It is the medias bad to blow up the opinion of asmall percentage of the people regardingreservations.

Reservations and development go hand in hand.

The south Indian experience is a classicalexample. Cities like Chennai, Bangalore have

become more modern centers because of theparticipation of lower castes in all marketscompared to Delhi and Kolkatta

    [9]. In India,

reservations provide a smooth transformation ofthe caste-centered system and allows for equalsharing of resources. Instead, if the upper caste

is going to continue their attacks, the nation willhave to get ready to face violent struggles as theNepal Maoist movement or the civil strife in Parisin 2005. The upper caste intellectuals who haveoccupied the majority of academic, administrativeand executive positions, including over 95percent of the appellate judicial positions haventreally produced any major changes in the

proportional growth of the nation. Proportional

growth does not refer to GDP but to the state ofordinary man. Rich getting richer is not growth

but improvement in state of ordinary man isgrowth. As Ilaiah

[8]puts it, where does the Indian

upper caste merit stand compared to the merit ofChina where the former working class (aka lowercaste) occupied all key positions after the

revolution and successfully developed scienceand technology through self reliance.

Reservations are a mode to avoid social unrestbased on casteism. It is reported that individualscoming from village level caste communities haveenormous common sense and logical thinking butno exposure to institutional education

    [8].

Reservations provide the chance for these minds

to get exposed to systematic thinking andanalysis. The guided energy of these individualmight show exceptional talent in discovering newways of doing things that could enhance theknowledge base of the nation. In conclusion, reservations for OBCs are important for theabove cited reasons like education for all, efficiency, equality and the proportional growth of

the nation. But they should be adopted seriously

    and applied properly.
