Review of ‘’the hobbit’’ by J.R.R. Tolkien J.R.R. Tolkien was born in 1892. He was a major scholar of the English Language. He went to University of Oxford. His two most famous stories were that of the Hobbit and The lord of the Rings. He was considered one of the best authors. He used many literary elements to explain his works. In this story he did the same. I liked the story. The author explained the characters very good with vivid details. He would bring the image of what a hobbit looks to your mind. He was very good and creating images for the reader. J.R.R. Tolkien used many different types of characters which was set in a some what different world then we have. In the story there are Dwarfs, Goblins, humans, elves, wizards, and hobbits. There were also talking spider colonies, Raven colonies that could talk as well as eagle colonies that could talk. It was not a story meant for younger kids as there was war and violence going on. The setting was a hobbit hole where a hobbit lived. He was not particular for adventures but would soon deny that claim.

Review of ‘’the hobbit’’ by J.R.R. Tolkien

A hobbit is smaller then a human about half the height, they do not have beards like dwarves, wear no shoes and are a little fat. The name of the Hobbit is Bilbo Baggins. He is part took and part Baggins. The Baggins are not suppose to have any adventures while his took side had lots of adventures. In this story the wizard Gandalf brought Bilbo and took him out of his every day life of making cakes for lunch, having tea time, breakfast of bacon and eggs , lunch and dinner all a hobbits every day routine to an adventure of a life time. Bilbo would meet 13 dwarves ( Balin, Dwalin, Kili, Fili, Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, and the leader Thorin). They are all part of the Thorin and Company. They were all planning on going to the Lonely Mountains to kill the dragon called Smaug and take the treasure he was sitting on. They would split it into

14ths. Bilbo though wanted no part of it and refused. The next day his Tookish came and he ran for them. They were now on a adventure to the Lonely Mountains which was a long deadly journey. They had to walk all the way to the Misty Mountains, go through the Mirkwood Forests, to the Long Lake and walk up to the Dragons Lair through a secret door.

Bilbo had changed through the Journey. He had finally liked himself and believed he can conquer a lot. Bilbo had saved them many times. The dwarves didn’t like the idea of having a Hobbit as the burglar to steal the gold and diamonds and gems from the Dragon. He earned the trust and respect as the story went on. They would have to though come to a end where they would have to fight over the gold, Diamonds and gems. This author brings that to the story. He would bring character traits to all the characters to make the adventure and journey more difficult.

J.R.R. Tolkien used many literary elements. He would use figurative language to explain storms, other animals and characters, wars, and magic. Tolkien would explain the paths they had to take in great details from all the boulders that were on it to the creepy sounds they heard J.R.R. Tolkien brought that experience to the story. He also included a lot of character traits. For example Bombur was fat and slowed them down sometimes especially when he would sleep, Thorin had a big ego and was leader and didn’t respect others as much as he should have, while others were young and brought excitement to the story such as Kili and Fili.

Overall the story was great and is a must read if you like adventures that the endings are happy but not always what you would expect of the ending to be. I will not rune what happens and the end but will say that the story was great and you will be satisfied when you finish reading the classic ‘’the hobbit’’
