Some probability vocabulary

An experiment is a situation involving chance or probability that leads to results called outcomes.

An outcome is the result of a single trial of an experiment.

An event is one or more outcomes of an experiment.

Probability is the measure of how likely an event is. A complete list of all possible outcomes of a

random experiment is called sample space.

Theoretical vs. Experimental

Theoretical probability is when all of the number of ways an event can occur is written over (divided by) all of the outcomes (events) which can occur.

Experimental probability is when the number of times an event occurs is written over (divided by) the number of trials conducted.
