.

• Not accounting for other drivers .

• Proper vehicle space • Constant Eye Movement • Mirror and Head Checks

Speeding • Driving over the posted

speed limit

• Driving aggressively • Not looking for obstacles or other

vehicles before entering an intersection or highway

• Not accounting for other drivers

• Drive the posted speed limit • Yielding • Reduce your speed and increase

the space cushion during adverse driving conditions.

Driver behavior reduction benefits:

Safer drivers Reduce vehicle wear and tear Reduce vehicle collisions Reduce fleet fuel consumption/fuel economy

Extrinsic Motivation: People do something because they know they will be rewarded for it

Goal Gradient Theory: The closer people get to a goal, the more effort they put into meeting it

Idiosyncratic Fit: People like to believe their situation and opportunities are unique

Intrinsic Motivation: People do something because they want to do it

Illusionary Goal Progress: People change behavior faster if you give them a head start and are more likely to work to achieve a series of small goals

Deterministic: Knowing what will happen (“If I do this, I’ll get that”)

o Control Group: No access to Ride Safe

o Pilot Group: Given access to Ride Safe

• What:

o Equip drivers with data for (3) three driving behaviors via a mobile & web Platform daily

o Establish individual goals based on historical driver data and reward drivers for achieving set goal

o Educate drivers on how to achieve a better driving performance

• Timeframe: March 15 – July 15

• Desired Outcome:

o Educate drivers on safer driving techniques

o Give visibility into their driving behavior providing them an opportunity to self-correct any deficiencies

o Analyze driver behavior improvement
