Responsive DesignThe very first thing you will likely notice when you log into Sakai after the upgrade is the updated look of Sakai 11. The new, modern interface of Sakai 11 also comes with a responsive design! This means the system will detect what type of device you are using and adjust the website according to your screen size. Functional enhancements, including a breadcrumb navigation bar and a simplified process for managing favorites sites.

New GradebookIn Sakai 11, the Gradebook provides simple, spreadsheet-style grade entry, so you’ll be able to grade more easily and efficiently. The new Gradebook tool provides a number of functional enhancements, including:

• Automatic saving / score validation

• Individual student Grade Summary screens

• Simplified and consolidated Import/Export process

• Enhanced statistics for graded items

• Flexible display options for final course grades (letter grade, percentage, points)

• Improved accessibility

• Simplified settings screen

Lessons Tool EnhancementsThanks to an improved tool interface and a number of functional enhancements, the Lessons tool in Sakai 11 is more powerful and flexible than ever before. Content authoring/presentation is greatly enhanced by the inclusion of new, multi-column layouts. And with a host of additional features, it is easier than ever to develop innovative content, especially student-generated content.

• Section breaks and column breaks

• New functionality: add checklists

• Enhanced student content areas and peer review rubrics

• Style settings for column content areas

Mathematical NotationDesigned to present mathematics natively, Sakai 11 can now display LaTeX equations as mathematical notation on most pages. Using new LaTeX options, user can simply write LaTeX in an enabled tool and the resulting equation will be displayed beautifully.

Upgrade scheduled for December 20th, 2016

Sakai 11 EnhancementsModules and Discussion & Private Messages are incompatible with the new responsive design. Equivalent functionality is available in the Lessons and Forums tool, respectively.

The old (Classic) Gradebook will be available until the end of the Spring 2017 semester.

Streaming video with Warpwire will be even easier in Sakai 11. Instructors can go to Site Info > Edit Tools > and enable the Warpwire streaming media application in their Sakai site.

The most useful Calendar feature is that students can subscribe to their Home (formerly My Workspace) calendar which contains a collated listing of events from all sites that the student is a member of. Students will be able to subscribe to the sakai calendar URL from their favorite calendaring application. (This is not a snapshot of events as the link is dynamic.)
