• BE ‘SMART’ – STAY SAFE IN THE SUN!

We want all the children to enjoy the sun when they have breaks from class but it is important to remember that the sun’s rays are particularly strong over the summer months and this can lead to your child’s skin being damaged. Although this might not seem like a problem now, it can sadly lead to skin cancer in later life. Your child’s health is important to us and as we are a health promoting school we want to raise awareness of the importance of sun protection. We would like to encourage your child to be ‘SMART’ in the sun.

Stay in the shade as much as possible between 11 – 3Make sure you never burnAlways cover up (Polo shirt, sun hat, sunglasses)Remember that children burn more easilyThen use factor 50+ sunscreen

Our sun protection policy is attached. Your support is very important if our policy is going to work. You can help by:

• talking to your child about the importance of sun protection at home• sending your child to school with a sun hat and sunglasses• applying sunscreen to your child

Working together we can ensure that your child stays ‘SMART’ in the sun.

• School uniformChildren should wear school colours - royal blue sweatshirt/hoodie/cardigan, white polo shirt and grey or black bottoms. I’d like to thank you for your support with this matter. Please do not send your child to school in jeans or football colours. All jewellery should be removed for PE days.

Could you please also ensure your child’s clothing has his/her name on it

• Our new school handbook is available to view on our website - http://www.lamington-pri.s-lanark.sch.uk/handbook.htm

• HeadliceIt is good practice to check your child’s hair regularly. Further information can be found at http://www.healthscotland.com/uploads/documents/25-HeadLice.pdf
