Nothing beats local knowledge

About this guide

© Dubbo Regional Council 2017.

Disclaimer: This Guide is a collaboration between industry and local government from the communities of Dubbo, Gilgandra, Mudgee, Narromine, Nyngan, Warren, Warrumbungles and Wellington. It was developed with funding from the Murray Darling Energise Enterprise Fund.

Dubbo Regional council are proud to support environmental sustainability and regional business in the production of this publication. Print supply by Progress Printing Condobolin. Paper sourced from sustainable sources.

Regional Platters is an agricultural trail guide that has been developed to connect producers in the central west with a range of markets including the group visitor market, investors and special interest groups. In showcasing the diversity, quality and creativity of the produce across seven local government areas, this guide is a tool for tour operators, government agencies and agriculture and tourism industry stakeholders.

Regional Platters will assist in the development and delivery of informative, exciting and authentic visitor experiences for groups. Importantly, it will also act as a platform to support the business diversification of participating producers.

Group tour organisers can contact any of the operators listed on pages 21 – 22 for set tour options or for the creation of a personalised ‘Regional Platters’ tour. Alternatively, group tour organisers can create their own itinerary by contacting the producers in this Guide directly. On page 24 there is also a list of Visitor Information Centres available to provide local insight and information to support group tours to the region.

WelcomeSituated in the heart of New South Wales, the central west region produces an extensive range of high quality products which are enjoyed locally and exported globally. From the cotton and wool we wear, to the juices and wine we drink, and the fruits and meats we enjoy; local producers in the central west are throwing open the farm gates to share the story of their products.

There are a number of regionally based tour operators ready to assist special interest or visitor groups to gain an insight into how functioning farms operate, including the various manufacturing processes along with the opportunity to sample and purchase great local products. Alternatively, organisers can liaise directly with producers to coordinate their own group ‘paddock-to-plate’ itinerary.

Discover the central west’s contribution to the local and global food bowl including how producers have overcome adversity and driven innovation. Hear the stories and enjoy a range of hands-on experiences. Pick five different cherry varieties directly off the tree, get eye-to-eye with a mob of 800 emus, watch a shearing display, tour a distillery and taste the whisky or learn how to cook the perfect omelette after choosing eggs from the nest.

With generations of farming history, the local producers in this guide have farming in their veins. Proud of their heritage, passionate about their product and positive about their future they can’t wait to share their story.
