Launch vSphere client –

Right click on 192.168.0.27 and select “New Virtual Machine” –

Choose “Custom” and click on Next –

Choose a name for the new virtual machine –

Choose “Local Datastore” as the storage option for the new VM –

Choose the latest VM version -

Choose the required OS, Linux and RHEL 6 in this case -

Choose minimun number of sockets and CPU as this will be used as a template -

Select 2 GB of Memory for the template -

Select the number of NICs, select Network as “VM Network” and Adapter as “E1000” -

Select “VMware Paravirtual” as the SCSI Controller -

Select “Create a new virtual disk” -

Select only a small number as this will be used as a template -

Select “SCSI (0:0)”, do not check “Independent” -

Review all the options selected and click on “Finish”

RHEL 6 Installation
Select the newly created “RHEL 6 Generic” VM and power it on -

Click on the CD icon on the Top Panel and select “Connect to ISO image on local disk” -

Browse to the location where you have the OS software, select “rhel-server-6.6-x86_64-dvd”
and click on Open -

Open the VM Console, it should show a message similar to the one below, hit enter -

The VM should automatically read from the mounted DVD and display the options below.
Select “Install or upgrade an existing system” -

Choose “Skip”, the media has already been tested and is good -

Click on “Next” -

Select “English (English)” and click on Next -

Select “U.S English” and click on Next -

Select “Basic Storage Device” and click on Next -

Click on “Yes, discard any data” as there is no data on the disk right now, click on Next -

Keep the default hostname as this is only a template, click on Next -
© 2015 Vigilant Technologies
Choose the appropriate Time Zone and click on Next -

Choose a password for the root user, it is root123 here -

Select “Use Free Space” and click on Next -

Click on “Write changes to disk” -

Select “Basic Server” installation, select RHEL and “Customize Later”, if not already selected -

Monitor the installation progress -

Click on “Reboot” once the installation completes -
