CHEMISTRY
HEAD OF DEPARTMENT: MR M FERGUSON ________________________________________________________________
Exam Length: 1 hour Exam Structure: This is a structured question paper, which requires the answers to be
written on the paper. Some of the questions require one-word answers but other questions will require longer answers in which explanations may be asked for. There will be diagrams to label and/or draw.
_____________________________________________________________________________ Exam content: This is based on the topics taught during the year. We have covered:
Safety in the laboratory. Tools of the chemist – the Bunsen burner and simple apparatus. The three states of matter and simple particle theory, including change of state,
density, explaining pressure in gases, expansion and contraction. Separating mixtures – dissolving, filtration, evaporation, crystallisation, distillation,
fractional distillation, chromatography and using a separating funnel. Acids and Alkalis – we will only test those sections covered in class. How science works. Laboratory skills including scientific diagrams.
________________________________________________________________________________ Revision tips:
o Try not to leave revision to the last moment. o You will be provided with other helpful revision resources on Show My Homework. o Also, remember you have already created revision resources and kept topic tests over
this year. You can use these tests as practice questions. o Read through your notes and make sure that you understand them. o Try to learn the correct scientific words and try to learn to spell them correctly. o Use past revision sheets and test papers to help you. o Think of questions that you could be asked. Write them down and then try to answer
them. o Ask someone in the family to test you. A list of revision questions is given overleaf to
help you. o Use your text book – it has lots of good questions to help you think!
Exam tips:
o Read the questions carefully. o Answer the question that you are being asked. o If you cannot answer a question, leave it and go on to the next one. Come back to
the unanswered question later. o Look at the marks given for each question. If there are two marks then you will need
to give at least two words or two facts depending on the question.

MUSIC
HEAD OF DEPARTMENT: MISS A ABIS
Exam Length: The exam takes place during lessons in the first half of the Summer Term. The total duration is four periods. Exam Structure: Part One: Composing This will take place during the first two periods of the summer term. Part Two: Performing This will take place during the following two periods. Exam content: Using the C major scale and crotchet and minim note durations, you will compose a four bar melody. The task will be explained and demonstrated by the teacher before you start. You will receive a worksheet on which to compose your melody. You have two periods in which to do this. You will then perform the melody you have composed in front of the class during the following two periods. You will only perform once and you will listen to each other’s performances. There is a simple accompaniment which the teacher will play at the same time. You will be assessed on your ability to compose a melody using crotchets and minims. You will also be assessed on your ability to perform your melody confidently. The teacher will play the accompaniment part, and you will be assessed on your ability to play in time with the accompaniment (i.e. without rushing ahead or slowing down).
Exam tips
o Bring good quality pencils with a sharpener and a rubber to lessons. You must be able to edit your work easily so you should not use pen. Your note writing must be clear, so you should ensure your pencils are sharp.
o As you are composing your melody, ensure you can also play it. Using step-
wise movement (notes next to each other) and small leaps will work best. Avoid using lots of wide leaps which are tricky to play and will make the melody sound disjointed.

REVISION GUIDE YEAR 7 Summer 2019
Revision tips:
o Make sure you have caught up on any notes that you may have missed through absence. Go over your notes and the relevant sections of your text book.
o Use the unit checklists in your book to make sure that you have covered everything.
o Write yourself notes on key points – use colour. Include formulae, units and correct
scientific words.
o Try to think of new situations where you can apply the ideas you have learnt eg the forces acting on a diver before and after she hits the water and the energy transfers involved.
o Practise answering questions. You can use worksheets and test sheets that you
already have and/or make up your own questions. Use your notes to check your answers. Ask someone in the family to test you.
o In the examination, make sure that you read the question carefully and include all the
relevant facts. Look at the number of marks for a question to check that you have included enough detail.
A useful website for revision with information, quizzes and activities is http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/subjects/zh2xsbk You can find this by searching BBC Bitesize KS3 Physics. Useful sections are fuels and energy resources, energy transfers and forces but not pages on moments and machines.

REVISION GUIDE YEAR 7 Summer 2019
All the vocabulary and grammar learnt through the year can be found in your son/daughter’s exercise books. Revision tips:
o Start early o Practise with your friends and family, get them to ask you the questions in a
random order so you make sure you understand. o Make flashcards with your answers. Perhaps you can erase/cross out words as
you get more and more confident with them. o A very good idea is to record yourself onto your phone and play it back. You
will also spot pronunciation mistakes more easily! o Use “Linguascope” and your active learn access to revise.
Exam tips:
o Do not panic. There is nothing new in the exam. You know all the possible questions you can be asked. Revision/practice lessons will be held the week before the exam.
o Always listen to the questions carefully and try to develop your answers as much as you can.
o To achieve the best marks, remember to expand your sentences using connectives, giving opinions and justifying them.
o Do not panic! Speaking Spanish is fun and you should try and enjoy it!
