“To Know Jesus And To Make Him Known”
Restless
We got a pandemic puppy in April. Bo Barkley is a pointer/lab mix, is 6 months
old, and continues to grow. Our family is finding that life with a large, active dog is
quite different from the life we’ve known with G.G., our little Chihuahua mix. In-
stead of the comfortable mornings with coffee and a book that we have known, we
now have 40 pound ball of constant energy that loves people and playing that deter-
mines how much peace and quiet the morning will offer.
The truth is that big, active dogs have particular exercise needs. When we don’t
walk Bo Barkley like he needs, his pent up energy comes out in other ways. At first,
it’s through peskiness and annoyance as he tries to tell us what he needs. Then, it
becomes destructive as he begins chewing on shoes or a rug or furniture. What else
is he supposed to do with all of that energy?
In some ways, Bo Barkley is acting out something that I have felt. Maybe, you
have, too. There is an energy within us to be active in ways that just aren’t possible
right now. There are social needs that Zoom just can’t quite meet. So, I feel the
presence of pent up energy.
It’s interesting. When our needs aren’t met in terms of activity and social engage-
ment, it seems to manifest itself in ways similar to a pointer/lab mix. Our anxious
energy leads to behaviors that are difficult for others. Then, our anxious energy
leads to behaviors that are destructive. I’ve found myself having a short fuse recent-
ly, easily agitated and lacking patience. That tells me that I’ve got energy that needs
to be expended in positive ways. I know that I’m not alone.
I’m enjoying reading How To Pray by Pete Greig again. He gives helpful instruc-
tion when he says that sometimes the best way to quiet our minds and hearts is to
exercise our bodies. Exercise, then, can be promote the spiritual practice of still-
ness. When we have pent up energy, it’s hard to pause and pay attention to the Holy
Spirit’s work in our lives.
So, take care of yourself during this time. You may feel like a pointer/lab mix pent
up with anxious energy. Spend your energy well and stay connected as deeply as
possible to meaningful relationships as possible.
Peace,
Brian

Worship Arts Notes ♫♫ Christ must be at the center of our hymnody. Hymns and songs
should lead us “to meditate on the Lord Jesus Christ in the length,
breadth, height and depth of how he has revealed himself in Scrip-
ture to us.” Christ humbled himself to death and was exalted to the
heights of heaven for our salvation (Phil 2:6-11). We sing because
there is nothing else, no one else more worthy.
And yet, we do not merely affirm the praiseworthiness of Christ on
an abstract, intellectual level. It is much more personal than that. We
sing because we have tasted the sweetness of Christ’s love poured
out on us. Forgiveness. Adoption. Christ’s righteousness imputed to
us. His Spirit to dwell in us. These gifts, and many more, draw
hymns and songs of praise from our hearts—a hymnody fixed on the
glories of Christ.

Livestream Hymn Sing on Facebook Live this Sunday, August 9 at

Our missionary partners in Central Asia recently wrote the following to all their supporters: “First off, we want to thank you for all your prayers and support during this time. As we’ve written in previ-ous updates, there has been a great need around us, and through your prayers and many of your dona-tions, we have been able to help provide food, ne-cessities, and utilities to around 70 families over the course of the past 3 months! We could not have done it without you!
“With that said, due to the economic hardship on several of our partners, we have personally lost sev-eral financial partners and a few others have let us know that they will also have to end their partner-ship later this year.” This is not our only partner who is struggling financially during these difficult days. In fact, we started hearing from several of our partners last year that with church memberships dwindling missionaries are feeling the pinch finan-cially. Thankfully, Aldersgate has been able to re-main faithful in our giving through Faith Prom-ise. You can give to Faith Promise by indicating such on your electronic donation or by writing “Faith Promise” in the memo line of your check and mailing it to the church. All Faith Promise dona-tions go directly to missions.

Helpful COVID 19 Information from the CDC...
If you have or think you might have COVID-19, it is important to stay home and away from other people. Staying away from others helps stop the spread of COVID-19. If you have an emergency warning sign, get emergency medical care immediately.
When you can be around others (end home isolation) depends on different factors for different situations.
A summary of the CDC’s recommendations for your situation are listed below. (visit https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/if-you-are-sick/end-home-isolation.html for further information and the full article).
I think or know I had COVID-19, and I had symptoms.
You can be around others after:
10 days since symptoms first appeared and
24 hours with no fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and
COVID-19 symptoms have improved (for example, cough, shortness of breath)
Note that these recommendations do not apply to persons with severe COVID-19 or with severely weakened immune systems (immunocompromised). These persons should follow the guidance below for “I was severely ill with COVID-19 or have a severely weak-ened immune system (immunocompromised) due to a health condition or medication. When can I be around others?”
I tested positive for COVID-19 but had no symptoms
If you continue to have no symptoms, you can be with others after 10 days have passed since you had a positive viral test for COVID-19. Most people do not require testing to decide when they can be around others; however, if your healthcare provider recommends testing, they will let you know when you can resume being around others based on your test results. If you develop symptoms after testing positive, follow the guidance above for “I think or know I had COVID-19, and I had symptoms.”
I was severely ill with COVID-19 or have a severely weakened immune system (immunocompromised) due to a health condition or medication. When can I be around others? People who are severely ill with COVID-19 might need to stay home longer than 10 days and up to 20 days after symptoms first ap-peared. Persons who are severely immunocompromised may require testing to determine when they can be around others. Talk to your healthcare provider for more information. If testing is available in your community, it may be recommended by your healthcare provid-er. Your healthcare provider will let you know if you can resume being around other people based on the results of your testing.
For Anyone Who Has Been Around a Person with COVID-19
Anyone who has had close contact with someone with COVID-19 should stay home for 14 days after their last exposure to that person. However, anyone who has had close contact with someone with COVID-19 and who:
developed COVID-19 illness within the previous 3 months and
has recovered and
remains without COVID-19 symptoms (for example, cough, shortness of breath)
does not need to stay home.
