SNAP OVERVIEW OF AQUAECO-SRORS BENEFITS

• Mill processing 300,000mt FFB a year producing ~65% raw sludge with ~1% residue oil will recover 1,462mt oil a year. Revenue from oil recovered at RM2,600/mt oil will generate an additional RM3.8mil. Payback period 2-3 years.

• Revenue of mill at RM40/mt FFB processed is RM12mil a year. The additional revenue from oil recovered is 31.2%!

• Mills effluent ponds designed for 25,000ppm BOD load, with EFB Liquor will have a 50,000ppm BOD load. With AquaEco-SRORS installed, BOD reduction is ~70%. Load going into pond will be 15,000ppm even with EFB Liquor. This is ~60% of original load to pond.

• Yearly saving of RM150,000-RM250,000 from pond desludging, tertiary plant operation and effluent treatment.

Towards ZERO DISCHARGE

Conversion of raw sludge to a clear filtrate solution by AquaEco-SRORS has made it possible to evaporate the filtrate to give the mills zero discharge and thus a Biogas Avoidance Facility also. Water is recovered and recycled for the mill use, reducing water required for processing by 60-70%.

AquaEco-SRORS (Solids Removal Oil Recovery System) is a patented technology with 2 full scale plants in operation. It provides the first real breakthrough to remove suspended solids and wax from raw sludge and recovers the residual oil inherent in the sludge at the oil room before discharging a clear filtrate with reduced COD/BOD to the effluent pond for treatment. This system pays for itself from the increase in revenue and from savings on lowered desludging cost.

INSTALLATION & MODULE SIZE

AquaEco-SRORS plant is installed at the Mill’s Oil Room. AquaEco Reactors are built in modules of 15, and 20mt/hr capacity. Number of AquaEco Reactors required in the Mill will depend on Mill capacity. Typically, systems are built up in multiple modules to allow for maintenance and to provide redundancy. System operation is automated using PLC control. Small footprint.

Main components of system are AquaEco Reactors, 3 phase decanter, and series of tanks.

Raw sludge is separated into Filtrate and Concentrate in AquaEco Reactor.

All the oil and suspended solids are in the Concentrate.

Filtrate is water with dissolved organic solids, with negligible oil and suspended solids. COD-BOD is about 30% that of raw sludge.

Concentrated slurry is processed in the 3 phase decanter to separate into decanter cake (solids), heavy phase & light phase.

Light phase is sent to vertical clarifier to recover oil.

Oil recovered is considered CPO as it has been recovered within the Oil Room.

REVENUE GENERATING CUTTING EDGE TECHNOLOGY FOR PALM OIL MILLS

ADVANTAGES – INCREASE OIL RECOVERYThe technology is revenue generating as oil recovered is CPO, and the amount of oil recovered makes it self-paying. There will be no more sludge oil in the effluent pond.

ADVANTAGES – LOWER TREATMENT POND COSTAnswer to ponds sludging up is to solve the problem upstream – stop solids and oil from going into the ponds. AquaEco-SRORS ensures this and so ponds do not get sludged up so frequently. AquaEco-SRORS also remove wax in EFB juice which sludge up ponds very fast. Massive savings in desludging cost and ponds operation costs.

Dissolved organic solids in filtrate can easily be digested by microbes. Effluent discharge BOD can be brought down to 20 ppm much easier to comply with DOE requirements as incoming Filtrate BOD is about 30% of Mill’s original Raw Sludge BOD output. Fewer ponds are required - land cost savings.

Green House Gases (GHG) production will be reduced by about 70%. This will auger well for companies that intend to sell their oil to EU market. EU Renewal Energy Directive 2009 stated that GHG must be reduced to 50% by 2017 and 60% by 2018. Extra points for RSPO.

ADVANTAGES – IMPROVE BIOGAS PROCESSMills with biogas system can still install AquaEco-SRORS in the mill. The filtrate and the decanter cake can be re-combined in structured configuration in tanks to enable controlled bio-gas production.
