TRANSCRIPT
The Reverend Joseph A Fitzymer, S. J. Institute on Sacred Scripture will convene at Georgetown University for the 53rd consecutive year from June 7-9, 2016. Topics from both the Old and New Testaments will be the subject of presentations by a distinguished faculty of biblical scholars. Lectures and discussions will enable the participants to increase their understanding of the Bible and its continued relevance to modern life.
Institute sessions will meet from 9:00 a. m. to 4:30 p. m. on Tuesday and Wednesday and from 9:00 a. m. to 1:30 p. m. on Thursday. Four major presentations are scheduled for each day, with opportunity for questions and discussion following each lecture. In addition all faculty will participate in a panel discussion that will close the afternoon sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday.

REGISTRATION: To register, simply return the attached rgistration form with a check for the amount owed in the envelope provided. Checks should be made out to Georgetown University.Additional information can be obtained by visiting http://www9.georgetown.edu/faculty/mitchela/guiss/ or by calling (202) 687-5756. Enrollment is limited and early registration is encouraged. Information on parking, seminar location, etc., will be sent to participants prior to start date. Registration, tuition, and housing fees must be received by May 15, 2016. Georgetown reserves the right to reschedule or cancel courses.
CANCELLATION POLICYTo receive a refund for cancellation, a written request must be submitted by May 24, 2016. Written requests may be submitted by fax c/o Prof. Mitchell @ (202) 687-8000. No refunds are possible for cancellation after May 24, 2016.
HOUSING and MEALS: Double occupancy rooms are available in Copley Hall (each bathroom serves two rooms) for a rate of $68/ night (single) and Village C (private bath) $76. Please note that these are dormitory rooms without the ammenities of hotel rooms. There is a one-time $12 charge for linens for each bed. Participants may check in between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., beginning Monday, June 6. Check-out is 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 9. Meals are not included in tuition amount, but are available on campus and at nearby restaurants.
PARKING: Campus parking is available for $80 From Monday, June 6 - Thursday, June 9, 2016.Participants not residing on campus should not purchase a parking pass, but should pay the $20 daily rate at the Southwest Quadrangle Garage (Canal Road Entrance) for a total of $60.

Professor Heschel’s scholarship focuses on Jewish-Christian relations in Germany during the 19th and 20th centuries, the history of biblical scholarship, and the history of anti-Semitism. Her numerous publications include Abraham Geiger and the Jewish Jesus (University of Chicago Press, 1998), which won a National Jewish Book Award, and The Aryan Jesus: Christian
Theologians and the Bible in Nazi Germany (Princeton University Press, 2010). She has also edited Moral Grandeur and Spiritual Audacity: Essays of Abraham Joshua Heschel (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1997). Professor Heschel is the recipient of numerous grants, including those from the Ford Foundation, Carnegie Foundation, and a yearlong Rockefeller fellowship at the National Humanities Center. Currently she is a Guggenheim Fellow and is writing a book on the history of European Jewish scholarship.

Fr. Senior has published extensively on biblical topics, with numerous books and articles for both scholarly and popular audiences. He is the general editor of the acclaimed Catholic Study Bible (Oxford University Press, rev. ed. 2006) and editor in chief of the journal, The Bible Today. His most recent publications Matthew: At The Crossroads of Early Christianity (Peeters, University of Leuven Press, 2011) and Why the Cross? (Nashville: Abingdon Press,
2014). In 2014 he was awarded the Order of Lincoln Award, the State of Illinois’ highest honor for public service. He is past President of the Catholic Biblical Association of America (1997-1998). In 2001, Pope John Paul II appointed him as a member of the Pontifical Biblical Commission and he was reappointed in 2006 by Pope Benedict XVI.
Professor Mitchell is the author of Hebrews in the Sacra Pagina Series (Liturgical Press, 2007), winner of a 2008 Catholic Press Association Book Award in Scripture. He has published articles on various New Testament topics and books such as, 1 Corinthians, Luke, Acts of the Apostles and Hebrews in New Testament Studies, The Journal of Biblical Literature, Biblica, The Catholic Biblical Quarterly and The Bible Today. He is the editor for books on Hebrews in The
Religious Studies Review. He had served for eight years on the Editorial Board of The Catholic Biblical Quarterly. He is currently writing a commentary on 1 Corinthians.
