1 Tel: 9948 2257 Fax: 9907 0342 Relieving Principal’s Report Welcome back! We would particularly like to welcome the Dolganova family (Alexander in 3F), the Kuchuk family (Artem in 4B and Andrea in 6M), the Ray family (Theo in 1D and Audrey in 4B), and Ladislas de Fombelle in 6M. It is wonderful to see all our students return looking refreshed and smartly dressed in winter uniform. It is also wonderful to return to some more freshly painted internal walls thanks to our General Assistant, Mr Phil Perks and polished floors in the Kindergarten and Year One block, thanks to our Cleaner in Charge, Theresa Smuts. We do ask parents and students to take care walking on the polished floors outside the Kindergarten and Year One classrooms during wet weather as they can become slippery. During the holiday break, maintenance and upgrade works were carried out. External painting continues and our electrical upgrade is almost complete. During the electrical upgrade a panel of asbestos in the K-2 BASC room was thought to be damaged and as a precautionary measure and to ensure students’ safety, the room has been closed until a clearance certificate is provided. No student has been affected. An inspection by qualified personnel tested the area for asbestos material. We have been notified verbally that there was no airborne material; however, the area will remain closed to students, staff and community members until we receive clearance from a qualified tradesperson. Throughout the process the Department of Education guidelines have been followed as student safety is of the highest importance. If parents have any concerns please contact me so that I can provide an accurate clarification of any questions. Students in K-2 who use this room for Before and After School Care have been temporarily relocated. A separate note has been communicated to parents of these children. Following on from our guest speaker’s presentation at both our K-2 and 3-6 assemblies regarding Plastic Free July, we are encouraging our students and parents to help reduce the amount of plastic used daily. For example we could consider reducing plastic wrapping used in lunch boxes, at fruit break and recess or even in the weekly grocery shopping. On Monday, both our teaching and admin staff participated in professional learning. Our teaching staff shared best practice in Mathematics, Technology and Visible Learning. It was great that some of our day to day casuals were able to join us for the day. On Wednesday 27 th July, we invite parents of K-2 students to attend a Mathematical Workshop in 6M and 6T from 9:30 -10:30am. This is a ‘hands on’ workshop where parents will participate in early numeracy activities that your children are taught in the classroom. Parents who have previously attended these sessions have found them beneficial to assist understanding of how Mathematics is taught today. All parents are welcome to attend; however, the workshop will focus on strategies taught in K-2. The following Wednesday, 3 rd August, we will hold another Mathematical Workshop, where the focus will be on the toolkit of strategies that students learn from Years 2 - 6. This workshop will be in the Toone Room from 9:30 -10:30am. Congratulations to Mrs Seon Peberdy and her children, Indi and Cali Sanders who won the lucky door ticket out of 3000 issued at the Northern Beaches Instrumental Music Festival. Ms Penny Coucill, our Band Director, was thrilled to choose a shiny new Jupiter alto saxophone as the winning prize for our school band program. This afternoon, a representative from Jupiter will present the saxophone to the band. Student News Congratulations to the Manly West Ski Team for their outstanding efforts representing our school during the holidays. Please see details on page 3. Congratulations to Matthew Godfrey in 5B who has been selected to represent Manly Warringah Gymnastics Club at the Mens’ National Gymnastics Clubs Championships in Victoria this September. All Australian schools will collect data on their students who are receiving adjustments to meet additional learning and support needs in accordance with their obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and Disability Standards for Education 2005. Manly West Before & After School Care

Manly West Before & After School Care

Welcome back for Term 3!

Ratings and Assessment Visits this Week Manly West BASC gained its initial Accreditation in 2006 and again in 2008 and 2010 under the National Childcare Accreditation Council. In 2012, the National Quality Framework was established to replace this system and applies to most Education and Care services.

The purpose of the NQF is to raise quality and drive continuous improvement and consistency in settings caring for children and the next stage in the process for us is the Ratings and Assessment visit. An Assessor will visit our Centre early next term, to give us the opportunity to demonstrate how we meet the National

Quality Standards and Regulation requirements.

We have submitted our Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) which allows us to reflect on our practices and explore ways to improve the service and care we provide. If you have any questions, comments or feedback,

or would like to view our QIP (a copy is available at the Centre) please contact us on 9948 8113 or

[email protected] or visit the Centre in person. We would also appreciate your feedback and comments on our Program in our ‘Evaluation Books’, located near sign in/out area in each room. More information on the National Quality Framework can be found at www.acecqa.com.au Thank you and wish us luck!
