Region Calculator (RegCalc)
Overview
Purpose
RegCalc is a VIP post-processing application. It is a powerful analysistool which lets you generate region reports for areas not initially
defined as IREGIONs. You can obtain reports for selected timesteps based on the frequency of the WMAP card which is defined in the
simulation file. The region reports in RegCalc contain the followinginformation:
• Pressure weighted by Total and HC Pore Volume
• Fluids-In-Place
• Average Fluid Saturation
A region can be defined in the following ways:
• Define IREGION and XREG cards in the initialization file.
• Define the I, J, K range for the selected grid within the Region
Calculator.
• Import an ASCII file (*.xreg) which contains information about
the XREG. This option could be used when the XREGions areknown but were not defined in the initialization file.
Region definitions can be saved in an ASCII file for repeated use.Region Reports can be saved in a tab-delimited format compatible withmany spreadsheet applications. Region Reports can also be printed.
RegCalc is a convenient tool to retrieve information easily and quickly
for different areas in the reservoir. For example, regions near an aquifer boundary can be defined in order to check pressure and saturations forthe boundary area throughout simulation.

Access RegCalc
Select the RegCalc option on the DESKTOP-VIP Output menu. The
RegCalc Region Definition window opens.
RegCalc User Interface
The RegCalc application consists of two main windows, the RegionDefinition Window and the Region Report window.
The Region Definition window loads the root grid and lets you definethe I, J, K regions and timesteps for calculation. Once defined, regions
can be saved to a Region Definition file.
Procedures are described on the following pages for selecting a VDB orRegion Definition file, defining the calculation regions, and creating
the Region Definition file, if you choose to save the information.
Once you click the Calculate button on the Region
Definition window, the Region Report window opens.
The Region Report window displays the calculations for the regions
