Mission Statement

Our MissionOur MissionOur MissionOur Mission is to promote the growth and development of the

community through the study, practice and performance of

music. We believe that by investing in the development of children

through music they become ambassadors of peace, hope and

understanding among people of diverse cultures, backgrounds and

beliefs.

Introduction

Renaissance Institute of Music is an El Sistema-inspired orchestra

program, and especially seeks to meet the needs of the underserved

families and youth of our community by empowering the cooperative

pursuit of excellence through musical learning and performance.

It is by providing inspirational musical learning and leadership

experiences, tuition-free, that we develop the capacity of our

community to contribute to our young people’s growth, joy and well-

being.

What is the cost of this program for families?

We provide free music instruction, sheet music, materials, and the

loan of instruments for your student. For the 2019-2020 year, there

is only a $30.00 Registration Fee per student.

However, the true cost of this program for our families is in giving of

their time, effort, and responsibility:

Requirements:

1. Students in New, Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced

Intermediate groups shall attend at least one class at their

level in the after-school hours, unless they are receiving

additional instruction during the week in another program or

from a private teacher. Advanced Students are those who have

completed all of the levels in the Belwin String Builder Book One

required to take weekday classes. The purpose of after-school

classes is to empower students to progress on their

instrument.

ability, sound production and learning of repertoire. New,

Beginner, and Intermediate students are expected to advance to

the next level after two semesters. Those who will not pass the

audition for such transition may be dismissed from the program.

The third semester in the same level class can be arranged in

exceptional cases, but no student will be allowed to stay in the

same level class for the fourth time. Audition requirements are

listed for the currently available ensembles:

RIOM Absence/Tardy Policies

* Any student reaching the maximum may be asked to turn in their

instrument and materials and may be dismissed from the program.

** Student is tardy if they did not arrive 10 minutes before the class

or rehearsal begins.

*** Student is marked absent if they arrive more than 10 minutes

after the class or rehearsal begins. Students arriving later than 10

minutes may not be seated and must wait until they receive

permission from the conductor, because late seating interrupts the

rehearsal, and is disrespectful to those who have arrived on time and

are ready to rehearse.

musicians are representatives of the organization, and the behavior

and dress of each musician reflects upon the entire group. It is

essential to respect the rights and property of others.

We count on all participants to use common sense in avoiding

situations and behavior that would put themselves or anyone else at

risk, cause problems for the group, or adversely affect the safety,

performance and enjoyment of all.

RIOM strictly enforces a zero tolerance policy with regards to the

use of drugs and alcohol, smoking, any other illegal activities, and any

form of harassment towards students and staff.

Things To Remember

Productive rehearsals and concerts require each and every player’s

attendance and full participation. We believe that the difference

between a good performance and a great one lies in the commitment

of every single member to attendance, preparedness, and excellence.
