Pages 24 & 25: Scientists make quantitative and qualitative observations. They then make inferences based on those observations. They use the observations as empirical evidence.

Vocabulary.”

Vocabulary …Observation: any information collected with the senses. When we observe, we record what is seen, smelled, tasted, heard and touched.

Qualitative: is a description of something's properties. It can't be measured. "The apple is red."

Quantitative: is a measureable description using quantity or amount. “The apple weighs 125 grams.” “There are three apples.”

Inference: a conclusion based on observations. Inferences go beyond what we can directly sense. You use experience, reasoning and logic to make an inference.

Empirical evidence: information acquired by observation or experimentation.
