GERMANY

• 30 years war was from 1618-1648

• It began in Bohemia (Czech Republic)

• Fought between Protestants and Catholics

• Protestant princes in Germany resisted the rule of Catholic Monarchs

• Peasants war began in Germany (1525)

• Started because Luther showed peasants how unhappy they were

• They revolted against the nobility

• 70,000-100,000 peasants were killed

ITALY• Controlled by Spain (Charles V)

• Italy was mostly Catholic, but had some Protestants

• 1545- leader of the Catholic Church got together in Northern Italy City of Trent

• To talk about the corruptions and how to gain more power against the Protestants

• After the Council of Trent more holy orders were established by the Catholic Church

• Pope Paul III gave approval to Ignatius of Loyola

• Ignatius of Loyola is the founder of the Jesuits (Society of Jesus)

• The Jesuits is a Catholic Holy Order

• There mission is to reconvert other small and large heretics

• Another Holy Order is called The Roman Inquisition establish in 1542

• There goal was to suppress Lutheranism (Another Catholic heresy)
