MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Great news for our school After a recent visit to our school from the Brisbane Water Director of Educational Leadership, Mr Chris Bice and Executive Director of Regional North Operation, Mr Tim McCallum, our school was one of 3 primary schools on the Central Coast selected to participate at a Regional Director’s Conference, outlining the strategies behind our excellent progress in recent years and in particular, how we have established a positive culture of learning and wellbeing here at WWS. We as a school community have worked very hard on developing pride and positivity at our school in many different areas and I would like to publicly thank the staff for the commitment and passion they have shown towards this work. I would also like to thank all of you, the students, parents, grandparents and carers for supporting us in the quest to make our school a great place to learn and work. speak with your child’s classroom teacher and from that they can determine whether the issue can be solved at that level or if further assistance can be provided by senior executive staff. Your cooperation with this is greatly appreciated. Works Notification Attached to this newsletter is a works notification from School Infrastructure NSW. The large majority of the work, mainly roofing, will all take place when students are not at school i.e. weekends and school holidays. Have a great week everyone, Matt Barr Principal

Positive Behaviour For Learning The PBL focus for Week 6 is ‘Accepting Authority’. This means always following an adult’s instructions. When accepting authority, students should listen to the teacher and do what is asked without arguing. It is also important to allow others to listen to the teacher without interruption. Accepting authority allows for intentional learning and positive classroom experiences across all Stages at Woy Woy South. The PBL Team Library News Book Fair 2020 Dear parents and carers, Congratulations Woy Woy South on a spectacular turn out to our Enchanted Forest Book fair. We have out done ourselves once again beating the total amount ever earned at book fair this year, to utilise as funds for our Library! The students, parents and I had a fantastic time enjoying our 2-week book fair. Thank you to my student helpers who were dedicated and organised and more than happy to be involved and a big congratulations to Zoe of 3/4M for winning our Gummy Bear guessing competition with an exact guess of 372! Miss Nelson Teacher Librarian K-6 Mufti Day - Wednesday 11th March 2020 On Wednesday the 11th of March, Kindergarten will be having their annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic. We would like to invite all students K-6 to wear Mufti and bring a Gold Coin Donation. The money raised will be donated to Westmead Children’s Hospital. This charity has been chosen as a number of our students are currently visiting Westmead for treatments on a regular basis. Pi Day Pi Day is celebrated every year on the 14th of March around the world. Not only is it the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, but it’s also the 16th letter in the Greek alphabet (π). This year our school will celebrate Pi Day on Friday 13th March with a Pi scavenger hunt and a competition to see who can recite the most digits of Pi. Start practising reciting Pi now. Good luck mathematicians.

SCHOOL BANKING

Getting involved in School Banking is easy. All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youth saver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:

1. Online

Visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youth saver account.

2. In branch

Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate.

If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youth saver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.

School Banking day is Friday. Each week you need to fill out the bank book and hand it to your teacher first thing in the morning.

If you would like to know more about School Banking, please visit www.commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
