FIRST PROJECT:
March 2011 will be our 50th Competition in Region 10. I‘m re-
searching our Competition Themes and have gotten many from the old scrapbooks and from my own collection of programs. I
do need additional help in tracking down some of the themes
from the early years. I‘ll list the years and if anyone has that
information, please let me know by email.
1962 - I have ―Musical View‖ but I‘m not sure about that one.
1974 - I have ―All American City‖ but I‘m not sure about that
one either. I didn‘t always have programs for all of the years and
had to rely on newspaper articles and regional newsletters. I am
missing the themes from the following years: 1963; 1964; 1965;
1966; 1969; 1976; 1980.
SECOND PROJECT:
Charlene Cummings has donated a set of 8x10 color photo-
graphs from the 1981 competition. Any monies collected from
the sale of these ―vintage‖ photos will be given to Region 10's
YWIH fund. I‘m asking that you donate $5.00 per photo for this

Two Special Projects
Need Your Help! By Vickie Dennis, Region 10 Education Co-
ordinator
Our Winter Regional Meeting will be held
January 14-15, 2011, at the Houston Green-spoint Marriott with Tomi McEvoy (baritone
from A Cappella Gold, the Immediate Past
President of the Coronet Club, a member of
the International faculty, a certified director,
an approved candidate judge and a vocal
coach) as Guest Faculty. Tomi has been in our region before . .
. when we had all four members of A Cappella Gold! She is an
avid quartet singer and a dynamic teacher and performer. You
will really enjoy being in her classes and learning from her.
For years we have given our quartets some attention by provid-
ing the opportunity for coaching at each regional event, but we have not provided the focused education they need to increase
their performance level. This workshop will focus on the quartet
as a performing entity. We will have open coaching, a full range
of classes on performance – from selecting costumes to selecting
music to walking on stage to performing for the local Rotary

Alamo Metro Chorus
San Antonio, TX With summer vacations nearing an end,
the Alamo Metro Chorus is gearing up for
some heavy duty ―buckling down‖ in our
final preparations for International Com-
petition. But it wasn‘t all work and no
play for us this summer! In July, we en-
joyed our annual chorus pool party at the
home of director Mary Ann Wydra. It
was a fun filled day of eating, drinking,
swimming and of course, singing!
In August, we were thrilled to perform for the McDonald‘s Corporation Regional
Awards Gala. By request, we performed
our 60‘s package along with some special
arrangements of various popular jingles
made famous in McDonald‘s commer-
cials over the years. In addition to our
60‘s garb, some members were outfitted
in vintage McDonald‘s uniforms, which
was a big hit with the audience. We fin-
ished up that week with a great coaching
session with Ruth Ann Parker and had the
good fortune to benefit from an im-promptu coaching with Rosemary
Calderon, who happened to be in town. In
the next few weeks, we will be traveling
to Kerrville, TX for our weekend retreat
with Ruth Ann Parker.
We will also be presenting our send off
Dinner/Show on October 9, at St. John
Neumann‘s Hall here in SA. The show
will feature the chorus, chapter quartets,
Men‘s Collegiate Barbershop Quartet ―Varsity‖ and ―Premiere,‖ a MacArthur
High School girls group directed by our
own Caitlyn Griffith. For more info,
c h e c k ou t ou r we b s i t e a t

nately, with all these commitments along
with our upcoming trip to Seattle, the
chorus will not be able to perform at the
Fall Regional weekend. Many of us will
be in attendance and look forward to
singing with our area school chorus.
Last but not least, Alamo Metro would
like to send our best wishes to Oasis,
Lone Star and Spirit of Southeast cho-
ruses. We are excited to be sharing this
International experience with you all! Go
Region 10!

Baton Rouge Chorus
Baton Rouge, LA
The Baton Rouge Chorus is celebrating
50 years and had a wonderful anniversary party on September 26 with anyone who
sang with, directed, coached, listened to,
or supported us in any way! The recep-
tion included anecdotes, scrapbook and
costume displays, DVD showings of
competition and show performances, the
fellowship of current and former Sweet
Adelines and, of course, singing!
The Baton Rouge Chorus has been busy
enhancing our sound by re-voicing some members, naming new section leaders,
and getting coaching from Janie Macchi-
aroli, Darlene Rogers, and Pat LeVuzu.
We've also been adding a dash of fun to
our rehearsals with monthly birthday
celebrations. Pictured here are our August
birthday girls -- Cindy Stevens, Patty
Nance, Virginia Simoneaux, and our
newest member, Angela Dunn -- with
their crowns and scepters. Angela came
to us with her beautiful bass voice by way
of an LSU Leisure Class which we have
offered the last three summers.
Our Sweet Adeline Extraordinaire is An-
nie Michelle. Annie is a relatively new
member who also came to us by way of
the Leisure Class. She adds enthusiam
and a beautiful voice to the chorus. (She
even got a solo!) Annie organizes and
distributes our music, sends cards to cho-
rus members on special occasions, and, being a retired police officer, leaves re-
hearsal last each night, assuring every-
one's safety!

Bayou Blend Chorus
Lafayette, LA
Bayou Blend begins fall and holiday cal-
endar events, raffle sales, plans for a
spring show, Christmas chorus, Christmas
concert, new music and moving ahead to
2011 toward contest!
Sound like a very busy Fall into Spring
doesn‘t it..and a lot of that was inspired
by our ever-planning Management Team
and an enthusiastic Director.
The Chorus just had an injection of en-
thusiasm by Darlene Rogers who gave the
Chorus many things to think about and
put into action both vocally and mentally.
Now we are all looking forward to having Vickie Dennis in November following
her quartet‘s appearance on the Interna-
tional stage in Seattle. ―Best of luck‖ to
them and to all of Region #10‘s competi-
tors there!
The Chorus has had a wealth of coaching
these past few weeks. Melody White
from Rich Tone Chorus really made us
aware of facial expressions in a way that
made us all aware of our own responsi-
bilities in that area..hope everyone takes that to the ―bank‖! From Houston Hori-
zon, Kellie Gareri worked with many
areas of barbershop singing and like Mel-
ody and Darlene made us all aware of
personal responsibility which is the ―key‖
to success in a chorus. Most importantly,
our director, JP Poirier, has followed
through with reminders each week of the
valuable information we all received!
Each week our Music Team selects four parts to sing for the Chorus as a quartet
which serves us all in entertainment as
well as an inspiration to be ―performance
ready‖ each week.
Several of us were at the Fall Regional
Meeting..ready to share in the knowledge

Chisholm Trail Chorus
Temple, Texas
Is it really September already? Wonder-
ing where your summer went? Well Chis-
holm Trail has been working at a steady
pace side by side with Texas Harmony
preparing for our October shows. We will
perform on Friday, October 15 in Dallas
and Saturday, October 16 in Temple.
Along this journey we have enjoyed com-bined rehearsals and extra coaching op-
portunities.
The consensus has been that the high
point so far was our combined retreat in
Salado at the end of August where Sylvia
Alsbury coached each chorus separately
and then the combined 70 voice chorus
and in the process coached both Darlene
and Carol. The interaction between the three of them was a real treat to watch.
We are very lucky to have two fabulously
organized co-directors retreat coordina-
tors in Janet Brown and Marlene Snare.
So much fun and good fellowship along
with the hard work made the weekend
very rewarding. In addition we have en-
joyed coaching visits by regional favor-
ites, Sheri Strawther and Xanna William-
son, who are helping us work on our con-
test set for the spring. Many of us partici-pated in the fab weekend in Houston with
Tori Postma this month at the Fall Re-
gional Meeting.
And if all the hard work paying off in our
performances isn‘t enough to keep a cho-
rus happy, membership growth certainly
is the icing on the cake. We have wel-
comed several new members over the
summer months and are guiding addi-
tional guests through the discernment
process. Watch out Region 10, we are on a roll!

Cradle of Texas Chorus
Sugar Land, TX
For the past several months we have been
learning several new songs and working
on contest music. We had an addition to
our bass section. Connie Singleton joined
us in July and we are so proud to have
her. In August we invited ladies to sing
Christmas music with us. Eight ladies have been singing with us since the first
of August. Two have joined -- Nichole
Lenfesty and her daughter Alexandra
Lenfesty. Alexandra is 16 and she loves
our barbershop. She is the youngest mem-
ber ever to belong to our chorus. She and
her mom are very talented. We are enjoy-
ing singing with all these ladies and hope-
fully the remaining 6 will decide to join
us. At Christmas time, all these ladies,
members or not, will be singing with us as we sing for events around our town.

Crescent City Sound Chorus
New Orleans, LA
As I write this article, we have just re-
turned for our retreat with our long time
coach and emergency director, Mary Beth
McMurray. What a wonderful weekend
we had! The theme was---Saints. We all
dressed in our very best Saints attire and had our very own replica of the Lombardi
trophy.
Mary Beth worked on some of our show
music. We moved our show from October
to June because we were unable to use
our regular auditorium. We were unable
to find a comparable site. The only solu-
tion seemed to be to continue to learn our
new music as if the show was scheduled
in October. We will also work on Christ-mas music and contest music at the same
time. After contest, we will have 10
weeks to brush up our show music.
That is the bad news. The good news is
that this gave us an opportunity to intro-
duce our competition songs much earlier
than we have in the past. If this works out
for us, this will be something we will
continue in the future.
As much fun as it is to work on perfecting
our craft, the real fun comes on Saturday
night when we put on a chorus talent show. Some people astounded us with
their hidden talents. Others just knock us
off our seats with their hilarious routines.
The talent in this chorus is definitely not
limited to just singing.
While on retreat, we celebrated Mary
Beth‘s and Molly McGee‘s birthdays. We
also presented Holly DiDomenico with
our Sweet Adeline Extraordinaire award.
We continue to perform in our commu-
nity. This summer we learned ―When the
Saints Go Marching In.‖ Our wonderful
director, JoAnn Fernon, wrote some new
words to credit the Saints on their Super
Bowl win--Who dat! We get a fantastic
response from the audience every time we
perform it.

Fiesta City Chorus
San Antonio, TX We had a wonderful time singing at Folk
Life Festival, we made new friends and
even got handed orchids. July found us
singing for the Founders Lions Club, the

sang along with every song they knew the
words to and even got to do the "Eagle
Rock" with us. We are now working very
hard for our stage production in Novem-ber. It will be full of music from Tin Pan
Alley.

Houston Horizon Chorus
Houston, TX
When the trees their summer splendor
Change to raiment red and gold,
When the summer moon turns mellow,
And the nights are getting cold;
When the squirrels hide their acorns, And the woodchucks disappear
Then we know that it is autumn,
Loveliest season of the year.
~Charlotte L. Riser
Houston Horizon had its annual retreat
weekend at Galveston‘s Moody Gardens.
What an amazing time we had! From
music theory, breathing modules, sec-
tional work, front row auditions, a look at
our new website (check it out for yourself at www.houstonhorizon.org), a Q &A and
informational session with our chorus
Management Team and classes on visual
performance, the education opportunities
were abundant.
And if all of this wasn‘t fun enough, we
were able to fit in a late night dessert buf-
fet (mmmm!), a pool side performance
for resort guests and visitors (see picture),
a lip synch contest (it is always amazing to see the seemingly endless talent and
creativity of our members) and a Saturday
night ―pool‖ party (unfortunately, the
pool had already closed by the time most
of us got there, but that didn‘t stop us
from moving it inside).
Sunday morning, Vickie set aside some
time for ―Christmas in August,‖ where
we started learning some new music for
our annual Christmas concert to be held
on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Grace Presbyterian Church. We welcome
you to join us by October 2, 2010 if you
are interested in performing on stage with
HHC for this concert.
We also encourage you to consider join-
ing HHC as a dual member as we prepare
for International 2011 here in Houston! If
you were at the Regional meeting with
Tori Postma, the details regarding expec-
tations for dual members joining us on
this journey were made available. You ma y also visi t our websi t e
(www.houstonhorizon.org) or contact
Sally Ison, our Member Services Man-
ager ([email protected] ) for further
information. We would love to share this
experience and its memories with our
sisters in harmony!
Some other exciting opportunities for us
this fall include coaching sessions with
Joe Connelly and Dale Syverson, support-ing Oasis, Alamo Metro, Spirit of South-
east Texas and Lone Star Choruses as
they head to Seattle to compete at SAI
International Convention, as well as sing-
ing (again) the National Anthem at an
upcoming Rocket‘s game and a perform-
ance prior to a TUTS (Theater Under the
Stars) production.
So while here in Houston, the nights may
not yet be getting cold, and the leaves
may not be turning to red and gold, re-flecting ahead on all that we have to look
forward to this fall, there is most certainly
something quite lovely about this time of
year.

Lone Star Chorus
Fort Worth, TX
What an exciting time ahead in Seattle,
three fabulous choruses and an amazing
quartet representing Region 10, the first time the region has had representation in
all levels at International. Only a few
weeks away, where has the time gone?!
The summer has flown by for Lone Star
with all the great coaching by Becky Lar-
sen, Scottsdale, Becky Bartlett, Rich
Tones, Ruth Ann Parker, Rich Tones, and
of course Kim Hulbert who coached us
before regional and coached us at our
Retreat mid-September. The chorus had 2
-a-week rehearsals in September to be sure we represent Region 10 to the best
we can. You don‘t want to miss our per-
formance, either on site if you are there,
or via Webcam, it‘s one of our most crea-
tive. Take a nap during the day on Tues-
day if you can but be sure to catch us at
9:30 pm Seattle and 11:30 pm Texas
time, the best will be last at Harmony
Classic.
Lone Star also made time for laughter and
bonding at what we hope will be an an-nual pool party. We ate, we laughed, we
swam, we shared time with our families
and we sang barbershop. What could be
better than that? We also found time to
support a national blood drive by per-
forming at Hulen Mall in Fort Worth that
was sponsored by the Texas Millionaires
Men‘s Chorus.
Lone Star wishes all Seattle competitors the Best of Luck, travel safely and have a
great time, we will!

Magic Valley Chorus
McAllen, TX
Magic Valley Chorus in the summer is
small but mighty, as we recently proved.
When our esteemed Team Leader, Janet
Doyle, was incarcerated at Outback Steak
House for the Muscular Dystrophy Asso-ciation's Fund Raiser, and was just a little
short on her "Bail", we wonderful, heroic
Barbershop Singers came to her rescue.
Surely it was our beautiful music that got
her over the top and out of jail! Both the
Chorus and M.D.A. were the happy bene-
ficiaries.

Fall 2010 Tune In With Ten Page 5
With about half our members on L.O.A.,
the rest of us have been meeting joyously
to dust off old favorites for next year's
repertoire, learning a few new songs, and
honing the skills that earned us our acco-lades at Competition last March. Many of
us attended the Summer Area School in
San Antonio and returned with renewed
enthusiasm for our chosen hobby.
We have enjoyed the pleasure of several
visitors this summer, and are pleased to
welcome Isabella Waldschmidt as our
newest member, a great Lead, and a very
spirited asset to our group. She attended
the Fall Regional Workshop, along with several others, and we expect her to find
it a wonderful learning experience just as
we always do.
Then we'll be looking forward to the re-
turn of our Director, Gary Lewallen, who
will lead us into our new and busy sea-
son, and our Winter Texans, who will
have much to share with us, especially
those who will be competing in Interna-
tional in Seattle. Our heartfelt best wishes
go with them. By Shirley Valentine, TIWT Correspon-

Panther City Chorus
Fort Worth, TX
Panther City Chorus is busy preparing for
its second annual show. The chorus will
present ―Hats Off to Harmony,‖ an after-
noon tea, fashion show and musical
showcase at 2 pm on October 2. A limited
number of tickets are available.
Of course, the end of the show signals the
beginning of preparation for the Holiday
Season, and Panther City will begin re-
freshing its Christmas music repertoire
almost as soon as the last chord of the
show rings.
And, after the Holiday Season, comes
―Preparing for Competition‖ Season!
Charlotte has selected the chorus‘s com-
petition music, and Panther City has be-gun the process of learning and perfecting
her selections. This year‘s goal, as al-
ways, is to improve upon last year‘s per-
formance.
Visitors are always welcome to visit cho-
rus rehearsals, which are held on Thurs-
days at 7pm at Handley Baptist Church,

Sparkling City Chorus
Corpus Christi, TX
This summer the chorus welcomed new
member Carole Durch who came to us by
way of Region 7 where she was a charter
member of the Emerald City Chorus in
Wichita. Carole sings baritone and we‘re
really glad she moved to Corpus Christi.
We sadly said good-bye to Amaris Wal-
ters, who moved to the Dallas area to continue her education.
On August 22 we were again invited to
perform at Jackson Woods Presbyterian
church for their annual barbeque. We
always love singing for a very apprecia-
tive audience and for a great supper.
We were very busy working on our an-
nual Fab Fun Fest performance and fund-
raiser, which was held on September 28.
The mini concert of Beatles and Beach Boys music was free to the public and our
raffle was chock-full of great prizes like
event tickets, restaurant and retail gift
certificates and cold cash.
On October 16 the chorus is thrilled to be
a part of Sing Out, South Texas at the
Performing Arts Center at Texas A & M
Corpus Christi. We will be participating
with six other community and college
choruses from Corpus Christi, Beeville, Kingsville and Victoria. Each choir will
perform music of their choosing and the
entire group will perform 2 songs to-
gether.
Our director search is continuing and any
interested applicants are urged to contact
Marianne Jackson at librairian-

and a resume form.

Spirit of SE Texas Chorus
Beaumont, TX
Spirit of Southeast Texas is busy working
on our first International package. We
recently had an all day rehearsal with
Sandi Wright. She is great at what she
does. There was a great turn-out to try out
for speaking or singing parts. Congrats to
the ones that made it.
Many of our chorus members haven't
even been to see International so, this trip will be very exciting to say the least. We
enjoyed our chance to do the package for
the regional weekend in September. We
also learned some great things during the
weekend to help with our last few weeks.
On Grandparents day we will do a sing
out which will be nice and fun. Going to
contest is great but it is such a joy to per-
form in public. We have a couple more
little sing outs coming soon. By Natalie Lockhart, TIWT Correspon-

Starlite Sound Chorus
Humble, TX
In an effort to reach younger potential
members, the Starlite Sound had a
―summer intern program,‖ which netted
us one new teenage member, plus two
more who are ―in process.‖ Our newest
member, Rachel Willis, joined along with
her mother Dee Willis. Our Guest Night in June generated a lot of interest and
we‘re hoping to recruit another mother/
daughter team after summer activities are
over and everyone gets ―Back in the Old
Routine.‖
As a result of Dee and Rachel joining us,
we have opened a new door – into the
home school network. In August the cho-
rus had a booth and performed at a
HEART event in Humble (home school fair). We made a lot of contacts there, and
we have received some positive phone
calls.
The Starlite Sound is taking Marketing
Mondays seriously – we try to find a new

place to post our flyers each month. We
have also developed a new marketing tool
– a recipe card with our chorus informa-
tion on the back. Every member is chal-lenged to post a flyer in a new place each
month and hand out at least one card a
week -- and Marketing Monday is our
monthly deadline.
We‘re looking forward to our fall activi-
ties – our Regional meeting in September
plus some coaching sessions, as well as learning some new Christmas music. And
we‘re hoping that some of the many seeds
we‘re planting will germinate and grow!

Texas Harmony Chorus
Irving, TX
A long time ago, in a land far away……
no…..wait….. oh, it was just last October
in Nashville! That‘s when Texas Har-
mony Chorus had the distinct honor of
representing Region 10 on the Harmony Classic stage. Our 31 members outdid
themselves to place 3rd in the Division A
chorus competition. We were SO ex-
cited…… and we still are!
Now, almost a full year later, we have
breaking news! Our good news, you ask?
The news is…..drum roll please!
Texas Harmony‘s numbers are DROP-
PING! Yes, you heard correctly.
Our once small chorus is GETTING
SMALLER and we are just loving it.
That‘s right, Texas Harmony is shedding
the pounds. Shortly after returning to Ir-
ving from Nashville, individual members
began various weight loss programs to
begin their new life. No one member
knew of the other‘s efforts until the first
of the year when we began to compare
notes. I had returned from a Leave Of
Absence and people noticed I had lost 25 lbs. Then, someone else said she had lost
30 lbs. One by one, the members came
forward to share their stories and we
found ourselves pulling together as an
even tighter team than we already were,
albeit smaller. Now, almost a year after
Nashville, Texas Harmony is proud to
announce that we boast 34 members and
have a cumulative weight loss of OVER
459 lbs! That‘s more than THREE
WHOLE PEOPLE! Ok, does that mean
we‘re back to 31 on stage?
Best wishes to Alamo Metro, Lone Star,
Spirit of SE Texas and Oasis in Seattle!

Voice Of Vermilion Chorus
Lafayette, LA
Congratulations to Jenny Best, our 2010
Sweet Adeline Extraordinaire!
―Broadway At Babe‘s Bistro‖ kept VOV quite busy during the last few months and
turned out to be a big success. Our guests
enjoyed both shows and, of course, the
cheesecake! Congratulations are in order
to our director Margaret Kresse, our show
chairman Bev Colomb, our show team,
and all chorus members who contributed
so much of their time, effort, and sales-
manship abilities to make the show not
only a good one but also a profitable one
for Voice of Vermilion.
In preparation for our show, coaching
was of the essence and having Darlene
Rogers and Bron Dixon to spur us on was
a treat. Coaching doesn‘t stop there! We
will welcome Vickie Dennis in mid-
November.
As of this writing, Bev Colomb is our
only member heading to Seattle in Octo-
ber. Pat Cotini has volunteered her out-
door space in November for another VOV Garage Sale. We anticipate several per-
formances to help to celebrate the holi-
days and, of course, our annual chorus
Christmas party is on tap in mid-
December.
Voice of Vermilion is looking forward to
seeing everyone again at the January
Winter Regional and then at our 50th
Competition in March 2011.

Prospective Heart of the Pines Chorus
Nacogdoches, TX
Nacogdoches, TX now has Prospective
Heart of the Pines Chorus. Our introduc-
tory meeting was May 24 and 20 women
showed up with curious anticipation.
Barb Feighner and Kathy Parker from the
Houston Horizon chorus and Sing It
Again quartet graciously came and as-
sisted the gala event. Two weeks later
regular rehearsals began.
Director, TJ Reed, is a Queen of Har-
mony (Shondells 1977), Certified Direc-
tor, former director of the Memphis City
Sound Chorus, Memphis, TN for 6 years,
and a Sweet Adeline for 40 years
First on the agenda was to purchase pro-
fessional signs to put in front of the re-
hearsal hall and driveway entrances.
These merely say ―Sweet Adelines‖ and
have an arrow to direct them. May seem trivial, but we think they have been ad-
vantageous.
Heart of the Pines is working hard to be-
come approved for singing for our public
as the men‘s Timbretones Chorus has
invited us to sing on their show Dec 4 &
5, and we have already received a per-
formance request for December 7. So we
have lots of tunes to learn…quickly.
Vickie Dennis, director Houston Horizon,
came to us July 8 for a coaching session
involving body alignment, breathing,
‗filling the space with sound‘. You know,
all those basics. TJ felt it was important
to have a session of this type in the early
stages of the new chorus to get everyone

would be a great class for YOU! There will also be sessions on how to put together a quartet if you don‘t have one yet. Have three
parts and are looking for one more? We‘ll have that. Are you a single looking for three more? We‘ll give you the opportunity to talk

real focus will be on the quartets in our region.
Registered quartets, non-registered quartets, competing quartets, non-competing quartets — we are focusing on YOU. Don‘t miss
out on this great opportunity. Everyone is welcome because there will be information and education that will benefit ALL.
INTENT TO ATTEND: If your quartet is planning on attending this great event, we would appreciate a quick note to [email protected] by October 15 so we can start working with the hotel to make sure we have all the space we need. We have 30+
registered quartets in Region 10. That would be 120 people if all attend. Plus, we expect many other folks coming to learn from the
material presented. This isn‘t a commitment OR a registration. It is just a note to let us know you intend to attend. It would really
help us plan better. Thanks for your help in getting a number in advance so we can plan accordingly.
Don‘t miss it! Registration forms will be available soon on the regional website.

on the same track…the right track.
Though a few of the original attendees have
decided they just don‘t have the time, it‘s not
for them, or something, seems new arrivals come each week. So we are maintaining the
20 member level. It‘s really great. They are all
great gals and really excited about this new art
form called Sweet Adelines.

Cross Country Quartet
Sheri Strawther, lead; Kerri
Mauney, bass; Pam Parish,
baritone; Carolyn Hudler, tenor
Now that we all seem to be back to
normal with our home life, we are
concentrating on our hobby. It has
been great to be able to freely get
together and sing without
worrying about other things. We're
working on new music and have
several coaching sessions lined up
between now and the end of the
year. Kerri's mother was honored
at her church for her years of
service. As part of the surprise,
Cross Country was there to sing
for her and the congregation. A
sandwich/home made ice cream
supper followed. Who cares about
the sandwiches, bring on the ice
cream--orange, strawberry and
vanilla!
We will be singing for all our
mothers in October at a birthday
party for Sheri's mom. In addition
to singing with Houston Horizon,
Carolyn and Pam sing with Spirit
of Southeast Texas Chorus and are
busy with competition plans for
Harmony Classic in Seattle. Sheri
will be trial judging in Seattle,
also. Poor Kerri has to stay home
and work.
Chordially Yours Quartet
Charlotte Hoffman, tenor; Pam
Lowrance, lead; Kelli Chou,
baritone; Bonnie Schuler, bass
Chordially Yours was active this
summer singing for various church
events. The nice thing about
churches is that they usually feed
you, and these events were no
exception – mm mm good.
Charlotte Hoffman, tenor, went to
Germany in September to
experience the Oberammergau
Passion Play, which originated in
1634 and is now staged only every
10 years. She‘ll make it home just
in time to direct Panther City‘s fall
show. Pam Lowrance, lead, has
gone back to school to become a
teacher. She‘s nervous and excited
all at the same time. Of course
we‘ll all help her in her studies
and her husband is thrilled to have
finally settled down with a
―college girl‖ after only 32 years
of marriage. This year Kelli Chou,
baritone, has officially become a
―soccer mom!‖ Yes, Joshua started
kindergarten and soccer this fall –
it seems like he was just born.
Bonnie Schu ler , bass, is
celebrating her 6th year cancer free
(woo-hoo!) and yet she still tries to
blame forgotten words and notes
on ―chemo brain.‖ Bonnie and
Kelli are headed to Seattle with
Lone Star to compete with the
other mid-size choruses in the
Harmony Classic. We wish them
all the best. Halten sie den
klingelton musik!!
Voila Quartet
Hilda Mancillas, tenor; Nancy
Bourell, lead; Bebe Caldwell,
baritone; Heather Harmon, bass
Greetings from Voilà! As a new
quartet, we are getting acquainted
and enjoying every minute. Each
personality; though very different,
adds something great to this unit.
Most of you know Hilda, Nancy
and Bebe, so we‘ll share a bit
about Heather, who is new to
Sweet Adelines. She is a Staff
Sergeant in our U.S. Army. She is
a bassoonist in the military band,
while her hubby Steve plays the
French horn. They are celebrating
their first anniversary of making
beautiful music together! She is
one terrific example of ―don‘t let
her size fool you‖. And that‘s all
we have to say about that.
We auditioned for Alamo Metro‘s
music staff on September 7 and
visited Austin Harmony in mid-
September for their guest night.
We‘re planning on performing a
song on AMC‘s Fall show…yay!
Our preparations for Regional
contest in March are going strong,
amid Nancy‘s world travels and
then moving from a crack house to
a trailer park (ask her), Hilda‘s
Parisian travel and busy work
s c he d u le , B e be ‘ s f a mi l y
obligations and Heather‘s band
schedule. Until January… Hilda,
Nancy, Bebe & Heather.
VocalEyes Quartet
Karla Fenton, tenor; Jodi Ceaser,
lead; Dixie Goro, baritone; Wendy
Wright, bass

acquired a new member! We are
now humming along to the driving

beat of our new bass, HHC
member Wendy Wright. By
August we had our matching
socks, plus a couple of really fun
songs that we are almost ready to
perform for you!
Speaking of driving, in September
we will be warming up our voices
and our golf swings in anticipation
of knocking ‗em dead (not
l it era l ly) at t he Houston
Tidelanders Chorus (BHS) First
Annual Go lf Out ing. The
VocalEyes Fearsome Foursome
wil l no doubt return to
harmonizing immediately after – if
not during – the tournament. Fore!
Our wish for all of you: peace and
harmony in the coming months.
Our advice: ―VocalEyes‖ daily!
Felicity Quartet
Patty Nance, tenor; Angela
Villemarette, lead; Celia Kenney,
baritone; Dee Mayeaux, bass
So much has happened since we
saw you in the spring. Contest was
a bit scary, but so much fun. We'd
like to thank all of you for being
so supportive.
Between vacations, a grandbaby, a
double knee replacement, and
other assorted family adventures
we found a wee bit of time to have
a blast at the library; actually 6
libraries. We were honored to be
invited as part of the Jefferson
Parish and the Livingston Parish
Summer Reading Program, Laugh
Out Loud. We sang funny songs
and taught the kids (and moms)
about 4 part a-capella harmony.
The very best part was having
them learn to sing harmony with
us! Whew, lots of kids, lots of
laughter; highly recommend it in
small doses.
Our latest adventure was a way
down south to Houma, La and the
Crescent City Sound retreat
weekend. We had a great time
singing for and with the chorus.
I'm afraid to say anything else
(you know how they are). On Sept
26 we headed way up north to help
celebrate Baton Rouge Chorus'
50th Anniversary. Being a part of
both choruses has made for lots of
great memories for all of us.
Prelude Quartet
June Deiser, baritone; Lisa Deiser,
bass; Paula Chrisman, tenor
June, Lisa and Paula are hanging
out for now but will soon be
looking to fill that lead spot and be
in competition mode come Spring!
Good luck to all our Seattle
competitors. We applaud each and
every one!

Start Planning Now For Wall Of Fame And Scrapbook Pages By Karen Bernard, Region 10 Historian I know that it’s early but I wanted to give everyone the information about Scrapbook Pages & the Eighteenth Annual Wall of Fame. (It’s hard to believe that we’ve had our wonderful Wall of Fame that many years!) Packets containing pertinent information for each chorus historian and chorus president/team leader will be given out at the January Regional Meeting at the Chapter Leaders Fo-rum. Any packets not picked up will be mailed to chorus presidents/team leaders for distribution. I encourage all choruses to honor one special member on the “Year 2011” Wall of Fame and to sub-
mit an entry in the Regional Scrapbook Contest for 2010-2011. Be sure to visit the Historian’s tables at the Regional Boutique at most meetings and at contest. You’ll find lots of snapshots and chorus/quartet photos for sale at very reasonable prices and many for free (or make a donation). Some Re-gion 10 scrapbooks are on display as well as the Region’s Chorus and Quartet Champion Albums. My contact information is: (home address) 841 HWY 182; Sunset LA 70584. My phone numbers, fax & e-mail address follow: (h) 337-662-3247; (fax) 337-662-2274; (e-mail) [email protected]
